PES 2018 PlayStation & Xbox Discussion Thread

The midfield play was almost non existent in the shacknews stream, the same tactics problems as in pes 2017 seem to be involved.

That's what I tweeted. 7-8 players on the midway line and everyone wants to say it's advanced tactics. Really? If something tactically is advanced, it shouldn't break the fundamentals of the game itself. It's a product of the defensive line being far too spaced out from the midfield line.

Don't get me started on the defenders turning their backs on the attacking players. Ugh.

when will be that on?

Impressions of the video gameplay (after viewing two matches) by PES Russia

8187c362f5a8.jpg

+ Physical contact has become more diverse
+ Changed the physics of the ball
+ More realistic player models
+ Nice looking graphics
+ The mimicry of players looks more realistic
+ The video feels that the response is good (this is confirmed by the playtesters themselves)
+ Goalkeeper has no complaints
+ It is noticed that the ball at a blow can fall from the foot
+ The game has become something like FIFA
+ Players have become more agile, but ..

- .. movements of players are too fast, fussy (jerky)
- not enough small connecting animations for more smooth movements
- the inertia of the players needs to be improved

- physical contact sometimes looks ridiculous
- the landing place of the ball
- the color of TV-popps will not change, as in PES 6
- stop frames the end of replays remained
- players sometimes perfectly stop the ball
- the ball sometimes loses inertia, abruptly at the same time remaining in motion and magnetized to the player;
The physics of the ball still needs improvement (in general)
- replays still lack efficiency
- the game has become something like FIFA

ps. also something similar to PES 2013

Been watching the stream for 5 mins, it looks like its played at 100mph and havent seen a foul yet. I know its early days but the game looks pants, sorry.

First half no fouls. Players look like they just bounce off other players and then keep going. How many times was Liverpool left back getting caught out? I know i'm repeating myself but it looks fast. I'm watching on mobile maybe that makes a difference.

adam just said on stream the FOX engine is harder to get animations working smooth that's why they have to work on them outside of the FOX engine. But for visuals it's a great game engine.
So basically that's why MG5 in game animations are robotic. So we're screwed until they get another game engine that's build for sports games, because the FOX engine wasn't made for sports games it was build for outside open worlds.

Don't expect to see robotic movement removed until next game engine.
I thought the game engine was why the animations were so robotic because MG5 is too.

Asim was playing on a lower difficulty for sure. CPU players weren't even sprinting in situations were they obviously would.

It makes sense. In action driven games, the priority is to make the controls as responsive as possible, even if it implies skipping/cancelling animations. Players need to cancel an animation to react to the enemy. But that looks terrible in realistic sports games, because they need smooth animations and transitions to make them look credible, otherwise they show an "uncanny valley" feeling.

Once again, very little or anything from me to take apart from it looks smoother and sharper. I (thankfully) don't play football videogames to watch them and merely notice things as I am playing. My eyes will be on the ball and the player in control more often than not with peripheral vision taking care of the rest. Again, this is a video that the game is being played on a camera setting I will never ever use...ever as wide-cams suck balls and serves to only make the game easier, regardless of if it is FIFA or PES. It is literally impossible (beyond the obvious) for any video to represent how it will feel for me to play in an actual playing environment.

I remember stuff getting said around this time last year that mirrors that being said now. Didn't stop me playing PES2017 frequently up until now and enjoying it immensely. I have very little concerns based on these videos.

Hard doesn't mean impossible. But it could takes time.
As i see, PES 2018 looks smooth in terms of animations: not as smooth as PES 2014 but on this one there isn't no responsiveness at all. I don't talk about variety or number of different animations, only basics transitions...
There's of course many more animations in PES 2018 at least, but differently handled for responsiveness.

Making both playable and smooth seems the hardest part with the fox engine, which it's more a visual engine to represent reality in terms of "prerendered".
I think that's the "hard" point like someone said: both responsive and smooth.

But i'm not disappointed, and it looks like they've managed it to looks like good, btw i'm waiting about how responsive the game will feel.

i think adam said, they can't build the animations inside the FOX engine so they build them outside, then bring into FOX engine. Maybe this is why transitions are poor.

The good part is visually it's got more to offer he said, (which i believe sense MG5 looks so good being first title to use it) so PES should look better than FIFA for years to come.

What's PES uses is not the combination Havok and Fox?
I think Havok is animations and physics at first... But Fox is not only visual but physics too.

This could be an issue when you build animations on Havok with their own physics properties then bring and modify them to fit with Fox.

Responsiveness hasn't been an issue in PES 2017 AFAIK, why would it be now?.

Just because it looks smooth (like 2014) and i don't have the pad for testing, so i keep my reserve until judgement.
What i saw wasn't totally a PES 2017-like, except for visual and atmosphere, which are pretty much the same for me. It's not a bad point, just saying.

FOX engine has nothing to do with bad animations and jerky movements. PES 2014 is proof of that, in fact the animations there were better than FIFA (even now). I think they want the game to be very responsive that's why some animations feels jerky or sped up.

But either ways, I saw so many awesome animations added for this year. The dribbling looks incredible, skills seems very useful/fun and not so op. I watched all the ones played today. Very pleased with most of what I watched. It's just shooting variations and some crossing animations that needs to be added as well as more styles of realistic running animations. Other than that just take my money :DD

Edit: those that are worried about turf or graphics...

you have a point, but FIFA has responsiveness and animations. so why not PES too?
goalie animations are much better.
shooting for me on manual is good stuff.

FIFA has input lag and def not responsive. Very frustrating game. But with sliders it's better at least. PES 2018 still looks good for the most part imo. Hopefully they use the time they have left to polish the game even more. I bet they already got lots of feedback.
