PES 2018 PlayStation & Xbox Discussion Thread

NBA2k18 allows you to create your own team, slider set,arena design, logos and share everything online!

You can also customize leagues,seasons ,competition and trade rules.

Konami just need to add something like this and let us cater to our own needs and focus on their money grabbing arcade for little kids.

Remember Jenkys gameplay tool ?

The game could be twice as good in most areas, but* if the AI can still trip you up with impunity**, string 20 psychic first-time passes together with not even a hint of deviation from perfection, and all shots are thunderbolts - then what the hell will all of the improvements matter?

What's the point in buying new front tyres for your car when it's the back tyres that are flat? (Yes, I know we're talking about PES, not Gran Turismo...)

(That's not to mention the ML stuff that could potentially spoil it for me, such as 40-year-old legends joining my "youth" team.)

I don't want to play the game and think: "Oh wow, the dribbling is amazing, it's so natural This is a- er, did that AI player just throw my player onto the floor? I've not seen them give away a free kick yet - er, hang on, are they ever going to let me have the ball back now? This is exactly what was happening last year. I was sick of it then and I'm sick of it now. I'm absolutely gutted, how do I enjoy the new stuff now."

*The "but" IS JUST A "BUT" - I've not played the game! BUT rather than "shutting up" until the game is released, surely we should at least TRY to get this fear through to the devs. Even if none of it applies to 2018. All they can say is "we've worked on that so stop worrying you big sillyheads"... Right?

**I've been looking out for this in the videos and I've seen absolutely tons of terrible tackles ignored by the referee. Now that they've introduced this barge/shove thing, I fear it's going to be an even bigger problem. See below...

Chris I certainly wasn't talking about you. .. ..in fact I admire your honesty and openness when you criticise any game and you're reasonable about it . ..I'm talking about some people who feel superior and keep throwing old Pes comparisons up with the new game, especially when new vids come out which show where obvious improvements have been made.
 
I think that a lot of people are expecting to see new animations and shots every time they play the game . ...no matter how many animations are put in you will eventually see them all. ..every game becomes stale, it's inevitable.

Also because we all play this game a fair amount!

The fact that we're already talking about the game on a forum shows that we all have more than a casual interest in the game, we'll play it more than the typical "pick up and play" person that might notice a new animation or two every time they play it for a few hours a week.
 
To be honest i really don't know which game to pick anymore if any.
I was a die hard pes fan all the way back to the 1st one in the time where fifa gameplay was so poor that you'd take the no liscense thing for granted.

After PES6 the downfall began, Fifa got better but still not good enough for me. So i continued to play pes5 and 6, and patched the hell out of them on pc.

I bought Fifa 15, 16 and 17, as i still could not get the old pes feeling from the most recent pes games.

I will admit : i do not like playing with unlicensed teams. For me it takes away some of the immersion.
That being said : fifa 17 looks gorgeous, but is somehow lacking for me as well. It's great that they have all the stadiums and atmosphere etc.. but it still feels off. Midfield is so crowded, very little time on the ball (and my reactions are VERY slow) and somehow the pitch feels much smaller than in PES.
I tried pes 17 (the free one with limited options) but the shooting just feels off to me. As lots of ppl mentioned : too many rockets going in the top corner, and just a lack of variety (and no, i do not want to play manual or do advanced shooting)

I'm going to play the demo of both game and see what happens. It might just be a year without any football game.
From what i can tell PES is on the right track, and i really hope 18 does it for me. Let's wait and see.
 
I like the tactical tackle in FiFA games. That is possible on PES by double tapping the tackle button but it becomes cumbersome. It's just my preferrence.

just decrease the marking to 40 and push the width out and fifa has space in midfield
 
The problem is that the perfect time to let Konami know what must be changed for next version is probably around November - BUT most of us who want a deeper game and aren't kids anymore (we have families, jobs, etc, so it's not 100% PES) are still getting used to the lastest release by that time of year.

I think Konami starts to brain-storm around the game and lay down the main areas to be improved while we are all too busy loving the new game they just put out.

For example, I started to dislike a few things from PES 2017 right from the first matches, but I loved everything else. And the things I was loving were far too many in comparison with the things I disliked. Specially compared to PES 2016 which I played VERY LITTLE because I really thought it was lacking tons of things (which were then improved for 2017, most of them).

The first month of the game goes by very quickly because you have to wait for a good option file with the right name for the teams, and the kits and everything. So you don't want to start a new Master League or whatever before that. So that's off the table. I usually start playing exhibition matches back and forth until a good Patch comes out. So that's probably around November - December (let's hope Konami don't make it hard on us regarding file encryption and types/formats).
When a decent patch finally comes out, you start the Master League. And probably another month pass you by very quickly because you're getting used to the new stuff, and excited about winning your first games and thinking about which players could make your team better for the next transfer market. So we're now in January already. And that's probably when you start to think "hmmm too bad they didn't improve THIS because it would have made the whole difference. The rest is almost perfect". But you keep playing. And a few more weeks go by and you add to that first thought "Well, THIS also bothers me, but otherwise it's a GREAT game". And so on... until you have a list of 4 or 5 small things that could potentially make this the undisputed ultimate football game ever. But it isn't....

But you keep playing it at the same time you complain about it (a little more everyday). And it's too late already. Konami have already lay the groundwork for the next PES and so the "wait until you play it" or "people who actually played it don't think like you" cycle starts.

So let's bare this in mind- And let's start the right campaign before Christmas and New Year's Eve.

More Fouls? Sliders? New Defensive-related Stats? Whatever. Let's do that from November and be constant about it. Not just once but every week. We can do that as a community at the same time we play PES 2018 and love it until we don't love it no more. No need to stop playing PES 2018 or start hating on it to do this.
 
Lots of excellent posts here. High quality discussions, really.

It is expected that gamers have different preferences. It is also quite natural for them to try to influence the game developers. I don't see the need to argue about these.

If KONAMI have announced that they want to promote open football, for me it's a bummer. I think I will still give 2018 a try and see how editing tactics can improve the gameplay. If I don't like the end result, and see no change in their direction in 2019, then I think I am no longer a part of the segment they are targeting.

Interesting post. I think PES 6 was the only old PES I bought at launch - the rest I bought months after release.

And I'm quite sure this used to be the norm. Only in the past two? gens have people been hot on buying games on release, which does tend to spoil things somewhat, especially with PES because it's always such a work-in-progress title that benefits from the good work of the community which, as you say, only shows after a month or two.

Remember when we used to get news drip-fed through magazines? It's now all constant videos and previews which we inevitably scrutinise to high heaven making ourselves glum in the process.

Not sure what my point is exactly because a lot of the discussion is bang on point. Perhaps just nostalgia.

Gaming has become an odd business. Once for enthusiasts willing to give time and space to anything where people would often find under-looked gems months after release, it's now become an expectation-crazy zone where business models are fixated with Day 1.

Even more so if you buy the game later on the year. By the time you start noticing and then getting tired of key factors of the game it's even more late to change anything (for the next version) than for the ones who bought it on day one, or during the first month.

Oh, fair enough if you meant in terms of giving feedback. I missed your point.
 
We'll just have to make sure they don't screw up the good things they've achieved in order to improve the things we want.

For example: In order to have more fouls and free-kicks, they shouldn't screw up the feeling of freedom, or players individuality, or pace. They most definetely shouldn't add the catch-up bug. They just need to make the AI time tackles differently and more randomly perhaps.

What I read/heard FROM Adam Bhatti himself and other people who played the game is that there is more sense of freedom. And they all pointed it as a GREAT thing.
But no one (as far as I know) said they wanted the game to flow without fouls.

I was referring to the issue of open midfield etc. But I think I am now lowering the quality of the excellent discussion here - not being able to read all posts in detail - so I will shut up for the time being. :))

On the contrary, I've pre-ordered PES two weeks ago and I'm determined it will be the best football game I've ever played.

Adam confirmed on Twitter the lack of fouls isn't a design choice. He detailed somewhat how it impact lots of different areas and confirmed tehy're still trying to trike a balance. Said it's been fed back a lot.

Seriously, Im already thinking about not getting this game anyomore. Its a joke that till this day we have a "football" game that doesnt respect the basic rules of the sport. Fuck you Konami! I had enough of this.

Didn't Adam or Asim literally say that last year or the year before? Something about fouls hinder the flow of the game.

Let's wait for the online beta/demo then give our final verdict.

Real-life foul numbers would make for a stop-start experience.” that is part of the games radar interview..plus side he's being honest the other side is lack of fouls is a decision to prevent stop start..never was an issue in older pes days if anything it added to the ML fun..if your free kick taker was injured it was an issue
