PES 2018 PlayStation & Xbox Discussion Thread

No offence , but ofc the votes will show more support for Matt10s claims, there are more fifa fans/players afterall.

Matt10 made claims to improve Pes 2017 that were simply not an issue for me and could be rectified by improving as a player.

In short, Konami's japense developers are the ones who know what they are doing. It's great that Matt10 offers his insights (that will be based on his playstyle and understanding of futebol), but trying to say they are universal to eveyone's gameplay experience is clearly incorrect.

What on earth does individual skill have to do with the issues at hand? He could literally be the greatest Pro Evo player in the world and it wouldn't affect the AI's behavior. They're two entirely separate things.

Well, clearly they don't as evidenced by their track record over the past decade. I wasn't aware I was in an alternate universe where PES is a world class game again. Strange.

The guys at pes united have been quite past few days, cos from what Bryan said he was gonna play the AI, haven't heard since and am not confident that they were impressed with what they were looking for, otherwise they'd be on twitter hard.

The AI REACTS to the player, they are not seperate they are intertwined. For example, the AI in this case will be set to the teams playstyle (ie. in Pes 2017 you can notice how different teams play differently) and will react to what the human player is doing.

Strange that you dont see that Pes is.

Is it possible to have our CF,SS,LWF,RWF support defence down further rather than standing near halfway line whatever our opponent formation, strategy are ?
This is one reason that make big hole spaces, right ?

It is in my experience in 2017 makes it easier to do counter attack, especially if you have faster winger. That's why we can easily see end to end football. It is fun to some extent but repetitive actions bore me.

They're not universal to everyone. The point here is to have that option back. It's just an option that won't harm you. You can always ignore it and continue playing the game as you like. In fact it is much easier for you to not notice and ignore it than us having to go into every team to change it. It helps us (the sim-head ones) to have that option at least and not be forced to play end to end games all the time.

You can already edit formations and positions to achieve the same thing. ie. You can have 3 different formations/ player positions ready to employ with a single button push.

On the contrary, the limited matches vs A.I. me and Nestor played today I don't think either of us won haha. The stuff you see on streams people playing on regular btw. I walked in to NES losing 3-0. I watched Neymar skin him in the box with 3 moves in a row which was cool. Atletico Madrid is officially my kryptonite. I didn't be a them once vs A.I. or vs Human controlling them. They are perfectly set up for how I play. The A.I. we played was really good and looked natural doing it. Was very varied. Saw multiple crosses, individual dribbles and great passes. Defensively the issues Matt find on def. positioning seem to happen vs Human opponent I think CPU is better about it. But one thing I agree is when players are set up as wingers they don" t track back as Matt said unless ball is super deep in final third. I will feed the back to Adam and Asim.

I spoke with the lead Japanese developer for a half hour today. Got all our points across boys!!! His translator helped me. I talked about Individuality from PS2 days as well as tactics. I told him how they changed pressing to be risk/reward now and he was so happy he said I was the first person to tell him that and that was one of the things he worked on the most the past few months so we hit it off well. Once I buttered his broad I got into some suggestions. He said they really worked on individuality for CPU and they were worked super hard on the A.I. in general. The previous build he had he felt the defenders were too brilliant so had to ease up.

We talked about PS2 tactics. He seems to prefer the advanced instructions so may be tougher to get PES2011 system or PS2 system back :(

A couple nuggets. There was a moment in my match against him where I came in one v one with the keeper on a 45 degree angle and the keeper didn't go down like he did when you got one v one more centrally. He saw it, I told him that needed to be fixed he agreed so that was a big plus to show him that. Otherwise guys, keepers are really good aside from the floaty jump they sometimes do on weaker shots. I even told him about football kingdom nets lol

So with the auto shielding check this out. Heres a cool example about the stats, a player like Gabriel Jesus vs Diego Godin, If Jesus is shielding ball vs Godin depending on positioning double tap X and Godin will stick his foot between Jesus' legs and tapped the ball away where as when Godin is shielding the ball vs Jesus, if you double tap X with Jesus he will try to reach in and tap the ball but Godin's physicality will hold him off and animations for it look

really good. The sense of urgency in defending and cutting off passing lanes and the physicality of strikers holding off a defender waiting for an incoming pass looks gorgeous and is done really well. Fuck Atletico Madrid

They really fixed passing individuality. With lower pass stats from say defenders there lofted passes and through balls will be floaty and also you have to power up more for more power compared to a player like Iniesta where you can put low power and have good pace and accuracy. So playing out of the back under pressure is fucking dangerous. So a player like Pique it will take him a split second longer to power up more for a harder pass and get his long ass legs going in a passing animation (by no means a delay btw responsiveness is spot on) so under pressure there is more a chance you could get the ball taken off you. If you don't power up hard enough you will hit a softer pass in that direction with a greater chance of change of possession.

Chris Davies--CPU A.I. on games we played today misplaced passes. Also ripped us new assholes. A.I. was really good and varied but such a small sample size sorry man.

The more I take shots the more I do notice difference in shooting from last year it is pretty good. Problem is getting shots off is fucking hard lol. I'd like to see more shooting animations but the ones they got are done well. Better than 2017 hands down. Jose actually thinks the shooting is really fuckin good. He's used to FIFA's shooting variety and animations so take that as big compliment. Some shots are still too powerful looking but you really have to load up on power bar to see those.

This E3 demo really was something special. If they fuck it up change stuff and make it more assisted and you guys dont get to play what we played I'd feel gutted for you guys.

I'm stuck at the airport for next 3 hrs any questions post them i'll be hanging around

Interesting. How accurate are CPU with passes? Can every player easily pass the ball about? The problem with PES 2017 where teams like Sunderland/Crystal Palace can easily get 95% passing accuracy and almost no mispasses. Also does the CPU closedown/pressure the player on the defensive third instead of back-tracking all the way into the box?

Small sample size bro. So hard to say but they did misplace passes into space or pass too far ahead or behind intended target. I think they got rid of the pass accuracy stats you see at halftime and end of match I don't remember seeing them. But like I said small sample size.

CPU closes down really well in what we played. Ask Nestor lol

Did you see any new meaningful stats for players

Brian - cheers for the feedback. Sounds like you had a good time there. Were you playing on PS4?
I hope the visuals look sharper on Xbox this year as I still felt like they have been too fuzzy/low res, even on more zoomed in views like I play. It would be good to know if you can use a custom camera angle online - maybe that can be tested in the online beta.

Obviously that hasn't helped at all. We still have end to end games and broken defensive lines.

Has in my games, so many options to adjust playstyle, formation and play positioning in Pes 2017 it's fantastic.

I dont need to adjust anything apart from the way I play to not get end-to-end play.

Well if it's working for you and you're happy with what you have then good for you. Many of us aren't satisfied with just these as they aren't doing the job we want it to do. You can always ignore the extra option. No harm there. Or you can help us have an extra option that won't harm anyone and please some ;)

Thanks Brian.

What were the post match stats like for possession and passing %?

Do you know what stats govern that? A lot of small players are extremely strong on the ball, so. Do you end up fouling them if you apply too much pressure, or is it rather forgiving (which would be bad). Cheers for the write up!

I'm not following... What do we have now then?

Oh that. I thought something else, lol.

Yea the percentage is gone but the number of passes completed/total passes are still there I think. It's the same anyway.

So the question still holds, how many passes completed vs non?

Can't give you a number man sorry

Not sure. But don't worry smaller technical players such as Iniesta can shield really well and use their quickness to shield and turn defenders

Music to my ears.

I was a bit skeptical before E3 in regards to "automated" shielding, but everything I've seen and heard thus far seems very intuitive. Thanks again for all of your lengthy hands-on impressions in a time where we're all scrounging for news. Much appreciated.
