PES 2018 PlayStation & Xbox Discussion Thread

Hey guys started a podcast with a mate of mine called
The Contextual Podcast mainly based around gaming and especially Pes as you can see from the name.

First one had a few sound issues as my mate was in vegas but hope you get the idea. No expert so go easy.
Anybody want to send us some questions please do.

Thanks my fellow Pes and gaming friends.

I think you hit the real issue. I asked myself why is that and i think the main reasons are:
1) player individuality has gone
2) everything feels light, lifeless
3) defending has become shit

In old pes players had weight, ball physics was great, midfields battle were crucial, defending was tough but skill based, crossing was a beauty in action (especially pes3-5).

The game feels flat all around. in certain stadium certain conditions certain teams u can still have a good game here and there, but the flatness has killed this series. Pes 2014 and in a way pes 2011 were a step in the old good direction but after seabass was fired it all went "pes6" way, very arcadish, dull, monotonous.
i think you nailed it.

Chances are more frequent, so scoring is more frequent because of the reasons I listed, offering more freedom to the user and not giving much thought process to the AI itself and how to counteract that all goes in the favour of the user.

When I can put any midfield player and have up to 10 long shots allowed on goal per game with a very high percentage of a goal something is wrong for me.
yep, to easy to get shoots on goal and on target. Problem solver is loser first touch and less space.

What do you think about that?-
Don't you think Ball Winning is too low? More often than not, Messi will win the ball if it's a 50-50 situation. And more often than not, he will keep the ball in physical battles.

Wait for the final game for the stats.

But why should be his ball winning so high? Hes a striker in the first place.

I just finished epsisode 12. Never had Christmas wishes in July. It's weird! :SS
Funny though, I'm currently getting my body in shape to live a healthier life like never before in my life. Whole thing: sport, nutrition, lifestyle. :APPLAUD:

Haha made me laugh. It's my old fitness podcast. Still train but got a bit bored maybe a Pes fitness podcast. Cheers

No this isn't being taken personally and you are entitled to your view too. I was not for 1 minute suggesting that me and these "Old School Die Hards" are gods who's opinions have to be listened to and accept.. not at all. I was merely stating that I know of a fair number of PES players who weren't satisfied with the Shooting in particular on PES 2017 and even previous PES's from about PES 2014 onwards.

I have seen more footage that suggests we could have other more pressing issues than the shooting...

i don't like the pace on this vid, its too fast and it feels like pes 2017,5......i don t like what i see at all in this vid, too fast gameplay, no closing down , yes i agree with him..

hi, I am a true fan of pes all my life, I can simply die for this game to survive, but coming from pes3,to 2018 is a long way coming, and after seeing so many footage of#pes2018, (I recently range out of HDD space just to download all the videos out there) and after I have analysed all, I have seen massive improvements and some few niggles and some that is yet to be looked at since 2014..... just recently,I saw a video of WE9LE Liverpool vs Man utd, in that video, I saw how beautiful PES was back then, the AI, the refs, positioning, defense/attack realism, the pass assistance level, all comes together to make a beautiful game back then, now If we can make the dev team see these type of vids, to compare what they're doing with what they did to see if they're going the right way they'll surely push for that level of realistic game again, and here are the niggles
1: Player ID is lost in PK shootout, in Pes13, each PK taker has different style of taking PK, and after they score or Miss, we see their emotions in a cutscene but since 2014, it has been lost, even to the point of the PK winning celebration is very bad, in older versions, the last PK taker scores to win the shootout or Gk save to win is clearly seen in the celebration cutscene, eg if I score my winning PK with Jordi alba, in previous versions, you clearly see Jordi Alba running towards his team members to celebrate, but since 2014, you see ter stegen instead of Jordi alba running towards his teammates to celebrate. Celebration cutscene in general needs overhauling.... It's just unrealistic .... That needs to change.. I suggest a FIFA 16 style of PK celebration where we can control our player to anywhere in the pitch
2: positioning @Matt10 has spoken on this before but I refused to believe but after rigorous analysis, it became clear, i know how hard it is for the development team to get things up and running, but the fans are always here to help... the player positioning when defending needs attention, only 7 players fall back to defend, the 3 attacking players stay in the opponent's half and don't fall back, (I confirmed this after watching two vids on superstar AI). This leaves too much space in midfield, hence the midfield battle is lost, and leaves too much room for attacking team to score easily cos they got enough space, and it translates to counter attacking, since three players don't fall back, at least 7 players from the attacking team are in opponents half, there's a hole in the middle, and the defending team just stole the ball, no midfield battle, a straight pass to a winger and we are left with a 50-50 3v3 situation, the defending turned attacking team now can easily score a goal, i know playing a 0-0 draw all the time is frausting but its part of the realism,in football or in older versions say from pes3to5, these situations are rare, now matt10 attached vids of older PES versions on positioning and its clear, the only time positioning in PES 2018 is correct is during coner kicks or free kicks, then you see the defending team positioning properly.. this was the issue with pes2016. As Matt10 said, the attacking players needs to drop more deeper in their own half to close spaces not closed by the rest, that will allow for more tightness in defense and rectify the counter attacking issue above.. the dev team can just have a look at it for consideration......
3: fouls and reffs needs attention, I know its been looked at so that's a good sign, I watched a video 21 minutes long, Dortmund vs atletico Madrid, the ref gives card to the Dortmund player for any reckless challenge but refuses to give atletco player cards for trying tokill players (i beleive that to be a bug or something ) in my mind, I would have given the atletico guy 5 red cards for what he wasdoing, and it seemed the guy noticed the ref'snonchalance towards his aggression, he took advantage of the ref and started spamming slide tackles so much that the injured three Dortmund players which one was unable to continue / (reus)... so pls take your time to study what this feedback is all about.. I believe together, we canmake a great game. thanks and the GK, they need to rush out always to make 1v1 saves like 2013 did, AI still needs to be tougher though, so let's all join hands together to message @officialpes, you can message Adam bhatti or asim tanvir but be careful the kind of message you send for its their personal account no related to work, as for the aforementioned video just go to YouTube and search for WE9LE Gameplay | Liverpool vs Manchester United 2016/2017 Season Patch.... thanks and you can follow me on twitter @chrisdanielsnz2 I hope the real PES fans take action
After re-reviewing the positioning errors, it became clear that the error is from the formation itself, since only attackers don't fall back and u use a 4-3-3 formation, your 3 attackers don't fall back, but if you're using a 4-5-1 then only your 1 striker don't fall back ( that's the case with what Daniel Henry played) I still saw positional problems of pes 2016 in pes 2018 and wide open spaces even on superstar..... They only need to fix it and make AI more difficult in a REALISTIC FEEL

This is a video of advanced instructions off, as unfortunately as per what Daniel Henry said concerning position of the players, in this video, only 7players fall back, for Brazil team ( guy with advanced instructions off) this further confirms what I said about the positioning being affected by the formations...

Chris Daniels eh ..a new guy? And you're concerned about positioning. . . . .hmmmmm. . . .interesting.. .lol.

"Passing feels less assisted this year"

Oh really ? I dont see any error, any build up or football knolwedge requirement to get so easily on attack on this video below. And bear in mind this is played in superstar level.

The combo "quick first time passes + 1-2 button held down" still is very effective and theres almost no error.

Guys who do that are so ignorant of what real football is that they even do that with defenders. You can see even Pique sprinting to attack lol.

Even CPU.AI does this constant 1-2.forwards in tottally out context situation.

This for me kills any pretension of realism. Something needs to be done with the 1-2 to stop this madness and I dont understand how this is not TOP priority around PES dedicated forums.

From the video:
"The crossing seems to be fixed. In terms of cross spamming. Like Pes 17, you get the ball, play down the line, put the cross in, get the header, get the goal."

Yeah, that's why you should play on GADDEM MANUAL PASSING

Chances are more frequent, so scoring is more frequent because of the reasons I listed, offering more freedom to the user and not giving much thought process to the AI itself and how to counteract that all goes in the favour of the user. When I can put any midfield player and have up to 10 long shots allowed on goal per game with a very high percentage of a goal something is wrong for me.

Well, it depends.

I got fed up today with the huge midfield space in some matches in my league. So I restarted the league, but first edited reasonable tactics for all teams in the league (frontline pressure, solid defensive formation when out of possession).

First match, cup away against Figueirense, me controlling Palmeiras. Full manual, normal speed, 20 minutes, top player.

End result 0-1, shots 5(3)-2(1). Basically 20 minutes of midfield agony, partially because of CPU momentum advantage, which was pretty obvious.

So for me, not all matches are shots galore, open space, end to end. But it varies, and it varies too much. And momentum plays too big a role.

guys my game is crashing on windows 10, sorry wrong thread, but i wanted to play winning eleven 9 LE, as soon as i start a match, game crashes.

Would like to point out also the videos so far in exhibition mode (and in full game) are far easier than starting a Master League on the same level.

At the same time even on exhibition on the PS2 era games it was so difficult to create chances at first and felt like a real achievement, so far on the 2018 videos there is chances all over, long range goals being blasted in, despite the pace being slower it actually looks faster because of the same way the game is built for you to play.

If you run down the wing then stop and pass the ball to an unmarked man 5 yards away, then forward, its constantly forward, the AI is constantly backing off begging you to score 'amazing' goals.

The problem I have with this game, after growing up playing since the SNES days is the rewarding feeling when shooting and scoring not being there anymore.

Its down to a number of factors:

Space being wide open now on the pitch
More movement angles available for the player giving more chance of easily walking around an opponent for a clear shot
No individuality in players now when shooting accuracy, always forcing keeper into a diving save
Body positioning, correct foot, angle no longer factored in
Goalkeeper position, reacting to danger poor

Basically just the feeling that ive not earned a goal which for me has been missing for years, the game is giving me a goal as a way to try entertain, all the talk of Advanced, Manual, Basic means nothing when the end result is just a feeling of meh.

We play these games hours on end and that one more game feeling is just lost now, even FIFA for me now gives me greater satisfaction in scoring goals with contextual animations than PES does, theres no surprises any more, I don't feel the game is going to open up and give me more the more I play it.

For me I need that back or else ill just stop playing again after 3 weeks.

It just dawned on me the other day that I've never been relegated in a football game before which is kinda sad when you think about it. I'd love to play as a small team in debt and have to constantly sell my best players every season just to survive and balance the books plus feeling fearful of going to big clubs like Arsenal or ManU where I'm pleased if I lose 3-0 instead of getting completely thrashed 6 nil. In current Pes the bigger teams are actually much easier to play against than smaller teams even with default ML players, which is incredibly flawed gameplay wise.

Even if it's a separate mode just for long time PES players like me that would love to be challenged by a football game for once with...

- Incredibly strict budget where failure to meet it means game over.

- Terrible starting players and difficult transfer windows where you can loose your top scorer to lower than player value bids because other teams know your badly in debt and can take advantage of your desperation and no easy 77 rated free transfers.

- It should take 5 or 6 seasons of struggle before you feel like you can start to somewhat compete with decent teams.

- Evil enemy A.I. that forces you to park the bus because your so desperate for a point against the bigger teams to avoid relegation, maybe also a fear meter where your players are scared to go the top teams home stadium so they control slower & heavier because of the fear effect so they capitulate somewhat before they've even stepped on the pitch.

- Only Autosaving/No save scumming

Obviously this wouldn't be a mode for everyone but I'm sick of winning the Championship/Premier/Champions League in the 1st three seasons every time I play ML as it makes me want to stop playing as there's no struggle or sense of achievement anymore, and I only buy youth players so god knows how easy the game currently is with Messi, Ronaldo etc in your team.

Fear meter? yeh . .a bit like McGregors opponents before a punch is thrown. . . . I find if you play with a lower club on Superstar and probably manual you won't progress until maybe 4 seasons and usually the Ai will do it's best to relegate you in your first season in the Top league and usually does.
