PES 2018 PlayStation & Xbox Discussion Thread

Only had time for a couple of games last night. Played 1 on professional & found it way too easy & never felt threatened once by the CPU & found Superstar too intense for 10 min matches. You need at least 15 mins but rather 20 to appreciate the game on this difficulty.

I think we are seeing high accuracy due to the space and time that you have on the ball to pick your spot as well as it just being easier than 17.

Probably not gonna play the demo that much, playing the AI always bore the hell out of me.

So, for full release.

1) Get a good Option File, sort that out FIRST.
2) Free training, try to get the hang of Advanced shooting.
3) Use my other PS account to go online and play Divisions with PA 1 to see if it is any idea to play that way or if it is too assisted (don't wanna ruin my stats...;))
4) Play Online Divisions until I'm bored out of my skull (lasted until early may with PES 2017), manual or PA 1 depends on result of 3.

How do u guys start your PES- life with a new game?

I feel like these first impressions are based on prejudice some people had based on Pes 2017 gameplay. People who liked Pes 2017 will like this demo, people who disliked it will not like this demo.

It's not a surprise the most negative posts are coming from the same people who used to be the most negative even before playing it.

It seems like some of you expected a totally different game, but it simply isn't. Right now i feel like it's a Pes 2017 evolution with improvements in every element of gameplay. Even long range shots are not so powerful as they were in beta and in Pes 2017, they have now a bit more swerve, they aren't straight lines to the goal, rocket style.

They still need more variation in trajectory, but they are definitely improved.

I'm happy with gameplay how it is right now, there are definite improvements, some issues still to fix like shots variation and lack of fouls, but i see a continous improvement year after year, slowly but surely we are getting there.

True.

Sadly it only takes two to make a thread look toxic.
Will those two exchanging the personal stuff ( And You know who You are ) just S.T.F.U. or we send You to ban camp for 30 days each.

That should solve a few problems.
if you mean me sorry mate won't pollute thread

just want everyone to have constructive debate without it getting personal or silly

We all loved pes when it was at its best and we want it to be at its best again - we are all on same side there is no agendas

Haven't seen this forum so negative after a demo for a long, long time.

This can only be a good thing IMO, we always start praising the game & end up complaining. Maybe this time it will be the opposite
Yes, very negative. Some people try so hard to summ up negative things that they get a headache because of it :D

Across all social media platforms, 3 or 4 years of the same issues ruining the game experience for a lot of us has taken it's toll on the community. Each one is entitled to their opinion but the bottom-line is that it's obvious that Konami don't really care about genuine feedback, and are making some catastrophic decisions that are gonna keep the game under the shadow of FIFA for the next 4 or 5 years.

We want them to challenge EA so that we can have some kind of rivalry going up which would improve BOTH products. But Judging from the demo we still can win games blindfolded and to be honest there isn't anything exciting in the game modes or gameplay aspects that makes it worth getting hyped up about.

I wouldn't call it negativity, It's being realistic and expecting better credibility from Konami and their mouthpieces.

Here's an example of the deep defense line and keeper stuck to their lines

Has anyone over or under hit crosses yet I feel like they are still too accurate I thought this was addressed.

Not true, negativity is something that spreads faster than positivity, besides like i already said most negative people have some sort of prejudice, they are more vocal and they feel like being negative is the only right thing to do because it's "constructive criticism" . The game has issues but that kind of doom and gloom is unwarranted considering they are improving and in general this demo feels better than Pes 2017 that in turn was way better than Pes 2016.

Just play it yourself.

I could tell you how much better AI is in offensive plays, how more varied it is, how more realistic it plays compared to Pes 2017 at Superstar level but people here will say i'm wrong, so as you can see positivity here is not accepted.

I could also tell you how many times cpu goalkeeper was more prone to come towards the attacker when on 1vs1 but people here already decided gks stay on their line for too long...

Feels like people talking good about this demo should be ashamed, quite ridicolous honestly.

Again, just play it yourself.

Here's my 2 cents for what it's worth.

After being really surprised how good offline felt in the beta I had good feelings about this demo.

Good points. Looks great. Crowds have some good chants. Neymar is fun to play with. Some amazing tattoos! (sarcasm)

Bad points. AI is unstoppable when attacking on Superstar whilst at the other end of the pitch defending feels out of your control. Player positioning seems wrong, poor responsiveness of defenders. In 2017 i never felt cheated out of a goal. Last night I felt cheated atleast once per game.

Attacking is too easy shooting no longer an art. Your players perform in spite of you and not because of you or any particular skill you're trying to perform, it feels a bit fake. Dribbling seems too easy. Defenders jogging alongside without making a tackle. Nobody standing in your way. Scoring identical goals in the same match is now a thing. In 2017 it always felt like an achievement to score a goal.

I still think online this game will be fun. The slower pace suits a human opponent. Against the AI its boring.

On this point, I've got to say, I can't help but agree. That's where my personal disappointment comes from.

I'd argue it is likely to be the best PES gameplay yet judging by the demo - but it feels a bit, I don't know, sad (?), that we're resigned to writing off the lack of development in certain areas that we seemingly all agree could improve (manual guys may have their perfect game, but PA1 pass accuracy is so high and standard shots provide little variety). Or perhaps we don't all agree, perhaps I'm being optimistic there...

It feels weird to me that we all kind of say "well it's a small team, they can't fix everything", when A) some of these things have been flagged by the community for literally years, and B) I just can't imagine us giving that same kind of forgiveness to any other developers outside of indie devs.

I'd have that sympathy if I bought some jam from the local farm shop and it was a bit naff, but as I get older, I struggle to feel that way about a £50 game (which it could even be argued that we have to piece together ourselves a little bit, either by option file fiddling or by playing with tactics because of the crazy things they produce, like the defending in that Barcelona video).

But.

Each one is entitled to their opinion but the bottom-line is that it's obvious that Konami don't really care about genuine feedback, and are making some catastrophic decisions that are gonna keep the game under the shadow of FIFA for the next 4 or 5 years.
This is a lot of hyperbole. As I said yesterday, Adam is not the developers, Adam represents the developers. He is dedicated to the product. The feedback we see isn't the entirety of the feedback they get, and what the developers decide to do, for one reason or another, is up to them.

It is a very slow evolution and that's that, unfortunately. I can moan (like I just have) that I find it hard to play something I've paid £50 for with the attitude of "it's not their fault that X Y and Z remains unchanged". But we know how this works by now. We have the demo, and we know the facts before we buy the game.

If I go and buy it, almost to enable me (to moan about it on here), that seems... Mental. To get angry about it, too. Nobody is conning us here.

As for FIFA, FIFA doesn't stop PES being great. It stops PES having licenses. There is no need for it to enter the discussion.

We want them to challenge EA so that we can have some kind of rivalry going up which would improve BOTH products.
That's what I'd like to see, and why I share constructive criticism, hopefully in a way that encourages debate. At this moment in time, I'm not an active member because I love PES as it is now, but because of how fantastic so much of it is, and how great it will be when the development "catches up" to the community's feedback. I love the series and that's why I'm still here - waiting for the day when, to my absolute shock (and it will be), PA1 is a lot less assisted, rockets are a rarity, and fouls are back in the game (when tactics result in midfielders having to challenge midfielders - as @Matt10 has already discussed).

If that happens, I'll be more delighted than a 30-something should be (it's only a game, after all). If it doesn't, there are still the really good bits, and I'll continue to hope.

I'll always be a PES fan and I hope the forum can distinguish genuine critical discussion from trolling - because I think extinguishing criticism would be a mistake (though when it becomes a broken record, and people are challenging others' enjoyment of the game, then it has to go, because what gives anybody the right to tell someone they shouldn't be having fun - what kind of person even wants to do that).

First three for me.
Liverpool - Dortmund: Forgot to up the difficulty, they still beat me 0-1. Hacked one of their dudes in the box last minute and Mignolet saved the penalty. Overall a fun game.
Dortmund - Inter. Top player, beaten 0-2. fun match, but I now feel the speed has been increased since the beta.
Liverpool - Barcelona: Last minute goal from Mané and a 1 - 0 win for me, but still the worst game by far. Barca just felt like a team of robotic players, very fast, dribbling with ease, passing perfectly, it may not have won them the game but it was all very soulless.

I am going mad if the speed has not been increased since the beta.

I still have high hopes for this, but probably won't go near Barcelona for a while.

To me this demo, except pace, feels like the 17 demo
Then that demo became a full game that felt completely different.
I played the 18 demo around 20 + times yesterday,played the 17 demo a few times,and had 5 games on my 17 ML career.
Very confusing.

Add/remove scripting and the competitive nature of a game and it's a totally different game.
I for one are looking fw to the full release.
If it's a no go for me,which I doubt,I'll have no probs keep playing my 17 which i love.
I've retired my old Pes 5-6's both in thought and reality,no use to live in the past....

Do people would like a game where opposition don't make mistakes in defending so is more challenging?

I find a lot of the posting here odd compared to my own expectations. As I said on other posts, my understanding of where a football simulator should go is to create a context where "everything" that happens in football can be replicated realistically by stats, team tactics, *emotions*, and, of course, human input. And that means all the good and well done stuff but the bad or not refined technique, positioning, decision making, etc.

For instance, I have seen some people over Twitter complaining about CPU not pressuring the player on the ball in the final third. I find that fantastic as it happens also in real life and I've seen, in the matches that I played against the CPU, to not happen on different occasions/teams.

This would be called not good on PES:

(Look at that positioning!!! Where are the fundamentals!! :P)

I am not saying PES is perfect on this regard - I actually think that is good or bad is hard to judge from DEMO - but I do say I don't get some people reactions to things that I find great. The main reason I don't really enjoy the other game, besides their artificial universe where Earth physics is boring, is that players and teams are unidimensional so they can be *perfect* and stuff like that which may the game *seem* a simulation but is not. The fact that in PES tams and players make mistakes is great/real simulation IMO.

Finally, I would like to ask something to the community so I understand some reactions better:

- Do we want a Football video game that is FUN, challenging, and resembles football or do we want a football video game that simulates football and that is fun and challenging because of that?

Really like your postings, and how you break it down.
Good job pal

I find it so different from PES2017. The ball is so loose, the speed is tone down. I am happy so far. I am adjusting to the gameplay. I love the fact we can edit the contrast and brightness, this is huge for me.
I took a quick look in my DVR since I have a ton of 17 and 18 clips there, kinda easy to sort which are 18 or 17 clips
Huge difference

Had a good few games last night and am about to power the game up again for a blast now. Initial impressions:

1. Agree that there are way too many flicks and perfect back heels. All players seem to be able to produce these, whereas the joy of the ps2 days was that only the likes of zidane and nedved were capable of such feats.

2. Not enough fouls. I have been fouled 2 to 3 times every match but usually as a result of a physical confrontation rather than a badly timed tackle.

3. Love the fact the referees are getting decisions wrong. Especially on corners and free kicks when there is a battle in the box. My strikers have been adjudged to have fouled defenders when replays show they did nothing wrong.

4. Love the way that players can burst away. This is something that's been lacking in previous years.

5. Controversial as it will sound to many, but I do think they've improved shooting. I've blazed many a shot wide and over the bar. However I agree that more work is needed in this area as it feels you can still score that guaranteed goal. Plus I've hit a few screamers from outside the box which needs to be toned down. Very rarely could you do that in the glory days of pes5 and 6.

6. Goalkeepers improved again. But still some weird saves from long shots. It's the one when they catch the ball diving diagonally forward.

7. Pass assist 1 should be toned down. Hell I'd get rid of the options like the golden days and say this is the game like it or lump it.

8. Graphics much improved even on my basic tv.

Right... off to play again. Will feedback again later. Enjoying reading everyone's thoughts.

Don't like it so far. Can't feel the magic of beta, i don't know why. Positioning is bad, shooting better but not to where i want it, passing mediocre.
I give it a try. Maybe i have to adjust, but i'm not enjoying it atm.

You do know goalkeepers should be diving forward?

The AI just had a player sent off for a disgusting late tackle. Mane the guilty party. Not seen that on pes for many a year... hope to see more of he same.

As for FIFA, FIFA doesn't stop PES being great. It stops PES having licenses. There is no need for it to enter the discussion.

If anything, it forces Konami to work harder and push harder towards a better PES. If PES had all the licenses they would probably lean on that and relax too much. The way it's happening with EA.
But Konami/PES TEAM knows that in order to give EA/FIFA anything but Mayweather-McGregor level kind of fight, they need to have an exquisite gameplay. With flaws and all but exquisite.

L1+:triangle: is veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery f***ing over power
game has very nice visual ... but awwwwwwful gameplay !
defending side almost doesn't exist !
changing cursor is awful ... L1+:triangle: ??? wtf :BRICK: it was ok on 2017 !!
