PES 2018 PlayStation & Xbox Discussion Thread

After having watched the 4K IGN gameplay video, the leap forward in the animation system is clear. From the micro-touches to the way the players now shift their body weight upon changing direction—all the new animations are a joy to watch. I'm really impressed! :)

Not sure. But don't worry smaller technical players such as Iniesta can shield really well and use their quickness to shield and turn defenders

How about the ball physics? How does it move and look from all the games you played. From what I saw so far it looks really good. Hopefully it's consistent.

This is just a stupid thing, but we will get the Pogba celebration this year? The dab thing xD

Chris Davies--CPU A.I. on games we played today misplaced passes. Also ripped us new assholes. A.I. was really good and varied but such a small sample size sorry man.

Thanks so much Bryan. Other than positioning that was my only major gameplay hope. 50% hit rate ain't bad when it comes to Konami...

The more I take shots the more I do notice difference in shooting from last year it is pretty good. Problem is getting shots off is fucking hard lol. I'd like to see more shooting animations but the ones they got are done well. Better than 2017 hands down. Jose actually thinks the shooting is really fuckin good. He's used to FIFA's shooting variety and animations so take that as big compliment. Some shots are still too powerful looking but you really have to load up on power bar to see those.

B-Man, what about AI shooting, noticed any variation?
(The main problem for me for 3 years is, AI shoot nearly every time to low corners, didn't see any over the bar shots, really bad shots etc.)

If somebody miss it :

4k 60 fps gameplay video

Best video I´ve seen so far!
Have to play this myself...the assisted passing is too direct to the player´s feet imo.
That put me off in previous releases already, so I can´t wait to play this on manual.
But what I see here is enough for me to know that I´m gonna like playing it.

Good thing to see are the GK throw-ins. They been all high when pressing the button long and not low like in PES 2017.
Hated that so much.
Also nice to see is a curled corner kick at 4ish somewhere.
Been a bit scared about that cause in PEs 2017 they looked nice and you couldn´t perform them with all players.
You had that guideline and it didn´t bend that much on all players.
Now that they took it out, I hope that individuality is gonna stay in - not a big deal of course.

Btw, that pass from Griezmann at 7:01. I have seen them in PEs 2017 also very often but ONLY with passing assistance on.
Are these possible on manual passing? Never made it...can anyone tell?

And what´s with that one player kick off? Never seen that in a football match until now.

Usain....well I do play myclub too. I still think it´s strange, it´s like bringing back Van der Mirch. But as long as he won´t be on the cover, I don´t care much even I really think it´s a strange move.

Here's my gameplay analysis for PES 2018, E3 version of course:

I hope it comes across as being genuine and geared for improving the positioning. Tactics and formations should not have that much of an impact to the point it exposes poor coding. I would hope this is constructive, and it helps illustrate the point of how important, and simple, these changes can be.

Great video Matt, completely agree with the points you made especially the analysis starting at 6 minutes. This is a complete philosophy change required so I can't see anything different from what you've been saying for years in PES18...

I don't know about anyone else, but I will tweet Asim, Adam and Official PES with this video, they need to see it and at least take it into account, if Matt is wrong then tell us why.

I think Matt's point is mute. Pes 2016, 17 have ways to edit the formation and hence interaction of players in the fwd, mid and back line. I love that Pes gives this flexibility.

But if the default tactics of teams allow this to happen (eg. a gegenpress and deep defensive line), then you will have to go through all these CPU controlled teams and change their tactics. no thanks

I do that anyway. It seems Konami dont have the time/budget to go through all that, also team formations/tactics can change by the time the game is released.

ARGH, I really want to watch your vid @Matt10 but i can't expose myself to patterns i won't notice!

For sure the game looks too end to end but i can deal with that, i'll slow it down myself when i'm in posession, but i can't see the patterns becuase i'll notice it CONSTANTLY and not be able to get past it.

On a side note, the more i watch the videos, the more i notice the changes to ball physics. it might not be quite as pronounced as i'd like but there's certainly an improvment. I also noticed in one video a couple of far less powerful shots from certain players.

The biggest issue for me right now is the lack of first touch error. I've barely seen anyone under pressure because their player has had a heavy touch.

We need your support! Thanks for the response!

Look, I get it, man. For years I thought the same. "Oh, no worries, give me an editor and I'll fix every team". Let's face it, that's most likely going to happen regardless. My intent here is to not make it about me. It's for the good of the game. I already know what I will personally do, but this is about those who can't control that, or are not able to see those exploits.

Great video as always

I agree I feel my expectations are somewhat normalized (they were a bit higher on the first trailer). After watching gameplay it does look like a more refined '17 (which I enjoyed). Like many people here have said, I do wish it wasn't so end to end.
One thing I won't be able to see until the full game... and I dont know if B-Man would still be able to talk to the lead dev... the frickin' SCRIPTING in ML. That, and Mertesacker being able to chase down Ronaldo.

Thanks for all the impressions from B-Man, looking forward to this game

Scripting use to be a thing in FIFA because the AI was bad. Why on earth did PES copy it since PES 6 I have no idea. And now with the introduction with team spirit, it's even worse. Honestly, there should be a difficulty after Superstar that enables cheating and the rest of the difficulty should have cheating/handicap off.

Edmundo, we've had these same issues for years now, and from the videos we've watched it looks like they haven't changed. These gaps and awful positioning have been plaguing this game for years now and it's only natural that we're sick of it. Are you seriously telling me you've never seen your defenders part like the red sea for no reason even after having given them specific instructions in the tactics what to do? Are we supposed to just watch, wait and hope again for nth year? You seriously think many of us haven't been editing for many hours every year trying to perfect the game to our sim-tastes? Do you really think we can't get it right because we're all.... stupid? No. We've spent a ton of hours and there still is a major issue that we can't fix in edit mode. It is something in the code that needs to be changed. I mean there's just so much we can do until we hit that code-wall. They need to be alerted of this. Now if you have a different game than we do, lucky you!

Like I said before, an extra option added to the game cannot hurt. The "Shifting to attack" for example that was in PES 2014 was in there and I'm taking a guess here that you had no issues with that game back then. So why would it now? Shouldn't you be happy we get more tools to perfect the game? If we didn't have these tools in the first place, then how exactly are you having "ways to edit the formation"? Because you were given the tools we have now! What would you have done without them? Nothing. All we're asking here are more of these editing tools that hurt no one. In fact just one of them that we already had before we'd like to see returned. No harm there. Just don't use it man. Stick to whatever you use now and ignore that extra option.

Just let it be. Enjoy the superior code you always receive and let us peasants with the less superior version ask for some fixes.
