PES 2018 PlayStation & Xbox Discussion Thread

And it bums me the hell out to get responses like this:

Isn't that why the game has Attacking/defense buttons? I think that's the key for what happened there.

Do you mean the attack/defense levels? No, that just controls the amount of players in the attack/defense. In each match they've been green/green, and later on the AI for Liverpool switched to red/red.

Please don't give up, Matt. It's like banging your head against a brick wall, and he's not understanding. Keep it as absolutely simple as you can and keep trying, for all our sakes - especially when it looks like players still don't take into account whether they're winning or losing, whether it's the first minute or the last, etc...

That's what I tweeted. 7-8 players on the midway line and everyone wants to say it's advanced tactics. Really? If something tactically is advanced, it shouldn't break the fundamentals of the game itself. It's a product of the defensive line being far too spaced out from the midfield line.

Don't get me started on the defenders turning their backs on the attacking players. Ugh.

I see the issue you mentioned. It's just a basic error and it's going to destroy the game. It's the same issue in PES 2014 too.

Trying to keep my head up. They think it's just my opinion, but I know everyone who has ever complained about PES 16/17 that the source of their frustrations are from my cases and points. Just because it's been figured out doesn't mean it's a bad thing. With their responses it makes me feel like they're trying to make me look like a troll instead of someone who is constructively trying to help. Figure if it's still in Beta, at least it gives them time to think about the validity before the next patch update.

Exactly. It was there in PES 16 and PES 17. Caught it for 16, didn't say anything, caught it in PES 17, didn't say anything soon enough. Now, have been saying it for months since PES 17's DEMO came out...and it's "new" information? Please. Trying to flippin' help.

On such a zoomed close-up, the grass is 3D in PES aswell.
so in 2018 it's got 3d grass and not flat carpet? I haven't seen that. Could you show what you mean?

Shame about the player model. Jeez, what's with those shoulders and that posture? How hard is it for their Artists to get past FIFA 07 & make an effort to reflect someone actually resembli get a human?
yeah, i'm with you on that. But that lovely pitch.

you have a point, but FIFA has responsiveness and animations. so why not PES too?
goalie animations are much better.
shooting for me on manual is good stuff.

fifa is awful in term of responsiveness !!
not only the producing grips, they even add extra lag on purpose to help CPU cheating on legendary !
I only played fifa in 12,13,14 ... and had some game on 15,16,17
I am sure this is it !
cpu find out your input "after you press the button and before it apply in the game" !! and it is on purpose because they can't make an actual good AI that can compete with humans ... and instead, they do cheating that way.

Atletico-Barcelona. Seems like its on extremely easy
OK, I'll just say it.............Freaken awesome looking stadium and player models!

look how good Iniesta looks coming out of the tunnel.
now after watching this video i'm sold.

I just don't like how in every match, the defensive line is so low and the defenders reluctant to close down/pressure.
but you can set your defensive line though. they have advanced tactics on, probably deep defensive line.
in 2017 the close down/pressure was crazy they came after you like a bull.

I hope so. I remember that in PES 2014, that was a big issue and I couldn't change it and I like having less space between midfield and defense so that I can pressure them.

This is why those who use gegenpress will be fooled as it's not a true gegenpress as that is not done by the player pressuring running 20 yards to the ball carrier. Without proper compression and decompression, the tactics will fail. Again, another example of the chain reaction. All this greatness can be undone.

Why do players still cross without any leg lift :/ How can they not tell there are certain animations that don't relate to certain situations? When hitting a longer pass, a player can't just poke the ball.

And I see more skating introduced. What is going on with PES?

Once again, very little or anything from me to take apart from it looks smoother and sharper. I (thankfully) don't play football videogames to watch them and merely notice things as I am playing. My eyes will be on the ball and the player in control more often than not with peripheral vision taking care of the rest. Again, this is a video that the game is being played on a camera setting I will never ever use...ever as wide-cams suck balls and serves to only make the game easier, regardless of if it is FIFA or PES. It is literally impossible (beyond the obvious) for any video to represent how it will feel for me to play in an actual playing environment.

I remember stuff getting said around this time last year that mirrors that being said now. Didn't stop me playing PES2017 frequently up until now and enjoying it immensely. I have very little concerns based on these videos.

Hi curdstar, always enjoy your posts as it is just about enjoying the game and not the cosmetics. Always make me feel positive about the game which is a good thing.

What camera setting do you use?

(You can reply in 2017 thread as its off topic) ;)

Glad to know I wasn't the only person who found it annoying. Usually when you cross in real life, you would push the ball a bit forward so you could add some velocity and inertia to the ball. But in PES, it takes the current state/animation that is playing and applies the crossing animation without pushing the ball forward. It's so unsatisfying to cross the ball.

I'm sure there are many who see it and it looks incredibly off-putting.

- the game has become something like FIFA

Thanks for confirming what I thought.

It started with announcement of 'shielding', at top CL level it is very rare that a player shields the ball like that. It is a fifa thing, which is disappointing. I get it, they want to increase sales to the fifa crowd.

PES 2017 just got even better.

;D

playermodels are beautiful in that tunnel cam with the 'pool players.

&Brian thanks for the insight but you know if the final game is just a bit off compared to what you provisioned for us you'll be crucified here :P !

I probably will get crucified because over the years its been the E3 code thats been the best code apparently from those that have been playing the E3 demo every year. I can only comment on what I played.

I want to re-emphasize...THIS IS BASED ON WHAT I PLAYED here....not at Gamescom or the demo cause they are going to make changes its inevitable..whether those changes hurt or help the game is out of my control obviously...If they make changes and people want to call me a liar like some dude already said on twitter so be it but I'll be negative and give feedback on bad things and positive on good things. A lot more good in what I played overall I am happy with multiplayer as I only got one match with A.I. it was crowded in the booths again. Online will be fun if they get it sorted right with stability. Jose, when he played a guys who spammed sprint and pressing the whole time you can play around that press and take the space so if people want to play that way if you are good at the game you should be able to counter that like I used to do on FIFA 16 before the dreaded patch that killed the game. Sad day in my life. If not and the A.I. isn't stable enough then its a wasted year because its a really good game. So different than last year. So free. For those that played the PES 2014 leaked demo and remember it this is like the finished version of that in terms of ethos of what Konami was trying to achieve but they couldn't because they didn't have enough animations and couldn't get response times right to compliment the physics and inertia. Jose noticed some minor stuff today I didn't see before and he'll talk about it on the podcast but all was fed back to Konami.

I fed back Pks, tactical system, CPU A.I. individuality-don't know if its in the game because i didn't get to play the A.I. except one match but I said that needs to be in there because thats what made PES PES.

Keepers do some awesome saves then on some shots they float in the air to grab the ball in this one animation. But that animation doesn't happen often at all, Nothing terrible because its on weaker shots that don't go in but that floaty keeper jump was fed back.

Fed back right stick dribble could be more smoother in animation execution and responsive but its def better than in 2017. right stick in 2017 sucked. But you really don't need to use the right stick because of the left stick dribble. They are still working on the left stick dribble to make it look more real and less stuttery/slidey as you see in trailer with Coutinho they want it to look even more realistic works awesome looks fine to me but just my opinion.

I saw Matt's tweets. I know what he's saying about space between midfield and back line. So a lot of the players play with ghegen press and some teams use deep back line or have their back line in defensive instructions like 1/10 so very deep. When you are pressing with 4 or 5 people but have your back line set to deep their is going to been acres of space in midfield. I totally get what Matt is saying. For example alot of Dortmund vs Liverpool matches i played and watched ended of flowing end to end because both teams were pressing high up and both teams by default have deep back lines so space is everywhere.

When I saw Matt's tweets I played Nestor he was Barca and I was Dortmund and I fixed Dortmunds backline to be higher up the pitch and we both took Ghegen press off. The backline was tighter to my midfield and their were tighter midfield battles and more turnovers. This may not be the solution we want to having to deal with that but may just be the solution we got for this year. Because of the way the game flows its not something i honestly noticed until Matt pointed it out and I looked for it. I based on on the teams tactics that were playing. Atletico sits deep and is congested their backline and midfield lines by default are tighter together than every other team in the demo from when I played them.

Got flight early in the morning will post more soon.

yeah thanks for your input B-Man it helps.

so no player vs AI game-play yet?
i'm liking what i'm seeing compared to 2017.
but i need some AI play to see if they pressure you like mad. i don't like 2017 AI pressing frantic ways.

great passing animation at 6:40
fist touch looks loser at 7:40

I'm sure there are many who see it and it looks incredibly off-putting.
does this animation cross look bad at 8:22?

May be that telling them that their concurrent are implementing properly the offensive line behavior when a team defend (offensive players helping progressively to defend at least with their positioning) and vice versa (defensive line behavior when a team attack) might help PES board to swallow the constructive critic.

For me it is a huge negative aspect of the game as it is what really makes midfield battle so rare. If you pass the front line pressure then you are almost free of pressuring until the last third. On the top of that it is also what drives quick end to end games because you have those 2 or 3 dudes already on attacking position when the team get the ball backs, so their is NO transition at all.
To counter that you can use fluid formations and change your wingers into side midfielders to make them help in defense. But it has two main drawbacks, 1) side midfielder retreat too quickly and too deeply in defense, 2) these players get their stamina burned after 60 min and thus are often too quickly substituted by the cpu coach.

I can't believe they are not seeing that. Their is no team on earth that keep 3 players at the half line watching their teammates defend. I mean even at Barca Neymar as to do defensive duties, Suarez to some extant too.

Unfortunately guys this is the way Pes is headed . . .it will never be a sim, we have to accept that. It's all about looking pretty and playing pretty. I understand Matt's concerns totally . .but don't hold Fifa 16 up as an example of what we want . . .from what I have seen there was a lot of mindless passing sideways waiting for a hole to pass through and ending with 3 or 4 attempts on goal. ..and the so called shots that went wide or over felt like they were programmed in for the sake of just having them in and not relevant to what was happening . . .Pes is all about your own approach to the game . .you can unlock any defence with a bit of vision and quick thinking instead of a big imaginary arrow coming up on the screen pointing to "pass here" when it's been obvious for the last 5 seconds. . ..I do hope they can understand what Matt is pointing out to them and be humble enough to tweak it.
