PES 2018 BETA Discussion Thread

Also, the last game was 100mph - I can't explain it really, because he wasn't a ping-pong passer or anything, but it was twice as fast as the previous games. I can only assume it was because it was (my first) lag-free game, but if that's the case, I hope they all lag from now on!
Yep. That's why I say people should wait for the demo to judge pace and response before prematurely jumping off their seats ecstatic about this slower gameplay. If you're an offline player, keep level headed and don't get too ahead of yourselves.

Just a reminder, this online beta's purpose is for reporting on the online aspects of the game, not for offline gaming reviews like some are jumping the gun writing long love stories already. If you're an offline player, you're better off ignoring these type of posts. They're not for you.

I agree but then again I just think the gaming industry as well as the gaming developers have changed their focus to animations and gameplay where as back then devs were more into gameplay.
online play is what's killing AI.. Time isn't spent on offline AI today because it's a minority. Online looks to be the future of gaming. This should set AI back years behind.

Took me a few minutes to get the first match up then it didn't connect. Few minutes later matched up to the same guy and didn't connect. Third time lucky! And then I got a few games in, with a 1-2 minute wait for match ups.
There was some slight lag early on and one or two moments where the game stopped for a second then went into super warp speed but otherwise it was pretty smooth and I've only got a 3 megabit sync speed playing over Wi-Fi.

Saw another comment here saying people shouldn't be allowed to complain that the game is slow or unresponsive. Maybe they're just seeing the effects of lag, rather than slating the gameplay. Pretty sure the speed will be fine offline and not too bad online.

Anyway - saw some good saves from the keepers but level 1 passing seems super assisted??? Very rare errors in passing as opposed to what I'd expect on level 1. Really enjoy stepping on the ball with the special control button (I've re-mapped it to the left trigger) and dribbling. Good way to beat players in a controlled fashion. But I don't want to get bogged down in gameplay talk as we're meant to be sorting out the connection issues.

Ok i played one game

I was winning 2-0 before the connection died.

Connection was awful. Cant really take anything from it.

Anyone here in North America have some solid games. Maybe all connections in Canada are shit

I'm not going to lie I did have one match just now that the player was cool as hell. It felt like playing a smart COM/AI not a human being. He was passing around, having fun, exploring scoring options, in the end 88th min I scored a goal with Neymar, and ended up with one nill win. Online experience does change the way we think about gameplay - at least for me. The game becomes boring and dull when 95% of the matches are kids with 3 bar assist passing playing ping pong football. One thing that does irritate me is player responsivness. They are NOT that responsive. Im not sure if online lag is causing this but I feel like if I want to pass the ball to a nearby player my opponent reaches to me and grabs the ball away even though I pressed the pass button. Just feels like reponse of a player needs to be improved. So far I have had zero lag to deal with. I have about 100mbps internet speed.

I live in Boston bud, have Comcast - 100mbps connection and have not had a single match yet with a lag. Wish we can send invites so I can play you.

maybe why the ball looks like it's running at .75 speed compared to as IRL. Just think the ball isn't moving fast enough. The players move to fast compared to IRL.

Interested to know what manual players think of the match-up vs assisted players now? I found it much better, though I only had a couple of games and I've not played since midday so I don't know if styles of play have started to fall into certain exploity patterns already.
still find PA1 to be too direct/perfect to the feet most times, manual feels even better in 18, thats for me anyways.

hey, i was going to say how cool it is. You beat me to it. Yep it helps games to have good music and menus. Waiting for good menus still.
For me it's not the songs picked for the soundtrack, it's the amount. Like 10-15 songs isn't gonna last forever and gets repetitive fast. What about 30-40 songs, or change em with a patch?! Same goes for the menu background. Add more!
When I got bored by the songs in 2017, I used the Spotify music feature on PS4. Selecting "the other game 15" playlist in it and your not bored anymore... :)

After playing 3 matches last night, I'm with @Lami . The first 2 matches had 2/3 online bars and as I am very sensible regarding fps drops, micro stutter... I couldn't find it as fluid as I wanted it to be. I'll give the beta some more matches for sure, but really looking forward to a lag free, fluid and stable performance in the demo.

Just a few quick points:
- love the pace, so slow.
- like the new animations
- didn't like the 2nd cursor thing, distracts me a little
- gfx are nice and crisp on pro and 55" 4k
- got a pen in the first match (that's like 20% of 2017)
- got a red card in the first match
- I did not like the online performance so far, even on 3 bar it feels laggy
- matchmaking took 1 min only (ok for the beta)
- delay in button commands because of online performance

they should not mess with the pace of this game.. it seems really good to me. I don't know why people would say to speed it up. I sure hope they don't do that. passing seems pretty good at 1 assist. at first it seem kind of difficult for me but I'm getting it now. defending in this game is the best... and controlling the flow of the match. you can't do that in other games online like you can with this. they should not change anything much about the pace and flow of this game imo

I'm confident Adam and Co. will not speed it up. Soooo many people say keep the pace the way it is.

My experience has been great. The issue I had was already fed back, and Adam was already ahead of the game and addressed it - confirming they were fixed in the gamescom build:

Anyone else not able to get last the main menu, the Testing Network Environment screen comes up the just kicks me back to the main menu.

Ok. We have shitty internet in our house. Plus my brother was doing all sorts of things with my laptop.

Hopefully we will get some proper internet next month. Good to know there are people in North America with good internet to play PES online. If there are anyone else specifically in Canada can tell me their experiences online.

I can't fault the PES team really because ever since the 2015 game they have improved it each year bit by bit finally its getting somewhere they just need a new shooting system more than anything

I did have a great goal scored past me though where the shot look so natural guy i played worked the ball slowly outside my area then played a beautiful pass to coutinho who took a touch then bent it over my gk it dipped in mid height at the far post looked superb the pace and trajectory of the ball was realistic never seen a goal like it on 2017 just a shame its not always like that

My victory 5:0

i have to say i love the animations, they look superb, but i can t but still say that the shooting is too direct too powerful, the trajectory and power is not realistic, the ball travels at a rocket speed, this needs toning down..
