PES 2017 PlayStation & Xbox Discussion Thread

Right. Which one of you handsome mofos has Option File for this?

Doesn't matter which season. Can be 2017 season. I just feel that I need to install and upgrade all the older Pes games before option files are lost forever

The only negative I have with PES 2017 and granted, I play on default assists - it gets easy after a while (I'm playing with Spurs so have good players so bear that in mind as well).

It's the 'easiest' Fox Engine PES for sure. A lovely game and the CPU doesn't talk BS like it does in most of the releases since then but yeah, PES 2017 doesn't challenge enough in Superstar for me.

Disclaimer: I'm always going on about football games being easy like I'm some god - I'm not  For some reason in PES 2017 I find the CPU a little passive at times. I beat Real Madrid earlier 2-0 without breaking a sweat, didn't have to fight for the result at all.

Maybe I'll play as a Sky Bet Champ or Serie B side on my next save.
I feel like added responsiveness in these games usually comes at the cost of them being too easy

Been jumping about on different versions of PES.

I've come to the conclusion this week, this is the best modern PES made.

It has everything - unpredictable moments, you can dribble, pull off skill moves, score some worldies, the AI dribbles and beats your defenders and the physicality is brilliant.

I've played 3 games tonight.

1st one, ball over the top, goes loose, their 'keeper comes rushing out, I get to it just before him and he clatters me. Pen and yellow card for GK. Lovely.

2nd game, not much happening then the AI give it to their winger. He does a drag back, beats 1, jinks round the 2nd of my defenders then crashes a shot off the post.

3rd game I've just played. I gifted them a goal then they sat back. But that also meant they kicked me to ribbons. Anytime I got into a dangerous position, the AI flattened me. I had about 13 free kicks in a 14min game. I lost 1-0, couldn't create anything clear cut but it was great to see them deploy them tactics to keep me out.

I think I've realised what's been missing from a lot of games I've been trying - fun.

I've downloaded an option file and will get a ML going tomorrow night. I can't bloody wait, I feel like I'm 10 again 😂

This is exactly how I feel about 2017, it’s my favourite iteration of PES and I’m currently in the 2053 season of my ML save with Arsenal😂in PES 2021 I couldn’t even bare to get past 2 seasons

So I recently jumped in I found a workbable option file and got a few games in and I'm totally in love with this game. Its very responsive but theres a certain physicality and weight to the players and the ball is very loose, if you over dribble the ball gets nicked away. Im sure some tween complained about this and it was taken away

I've turned back to PES 2017 as well for the past two weeks, playing an old save on my Xbox master league and things were a bit strange at the beginning, but now it clicked and it's so hard to go back to PES 2021. There's a sense of randomness, there's a feeling of easy defending in a realistic way, the manual passing actually feels good and free, but with a minor assistance just enough to avoid frustration... It's a very balanced game. And also, the referees, so much better! They're not affraid of showing yellow and red cards, or giving penalties.

Also love the fact that GK's are not super human, you can actually catch them on the wrong foot and so on.

The only thing that I remember being a problem at the time was the similar pace to every player, but I understand it's part of the mechanics to keep the game interesting, and outpacing the CPU is actually a contextual thing rather than just keep the sprint button pressed all the time. It works, and the overall experience is great! Loving it!

Final version is awesome. There is no need to have your Internet turned off and option files disabled. You can go for final version, update all the tactics, sort out all the kits and enjoy. This game is savage.

hey @Emroth dont try and push me/us in to this game again, its a serious addiction for sure.
I'm having a blast on both Pes21 and Pes17 right now and running ML on both.
17 might not be a looker, but it's the only recent football game, where AI can really surprise me, whether they dribble pass me, making an absolute fool of me, shoot from distance, or take me out just before I'm 1v1 with a keeper.

21 with all the tactics and kits plays really well and looks great on PS5, but 17 is the one where I often look at what AI just did and go:

It truly is a great game, havent played PES 21 on console, only on PC and funnily enough i prefer my xbox version of 20 vs it.
Yes, the stuff that the ai pulls off on 17 is sometimes truly remarkable, for sure the best ai of all modern games.
Had the cpu taking a shot from pretty much their half once, missed by a mile, but still really a cool move.
enjoy them both buddy
Im doing tactics editing on my 20, havent decided on a serie a or Argentinian league ML, but one of those once my Roma one is done

Pretty much where I'm at. I'm playing 21 because it's gorgeous to look at and I like the way dribbling works in the game. But I don't think I've ever played another football game that has ever had more 'put my controller down' moments than 17. I can play BAL in 2017 but opted for ML in 21. Because AI teammates actually impact the game in the vanilla game. It's taken trying all sorts of mod combinations and tactical tinkering to achieve anything similar with AI teammates in 21.

17 granted me so many goals where I would just watch my AI teammates create amongst themselves and score. I get less of that in 21. Heck I've recently been mass editiing players just to get them to shoot from outside of the box ffs.

From a fixed cursor/BAL standpoint, I can get enjoyment from 21. But 17 is the most complete experience I think I've had with any FIFA or PES.

The thing is - Pes21 does not surprise me. It's amazing on the ball, I really like the feel when you are dribbling, I love how manual passing/shooting feels there, but it just doesn't surprise me.
AI dribbles when I think they will dribble, they cross when I think they'll cross and shoot when I think they'll shoot. And either I manage to stop them, or not.
It's very solid football experience, but the entire experience lacks these "Woah!!!" moments. And Pes17 delivers.
The mad thing is that the ball (especially passing) is much more rigid in Pes17, yet somehow it feels more free and creates much more random and unexpected moments.

I know exactly what you mean and frankly it reminds me of one goal in particular:

Straight up when this happened I went "wow" because it was absolutely out of nowhere. I've said it plenty of times, the AI in 21 lacks a sense of agency that exists in the AI in 17. In 17 I started out as a right winger (it helped with getting used to player cam) but eventually I began to roam because I wanted to. I wanted to be more involved in build up. In 21, I roam because I have to. If I don't involve myself in build up, the CMs and CBs just pass it amongst themselves until a CB boots it forward usually to the other team. Modern football managers would love a player like me; I absolutely have to be leading my team in progressive passes and progressive carries (and whatever other metrics modern football is obsessed with).

The AI is such an important aspect of the experience that gets left behind when the priority is competitive multiplayer. Which, as we saw, increasingly became the priority after the introduction of myclub. AI is important. I can't speak on how the AI behaves in eFootball as I've not played much of it and haven't played it in at least a year, but I could definitely see the downturn that the AI took over the last few year of PES.

Pretty damn good shooting there.

How do you let the ball pass through your legs and then chase it on this beauty?
In Pes21 it's holding R2. Here I was trying to hold R2, R1 and nothing..

is it not L1+R1
According to control manual it's actually just R1, but it's very inconsistent. Sometimes they let the ball through, sometimes they take a touch. Not sure why. But to be honest - I have same inconsistency with headers. Sometimes they don't even jump when I'm pressing the button.
There must be some condition for both, but I can't figure out what it is.

Speaking of the game keeping us honest, I'm playing master league and my leading goal scorer is out for 12 weeks with a serious knock, his back up also picks up an injury next game for 7 weeks, the january transfer window has closed and I'm proper f*cked and loving it. Why did they nerf serious injuries post 17? The longest injury I got in pes 2020 was a week nothing longer

I always had my own few rules when playing Master League.
When someone's form was diagonal downward (↘️) - I was considering this player slightly injured. He could only play up to one half and had to be changed after.
If someone had a form with arrow down (⬇️) - that was instant replacement. Unable to play.
Normally this rule was just keeping things interesting, forcing me to rotate players, but in Pes17 it can properly mess things up. I had 3 of my forward players injured for few weeks and my only replacements had arrows down. Had to play with midfielders up front.
(And loved it)
