PES 2018 PlayStation & Xbox Discussion Thread

Official front cover released!

Pre-order canceled. I don't want a game with 'Hannibal' as the cover star. :D

Jesus, the cover, intro and other stuff will be Barcelony only as long as the partnership goes? So no respect to players who dont like Barcelona. Fair enough.

Adam said Sony said that you wouldn't have to, but in the past Sony have been wrong when relaying that sort of info

Does anyone know if we will need to pay for psn to try the beta?
To play online you need PS+.
If you don't want to pay, you can creat new PSN account and activate free PS+ for 2 weeks, and then you can play online games on your main account.
And you can creat as many new accounts as you want, you can even do this every two weeks, and use free PS+ indefinitely.

PSplus is not required for free-to-play content thus it shouldnt be for the beta.

I have always wondered few things about licenses in PES games (since you guys talked about Bundesliga in PES a few pages earlier):

* Konami should IMO use more generic looking icons and logos everywhere, like in Football Manager games. If a league isn't licensed, why not have the nations flag as logo? For Premier League, English Flag and for it's unlicensed clubs, similar crests like FM uses for it's unlicensed clubs. Same goes for all the national cups and international competitions: instead of creating something really silly looking logos for unlicensed World Cups, why not use some generic looking crests?

* Names of the unlicensed clubs: back in the day of ISS Pro 2, clubs were named after their hometowns. Milan, Manchester etc.. Football Manager also lacks the Premier League license but they can use at least the hometown (or region) names of the clubs like Liverpool, Chelsea, Stoke... Why must Konami use Merseyside Blue instead of Everton?

* Then the kits of unlicensed teams: is it really necessary for those teams to have all sorts of weird stripes and lines running all over their kits instead of just more plain looking kits? Is it a violation of licenses if team USA uses just plain white shirts instead of them having red and blue lines all over the kit and light grey stripes?

* Japan's national team: they have it in Winning Eleven yet in PES they are unlicensed... some sort of regional license I presume? But why?

* Also I think it would be nice if they went the old FIFA way with unlicensed national teams and have players like "No 23" and "No 9" etc in the squad rather than coming up with fake names. To me it would feel less unlicensed but maybe that's just me... FIFA 2002 had all the national teams that participated in the WC2002 qualifiers and most of the teams were unlicensed like that but nobody noticed.

* Konami also advertises in European Qualifiers (the national team qualifying brand) games and they are official sponsor of the tournament. It would seem they have the license for the qualifiers yet they do nothing about it. I know international qualifiers aren't the hottest games out there nowadays but it would make a great addition to cup modes and Master League to have a real qualifiers before the final tournament.

* And finally: what's the deal of not having extra European clubs unlicensed like they used to have? Celtic were Old Firm Green (or something like that) etc.. I get there might be licensing preventing this kind of use of clubs but they have entire leagues of fake club names with real players (Premier League for example). Is there a difference?

It would be nice if Konami could answer some of these questions (I highly doubt it) but at least we can always speculate...

u would only wish that those replays mean anything in normal gameplay, it doesn t have any bearing on normal gameplay unfortunately, u would still see unrealistic goals like the messi backheel with the keeper not even closing down on him whatsoever...i can t explain how it looked so basic that goal...its the keepers that are making it feel like this....

I'm convinced Weedens plays on the easiest difficulty to record these videos, to be able to do all the tricks without too much hassle.

Imagine the amount of playing time it would take for him to make these moves and record these trailers if he was playing on Top Player and Superstar. I wouldn't read too much into positioning or defender reactions.

yeah, because at 1:18 the goalie diving out of play at nothing but air is just retarded.(no goalie would do that) So hopefully it's not seen at regular or professional difficulty because even at regular difficulty it should play decent games.
it's not there yet, but PES is evolving into something special i think.
Those player models are fantastic!

I play PES 2017 on Top Player and I have never ever had a keeper doing anything retarded as you describe (haven't watched Weedens videos), so I doubt PES 2018 will be worse than PES 2017 at that.
Ease up bro, nobody who actually PLAYED THE GAME has complained about retarded keepers.

Actually.... nobody who has played the game has complained about anything. They are all shocked with the game.
So just take the videos and enjoy them. That's all you can really do right now.
what do u mean shocked?, did u see what matt10 said about defensive positioning and midfield positioning, the errors are still there, its making the pitch look empty and making it easier to attack, they haven t fixed the return to attack and defend that matt10 talk about.

I've also seen strange behaviour by the goalkeepers in such situations before (when the ball is near the goal line outside of the post), but it happened also in the PS2 era. It happened rarely then, and it happens once in a blue moon now. I agree it shouldn't happen at all, but I believe that keepers have grown pretty reliable now compared to what they were at the beginning of the 'Fox' era (PES 2014 at release anyone? Back then the keepers were truly embarassing) and are still improving.
