PES 2018 PlayStation & Xbox Discussion Thread

This is what i mean about 3d grass.
it really looks good.
I saw this video yesterday and seriously, the body of players, the thickness of the line, the grass texture repetition, the thickness of the nets, the darkness of the light and the ball physic are just a joke ! :CONF:

So free. For those that played the PES 2014 leaked demo and remember it this is like the finished version of that in terms of ethos of what Konami was trying to achieve but they couldn't because they didn't have enough animations and couldn't get response times right to compliment the physics and inertia. Jose noticed some minor stuff today I didn't see before and he'll talk about it on the podcast but all was fed back to Konami.

Thanks good. I remember that demo and i think it was better than the released 2014 game in terms of realism and "freedom" of movement. If its that way then i can't wait for the beta to try it myself.

One thing that I have to point out that I don't like & didn't like on 17 either was the short range lofted through balls & lob passes. I hated how the ball goes straight up & straight down to players feet when there's like 7 yards between passers-by & receiver. Reminds me of FIFA Street.

AI misplaced passes ?
Are they mentioned in this video? I can't watch at the moment, at work!

Baners in FIFA looks much better and more realistic than Pes. Pes baners looks silly...
I don't see what's silly about a banner at a football game that says "celery"...

In seriousness, I feel like both sides of the fence are becoming obsessed with graphics now! Who cares?!

I like the dribbling. But there is still too much room on the pitch. Doesn't seem much of a challenge to get the ball from one end of the pitch to the other.

I can see better sharper graphics and lighting but also i can see many negatives.
Players are very responsive and quick, they all do stupid same fakes with the ball. many animations dont connect naturally, running still a bit jerky and robotic. needs work. Its in good directions but it has not the variety of fifa movements, even fifa17s...Why cant they find the sweet spot after so may years from pes6 and later?

They are still working on the left stick dribble to make it look more real and less stuttery/slidey as you see in trailer with Coutinho they want it to look even more realistic works awesome looks fine to me but just my opinion.

So much this!

Thank you.

Let me put that this way, this year PES would be like other two versions (16,17) when they came out.
Us, who loves PES will still play it because FIFA simply sucks and after a while we will get bored because gameplay, AI and modes will disapoint again.

All of that will remain forever because of testing has been done by the noobs which all gave only + just because it's little better then last version and they get a chance to play. They don't have time to read this.
So don't expect anything to be changed positively in full release, but maybe worse when they hurry and compress everything in one.

So, see you in 2018 when we will hope the same thing for PES2019 and until end of time.

Any single-player anywhere? Have we yet again got a scenario of early gushing about a game that nobody has in fact played? PES multiplayer and PES single-player are two different games.

There's lots of ways to define the current era of PES. One of the oddest is the way the single-player game is literally an afterthought. Or in this case, a never-thought.

From the videos I've seen, the game looks fast and precise. I've always liked PES for its arcade roots - easy to pick up; difficult to master - but I think they're moving away from that slowly into something resembling FIFA. It's weird to say after so many years of janky animations but maybe it's just too fluid?

Those videos show how easy it is to pick up the ball and take it past players. As well as how easy it is to cross perfectly while running at full speed. It certainly looks easier to attack than it does defend yet again. I wish it was the other way around for a change.

On the plus side, inertia and weight when controlling the ball or shifting runs looks great.

Watching the IGN vid, it really does look smooth and much improved but pretty much the very first attack had my head shaking. if you look from 1:30 ish, Greizmann has the ball in acres of space and the AI liverpool defenders literally have a brain spasm. look how they end up, and the two attackers on the left of the box???

upload_2017-6-15_12-27-34.png

I dunno man there's a lot of good but definitely some weirdness too.

Edit, pretty sure the AI must be at a lowish level, just seen the liverpool winger randomly run the ball out for a goal kick

edit#2 Greizmann blasting it over at 7:40 looks promising for shooting variation

Default FIFA is built on off the ball runs opening up space. If you just look at the PES defensive line, you will see that they are already giving up space, which allows the runs to be made as well. Compression seems like it will have to be manufactured via tactics, like defensive height raised and removing gegenpress, like B said.

The first one should press (N°32) the other one should play the offside line instead of following deeper and deeper the attackers. It is something they have almost right in 17, the CB follows only for a little while then stop.

Also, have you seen the positioning of the two defensive players of Liverpool on the left side on the radar at 1:34 they are literally holding their hands until 1:39. That's so stupid.

true. #32 has two options, to press or to track the attacker on the wing but not compromising the line, the other player just needs to make one step forward or hold the line

upload_2017-6-15_13-0-3.png

and we end up with this... #32 makes a half arsed effort to track the man with the ball and completely ignores the winger, the other player sprints with all his might to the penalty area ignoring Torres. what is this :D

You are very detailed in your tactical analysis and yeah after you pointed it out i noticed that AI tends to give spaces at midfield. It seems like they just have two behaviours:gather around the penalty area and going all out forward while attacking. Keep pointing that on twitter. They see no wrong, but there's obviously something wrong about CPU AI.

Weird you say this, I was thinking about how I would summarise PES 2017 (and what I want for 2018), and had a look at my PES 2017 review:

The focus this year, then, has been entirely on gameplay - and no matter what else could be considered missing, the gameplay is the bedrock of a game like PES.

Years of potential that weren't backed up with enough execution, have finally lead to a game where everything on the pitch has truly "clicked". What's off it can wait for another day.
In other words, there wasn't much change other than the gameplay, and I could absolutely give it a pass on that, because the gameplay needed the attention (IMO - didn't like the previous games). It became the best it ever has been (I still believe that).

2017's gameplay is far from perfect but if I could choose a priority for 2018, it would be working on the AI (including positioning) and the Master League (it's all well and good having a great game of football, but you need something to do with it).

I'm hoping we get more reports from people playing the AI (not on the lowest difficulty) before E3 is over (which is today) - especially when it looks like the Master League has only had the slightest of tweaks (i.e. objectives from the board).

I genuinely think the game looks great, and I've got no doubt it'll be better than PES 2017, but if the AI still plays with ultra pass assist (no errant passes resulting in a loose ball) on Top Player or Superstar, I don't see how anything else will matter, because it'll still be a really frustrating and imbalanced experience.

(Unless, of course, you play offline with friends, or you're a MyClubber.)

As discussed in the ML thread, if youth development stays the same, master league is a 5 seasoner max yet again so yeah I agree ML needs to be looked at.

At least for me, 2v2 and 3v3 look like online modes worth getting into so that might be a good distraction if ML doesn't have any improvements

I think i've become less fussy as I've got older because i play a LOT less than I used to. I've become the pick up and play market Konami are targeting (imo), rather than the old hardcore all day tournament market they used to own. Having said that, as and old school PES player, I don't need a lot of time to get back into the swing of things.

With that said, I'm actually rally positive about what I've seen so far. Contrary to the majority view, I think the visual improvementa are pretty stark and I'm shocked. I hadn't expected to see a proper next gen looking football game from Konami but I think they may be about to deliver one.

Keepers look far more natural although they still need work and I've seen a host of little animations which are new and will add to the flow of the game. Extra touches etc which should make the game play a lot smoother.

for once it loks like Konami have delivered on a lot of things but the overwhelming dissatisfaction with AI has seen a flat response. I'm really looking forward to finding out more for the first time in years.

Genuinely, if you still get retired players in your youth intake again this year, I can't play it. I don't care about graphics, I don't care about petty things, but if I'm getting a "17 year old" youth player called John Terry (with the face of Herbert the Pervert from Family Guy), no. Stop making these ridiculous fantasy decisions - or give us a switch to turn it off.

Most of the visuals and gameplay looks like PES 2017. Animations do look better though.
animations and shooting do look much much more natural than 2017, i hope it s gonna be good, looks great to me, the player are less on rails ball is more loose not close to the player etc, for me the thing in pes 2017 i didnt like is the total absence of player individuality, this is after playing the game a lot , players feel faster than others but there is no individuality, add to that the shooting after a while gets a tad easy and repetitive.

Shame about the player model. Jeez, what's with those shoulders and that posture? How hard is it for their Artists to get past FIFA 07 & make an effort to reflect someone actually resembli get a human?

WTF?
PES body models have always excelled. Years ahead of FIFA's zombie-like body postures and gestures and this year more so than ever.
I can't see what you see wrong with it.

Maybe this particular image doesn't tell the whole story. But in every image and video I've seen, I think it looks phenomenal. Turf looking better than ever, and better than in any football game yet, pitch lines finally looking bold.

Yesterday, while I was watching the Live Twicht by Adam, I made the decision to stop watching and don't watch anything ever again until I tried the game myself when it comes out in September. And so I did. I didn't watch another video, or gif or whatever.

And after distancing myself a little from all this euphoria and hysteria that the PES community rolls on at this time of the year, every year, I can tell you, you (we) nitpick WAY too much. I'm a hundred percent sure, no doubt about this, that you will enjoy the game enormously more. I mean it.

You guys need to not get involved as much. Try it. Take 2 days off from watching and reading every little piece of information available related to PES 2018 and when you come back, you'll notice you actually don't care too much if Neymar is using white boots or whether the Barza shirt is blue enough or not.

It's a concern that foul count is low, one free in the first half.

In the streaming last night there were none in the first half. :(

I mention first half because I didn't get to the end of the match.

One of the most peculiar aspects of hardcore PES fandom today: it cares about nets, faces, boots, pitch textures, and sundry other things of that nature. It doesn't care about fouls. I can't believe the way the PES-playing fandom has given Konami a pass on this issue, year after year. FIFA used to be put in the stocks and have rotten fruit thrown at it for a lot less.

The reason or a big part there are no fouls is the space ..theres far far too much..ok that Liverpool video looks like it's two players but it went from 6yrd box defending to counter attack and a shot in 3 passes ..no midfield at all..graphically it looks nice but looks like same issues pes 17 has..far too open

What is silly? Baners like: VICTORY, WIN OR NOTHING, ATTACK ATTACK etc. This kind of baners are not exist.
