PES 2018 PlayStation & Xbox Discussion Thread

I forget this all time, what is the default pass assistance setting on PES?
PA1. Which is what I'd love to play the game on, A) if the ball was a bit more loose and better aim was required, and B) if the AI "played on PA1 too", i.e. couldn't hit perfect passes all the time.

This is what i was hoping. As long as it remains loose like B-man says, then I will be happy to use it again over Manual. promising.

Ditto - but, again, as long as the AI doesn't play as if it's on its own special PA level. Hopefully we get some reports about playing against the AI today...

But the game does need more shot animations and that was fed back to Adam and the team.

Oh boy. Just as I thought. I'm pretty sure PES 2010 had more shooting animations than the last few PES titles. The hell.

Just watched the trailer. I thought animations were terrible, almost felt like framerate was not stable, transition animations and shooting animations leave a lot to be desired.

Great review from B-man . . pks are good? Ironic if there are none awarded. . .playing against the A.I will be the real test. . .. fingers crossed girls.

Special thx to B-man! Sounds good to me.

Watching that 8 min gameplay vid, I feel quite optimistic.
Last year watching the gameplay vids of PES 2017, didn´t impress me at all. Looked like a refined PES 2016 to me which I hated (loved FIFA 16 instead).
But when I played the 2017 demo it felt so well and much better than 2016.

Guess this goes the same way then here, only with the difference that I really really like playing 2017 still and believe me or not - but there I still see goals and situations I haven´t seen before (full manual, top player).
Here, I like the visuals, pace and movement looks good too.
Also, the view when the GK does a kick off.

I´m quite sure I´m gonna like it and it will be defo a day one buy. Just don´t know what platform I´ll chose, PS4 or PC.

It was probably just a glitch but the net barely moved after the Firmino volley goal in the trailer.

I think in the PES 2017 trailer last year I felt the same way. But in the game it was good.

@B-Man
With all due respect, and I really appreciate the time you took to give us your thoughts, but PES 2018 impressing Fifa players doesn't fill me with optimism. Or in other words, I don't care if it does. No offense to Fifa fans of course, but the games play differently and if either of them starts swaying fans of the other game its way, I take it its becoming more and more like their previous game of preference(?), so its starting to cater for their tastes more. I hope I'm wrong.

I'd rather the game impressed OG PES fans (not all of them of course). They know exactly what needs to be addressed as they've been there from the start.

Yup, i was also annoyed by that constant remark. why would you want to impress the FIFA players? they have a game they like, so unless you plan on changing your game to suit them why does that matter? i can't remember a FIFA promoter ever making such remarks.
why is that so important?
unless ofcourse the PES sales are that bad and they are hoping that would change if the FIFA players jump ship.

I'm pleasently surprised by what i've seen. The game looks refined and the graphics look vastly improved in wide cam. I hear the concerns on ping pong passing and as Chris mentioned, unforunately i think it's their chosen direction.

Outside of that I actually think this looks like a PS2 style refinement. Whilst the base may not be the same market leading base the Ps2 era had, it is still a decent one. from PES3-6 there wasn't any drastic change in the game but small iterative changes which lead to significantly improved games.

I remember i used to watch videos or look at screens of new games on PS2 and see new animations and little touches that looked amazing. Ball physics were never really tampered with visually (from memory) but changed in how they were executed. IE power bar became more sensitive, body shape etc affected shots more.

This finally looks like a return to that sort of iterative improvement which I fully endorse. If Konami are happy with the direction they're taking the game, only good things can come from it. They've suffered trying to cater for everything in the past.

Is there an obvious leap? probably not, but it's clear there's been an improvement in animation, graphics, ball physics and keepers, so that bodes very well for how the game plays.

If the passing on PA 1 is as described by B-man it would be lovely. What would be even more lovely if that was the ONLY PA u could play with online...(that or manual).

Does anyone know if free kicks have gone back to the way they used to be or have they simply just removed the visual aid?

Looks like they're using the old system like in pes 2013 (before they switched to the goddam arrows in 2014)

First: thank you @B-Man for the summary !! I really appreciate your effort!
Reading impressions, watching the trailer and gp videos... I see a lot of positive stuff! Sure some things we have to feel ourselves aka playing it. But I'm hopeful it's a big step in the right direction. Can't wait to hit the beta!!
A good day to all of you!! :)

I think someone played the game last year and said passing was so free and enjoyable and then another gaming event he said they changed it. I don't remember his name but either ways Konami needs to stop changing what doesn't need fixing. They don't seem to listen and they always get scared of the casuals. Piss off.

This yearly deja vu is both funny and sad.

I think we're all insane.

Haha it always is. To be honest, I've been pretty critical in the past and haven't always bought PES since 2008. This is the first time since 2014 I've been excited for the release.

I have to disagree with people who say it looks the same as 2017. It is similar but it's very clearly more refined and graphics a significant step up.

What I can guarantee is the majority people at E3 and gamescom will be blinded by the newness and exitement. Not consciously but they will be, it's always the way.

I was having issues with my CPU, but here's my Top 5 Gameplay Priorities for PES 2018. I can already tell some of them aren't addressed, based on the gameplay I've seen...

I really want to watch this but equally want to avoid it

I'm not very observant with isues like you point out, Matt so I'd prefer to stay oblivious! I remember the jogging bug back in the day which i would never had noticed had it not been pointed out by the evil internet forces.

Assuming, based on what I've watched of yours before, it's great work, though. Keep it up dude because it's things like this that will help make the game great if ever acknowledged.

At this point, the only reason I allow myself to be consumed by this annual boom-bust cycle is due to my love of football. I descend into madness and throw every bit of logic and common sense right out the window once E3 rolls around. I'm ultimately left unsatisfied, question why I bothered wasting emotional energy on such a trivial matter, and like an amnesia patient, hop back on the hype train the following summer. Every fiber in my body tells me no, but hey, it's silly season.

Rejoice, my fellow Muppets.

Day one buy!

Seriously though, it is, because 2017 has given me so much joy. They'll need to knock something off the price for me to preorder it though, as I will do sod all with that myClub stuff, could not care less.

Happy to see that Firmino goal recreated so well, he sure as shit didn't score it against Dortmund though

Nets didn't move though

I see a future where PES (maybe PES 2078) uses DNA to photo-realistically and holographically recreate every footballer and their physical abilities, right down to the shape and colour of their testicles swinging out of the bottom of their shorts when they run up to take a free-kick, and someone somewhere will leave a review of 2/10 because "the nets don't move right so what's the point in scoring".

:D

:LMAO::LMAO::LMAO:

The dortmund players were signalling offside when Firmino was atleast a yard onside, at worst, then the defenders were hesitant & had 0 urgency to get back, alarm bells are ringing if the goal wasnt a deliberate setup by 2 human players
