PES 2017 PlayStation & Xbox Discussion Thread

Is there a particular reason why so many of you are still getting this on a disk, rather than just downloading and having the game unlock at midnight? Just the thrill of waiting for the mail?

Personally I do it in the US because I get it from Amazon Prime which delivers the same day it releases (it is home when I get from work), and most importantly to resale. I bought PES2016 and after a month I sold it and just lost 10 dollars. I try to get rid of games once I know I wont play them. I got $25 credit for fifa 17 when I traded in fifa 16 for example.

How is the lighting this time? Every year, I tend to prefer day lighting to night lighting or vice versa. I hope this time around, both day and night lighting are good.

He did, i.e. the shorts are comically big (i.e. they're so big it's funny) compared to the shorts that footballers wear this century.

Weird thing is the shorts look fine on tall players like Ibrahimovic, Pogba and Mertesacker but once you start getting to players less than 180cm tall ( Sanchez, Messi, Cazorla) that is where things start to look really odd. Even crazier thing is adjusting leg length on players in edit mode adjust the length of players shorts.

played fifa demo. fifa have progressed right with frostbite. better foot planting, better lighting and graphics overall. but in terms of gameplay fifa looks like a joke compared to pes this year. i had feeling like i watching some boring opera while i actually playing the game. konami did very good job this year in terms of gameplay, hats off. if they fix the foot planting, make animations less robotic the game will look like real football on tv. also noticed that on default speed pes is more intense, on -1 the game plays more natural but somehow playing on -1 makes the game easier. roll some good OF so we can start master league tomorrow :)

Everyone seems to win their first games, well ive lost 4-0 to Fiorentina as Dortmund. Im not the best player, never will be and tbh I went full on attack at 2-0... got punished. I had bits and bobs to claw it back as well, just didnt take them.

Things have picked up, we somehow scored twice in the final 5 minutes to nab a draw with CSKA 2-2. Then a thrilling and I say that as it was one of the best games ive played, 0-0 draw with Chelsea kept me alive.

Somehow we won 3-1 at the Bridge, all goals in the 1st half as Aubemyang turned on the jets... before another loss to Fiorentina, this time 2-3.

Final group game, ive got to beat CSKA and hope Chelsea lose to Fiorentina, or my adventure ends

Hi, a question to the ones who already have it. Could someone please check when selecting a team in a cup (single player mode) does the CPU automatically pick the other teams or can you pick the CPU teams one at a time?

Hope that makes sense ;)

Good question. I'm hoping that by having the disk, if there are any updates that mess it up then i can just revert back. I am right arent i guys?
Yes sir, that's right that's why I also bought it on disc,I always buys it on discs, especially if the game sux,I can always get at least 50-75% back.
Sold both my Xbox 360 PES games last year (15-16)
Ended up buying them back for my xb1 though....
So I my head Konami fucking owes me

I agree. I played the FIFA demo and was getting quite bored with it. I will probably still buy it eventually but for now ive cancellled my order and waiting patiently for PES tomorrow.

Does this year have that instance that it is raining in the first half and then dry the next? I havent seen that, actually none of my games have been in rain. Maybe the default is dry...

Will Konami Update screw in any way the OF i applied?

Boof! Eat my goal!

Great, now I can't get Alan's "Gooooooooooooaaaaaaaal" out of my head!

People say this to the point that it's almost a cliché now, but I've just had the best game of football I think I've ever had. I tried to save a recording of it but unfortunately the first 20 minutes of the match are missing.

I started another Master League, as Middlesborough, on Top Player. First game was against Bournemouth. It was a totally different experience to anything I had with the demo or in any of the other matches I played this morning.

  • Bournemouth were really slowly jogging on the ball from kick-off and looking for passes, to the point where it felt bizarre, because it was a new experience. It was so strange, that it felt like they were being controlled by another human.
  • As a result of this style of play, the speed of the game slowed down MASSIVELY compared to the other matches I've played.
  • Playing with the pass assist set to default (i.e. PA1), passes weren't as easy to make, and the balance felt just right, for me. Big difference compared to playing matches with the best teams (such as those in the demo).
  • The guys who couldn't dribble, really couldn't get away with a dribble. I didn't know the players and I was being punished for trying to beat decent players with guys who didn't have the skill to do it.
  • When it got to 70 minutes, because I was constantly running and pressing at this point out of desperation, there were some tired legs. Trying to move one of the affected players felt like trying to steer an elephant through an assault course. Their legs had started to go, and I could actually feel it.

Bournemouth went 1-0 up after five minutes - it was a nice dribble from their midfielder, followed by a dink of a pass to the striker (who was in space after I moved his marker to block the midfielder's shot), and a blast into the top (!) corner.

I was set up quite defensively and I didn't want to push it, but half time came and it was still 1-0 to the home team.

So I decided to be a little more adventurous - first by adjusting the ATT level a little bit, and finally by using the new advanced tactics ("wing backs push up" and "strikers stay central").

Here's the recording of the second half - there's a lot going on:

If you don't want to know the score, look away now (by which I mean, don't click the below spoiler).

Within the first few minutes I had a shot that went AGONISINGLY wide. Shortly afterwards, they had a great chance to score and using the slide-tackle button I JUST managed to deflect it wide.

Check out the moment where they're through on goal and I bring the goalkeeper out, which forces the AI into a shot from range that goes way wide.

Look how many long shots the AI tries (particularly around the 70 minute mark). At last!

That equaliser... Let me tell you, I haven't properly celebrated a goal in PES for years, truly, but for that, I was running around the living room with my shirt over my head. The SATISFACTION of FINALLY breaking their defence.

...and then, being an idiot, I decided NOT to turn off the attacking options (it was my first game with Middlesborough and I wanted a cheeky win). One perfectly-executed lofted through-ball later, I'd thrown it all away.

It looks so real, though, that last goal. It looks like something from Match of the Day. I didn't feel cheated, I didn't feel anything was unfair. It was hard as nails, and satisfying as hell.

Also, those who talk about defender catch-up... Just check out the last goal and how I stand absolutely no chance.

There is magic in this game.
my goodness what a match. that through ball at 2.52 was brilliant and the way the second player was holding his ground before making his run not to get caught offside was so realistic.
when you equalized i thought, well atleast the the hard work payed off and then Boem.
that last goal is really a match of the day contender.
fantastic.
thanks for sharing.
the game looks brilliant en the AI really plays like a human player from time to time

Apologies for littering the thread, however....

CSKA final game, following on from my earlier post. Within 2 minutes we concede a penalty... Dzagoev skies it!

Its a gritty 0-0 until the 2nd half then this happens:

I cant believe it.... within 5 minutes CSKA take the lead. We are desperate and equalise, but its not enough.

2 minutes added on...

A dream finish? Well sadly no, as Chelsea won and all the above was irrelevant! A fantastic 6 games though, so many highlights, but these 2 stood out in a final game setting.

Im not very good at videos, took me best part of half an hour to sort it out :(

How is the lighting this time? Every year, I tend to prefer day lighting to night lighting or vice versa. I hope this time around, both day and night lighting are good.

Lighting is shit, everyone is unhappy with the day lighting/washed out turf colour this year - so expect to prefer night time games this year.

We need to get the community to get this on Twitter and get it patched to turn up the green or alter the washed out texturing.

Does this year have that instance that it is raining in the first half and then dry the next? I havent seen that, actually none of my games have been in rain. Maybe the default is dry...

This was in the Demo, dry one half then visible rain in another.

Is anybody else playing the full game with a constant smile on their face?

Played as Milan against Inter. Playing mostly long balls with my two strikers and attacking midfielder. but the Inter defence was coping well, keeping compact. Briefly tried using attacking fullbacks in the advanced tactics section to go round them, but they kept getting me on the counter attack. And they went ahead 1-0. So I cancelled that tactic. But as the match went on I couldn't break down their defence. With 5 minutes to go I tried it again, hopeful high balls into the crowded box, couple of head ons and a scrambled goal. Just wow!

The best ones aren't out yet (PESGalaxy, PESUniverse etc.) but you can grab some basic ones from the forums at PESGaming. I'm using the PESHK one which just updates the kits (excluding second divisions) and badges.

You would be right.

Doesn't the more expensive one come with weekly MyClub points to spend or something like that?

 I love the thought of him saying that casually. "Want a tit? Anyone?" "I'll have one!" "He'll have a tit."

I loved the line of commentary from Jim Beglin just before the final whistle. For once, I thought it captured the moment perfectly.
:LMAO::LMAO::LMAO: I'll have one too :LMAO::LMAO:

Had a great first game, Liverpool v Crystal Palace.

Absolutely shat all over them in the first and went in 2 - 0 up, with 60% possession and 9 shots to 1. Second half they played a lot more aggressively and had a couple of chances, so I just decided to see out the game and keep the ball. Tactics :D

Played my first game. Top Player.

PSG V Arsenal and it was 1-1 just like last night.

Things I noticed ...

Game is 100% not the same as the Demo, slight but noticeable alterations have been made in many areas, physics, animations, weight and speed.

- Ball travels heavier and with more realistic trajectory, speed and weight.

- Physical play and dispossessions are not as binary as they were in the Demo, more outcomes and randomness are possible.

- CPU slightly easier to dispossess (likely only in Exhibition mode - Proper modes will be harder as always)

- Easier to create chances but not too easy by any means, not as tightly marked/space squeezed as in the Demo

- Passing lanes and space available that just wasn't there in the Demo

- You get on the end of through balls that you wouldn't have on the Demo

- Shooting power is altered but still good and correct with the right player and situation.

- Game is more free and random than the demo - more chaotic in a good way

- CPU played more human like also they dink lots of deadly short balls around the box just over defenders outstretched leg etc. to create chance when you think you blocked their options.

- Defender clearances and headers go further upfield than the demo - more power in them, something PES defending has needed for a long time ... No more 15m 'clearances' or not as many anyway.

- Turf/Grass colour is shocking - I want to cry ! I had hoped that only new stadiums had poor grass saturation but alas no - I played in St. Jakob Park as I know that had brilliant grass last year and I have some screenshots of it and I took one on this game same height and angle and its so washed out compared to last year's rich colourful grass screenshot I have on my PS4 - Gutted !

The game is also softer and less crisp looking than last year's game - I had hoped this may be a demo thing but the full game is still soft in comparison to 2016, especially the grass.

The craziest thing about the grass is in replay mode up close it is the right colour but as soon as you are back to gameplay cameras it's all wishy washy and no longer green. It's as if some artist at Konami thinks that grass is faded and no longer green when you are looking at it from 20 metres away or more - Mental !

I'm sure the game is going to be good in the long run but right now I'm so put off and gutted looking at that awful grass - especially as they tried to fix something that wasn't broken from 2016 and ballsed it right up.

I'd kill for a patch to fix it from Konami but I ain't holding my breath.

Thanks for your time guys.

Has anybody else's commentators just disappeared? They worked on the first game but since then not a word spoken

Also I have just purchased the pes universe option file (as don't have the time this year to edit) has anyone received any information regarding it apart from a confirmation of order email

I just turn off the commentary. :D
I know. It gets repetitive fast. But it also adds. It's just a bad fix.
This was in the Demo, dry one half then visible rain in another.
What do we have to set up in weather options? Dry or random? Will it stay dry all the time with dry setting and can random start dry and then it begins to rain?!
I have informed my boss that I am extending my leave by 2 days. . . . Guess who will be working through Christmas holiday
Your PlayStation!! :)

Only things I would like is the animations for some shots to have a more realistic animation rather than shots that are toe pokes and not as pronounced, even if just a bigger thud sound was there just to let you know there was serious contact, same with headers they feel a bit light, what I am saying is there isn't much feedback to the player.

Other than that I am really getting on great with it and tactically its fantastic with real differences being made by changing things around, very tough too on top player with master league, started off with a 4-3-3 but was getting ripped open every game with ease, now gone back to a solid 4-5-1 which is ok but I need to be better on the ball to create space and chances, very deep.
