So I tried lowering the opposition defence line to 5 yesterday and I must say, it changed the game a lot. I feel games are better now, midfield is open and the number of times your one on one with the GK has reduced.

Can someone else for example play against a team with defence line 5 (or change it yourself) and see if you feel the match is better? Ensure it is 5 on all game plans 1-3.

Quickly, and concisely, PES 2014 is a fantastic game of football. All of my main issues on the pitch, mainly player-switching and shooting, can all be rectified with a simple patch. It's quite amazing to me that such a tour-de-force could attract so much negativity. Maybe the PS3 version is broken, but the Xbox version offers a fantastic game of football. I'm six games into my ML on professional. 4 wins, 1 loss, 1 draw. My 0-2 win against Juventus just had a different aura about it. It felt more important than the other matches.

I think if Konami get everything right in regards to future patches then PES will win over most of it's critics.

P.S And has anybody seen Honda's face? Fuck...the detail.

I found the opposite to be honest, Advanced Shooting never gave me the power I was looking for. Hence the reason I switched to Basic.

It is very hard now to score from distance, not impossible just very hard.

I've only scored a couple myself, but I do prefer this, and find it more realistic and rewarding.

Pushing R1 just after charging the power bar really helps, you can make real missiles.

Thanks to those who suggested playing the 1.00 version, it makes a huge difference! Honestly, I love this game, but once I updated to 1.01, I stopped having fun, I just can't explain why, but the game felt more unresponsive and boring...

I'd be more than happy if they just fixed one of the bugs, the lack of responsiveness.... especially for close on-touch plays.... and when the player receives the ball in the box, half the time they just don't shoot (no matter how much you press X), they just "dance" with the ball (very much much like in the slow-motion scenes in matrix:)) instead of simply shooting the ball.... how annoying...

Despite all this complaining,I insist that I can't remember having so much fun with a football game as with this PES 2014. I loving it!

I'm unsure whether to buy the full game... I really like the demo and haven't had much trouble with regards to bugs etc but do they become apparent with the longer matches and increased playing time? Are there bugs in the full game that weren't in the demo? Keepers in particular have been fine but I've read a lot of bad stuff about them!
If you're on xbox, go for it!

I was in the same situation like you couple of days ago. Yesterday I bought my copy and BOOM! 10+ hrs played for the first time. If you liked the demo, you'll love full game. 10 minutes matches, you will finally get to experience what its supposed to play like.

It's been said, there's no difference in demo vs. full game but for me in full game I experience less frustration. Sure there's couple of glitches per game but I take it easy. No football game (even in real life) is perfect. GKs are rather good than bad. Faces could be fixed tho.

I don't think this was a bug. They couldn't have tried harder to knock him off his feet. The animation on it was brilliant

They've done that really well, attackers and defenders fighting for the ball. So satisfying to hold off the defender and then pull free and shoot. I don't think I've encountered that bug either.

Pure placebo, no gameplay changes was in 1.01 patch, just online features.
Enjoy the game. ;)

I think that's rubbish to be honest. There is a difference between the two, in my humble opinion. Unless you can decompile the source code and prove there are no gameplay changes (good luck), you're not stating a fact. Konami can say 'no changes' all it wants - that doesn't make it true.

does anybody know how to do the classic PES turn-and-let-the-ball-run-on-rather-than-take-a-touch? Used to be R1 and the direction the ball is running!)

A million times this. I can't believe this move is not in 2014. Maybe it's possible to manually do it with Super Cancel.

Fuck, this game is good. ...Like...really good. It's clicked. You've never been able to play football like this in a game before.

There are no gameplay changes between the two exe files. There. :P

Man man man this game rocks! I've just won a trophy, the Copa Lib with my fictional created team, great atmosphere in every game! I love the physicality of the game - dropping a shoulder - dribbling past the defender- he comes back at you - use the right stick and shrug him off - lovely stuff!!!
Scored a few crackers too, some lucky, some planned!!! Magic
I'm planning to defend the trophy moving from Proffesional to Top Player. Great great game. Aside from no image imports on Xbox ..... Musn't grumble!

I'm so disappointed about the state of online. If you get a good game it's excellent. If you get a bad game it's terrible. Lag exacerbates the response problem and ruins the already cumbersome defending system (not that it's normally bad, but it is very cumbersome at the best of times; requiring much forethought). Next time you experience lag online, get your striker or somebody on good form and just run at the opposition. They basically can't tackle you and it works both ways. Defending just becomes non-existent compared to when there's no lag.

Plus, I can't tell anymore if both players are defaulted to the same settings. I used to think so but I'm not sure anymore. It feels too much like people are abusing lofted through-balls and from my experience that's only a problem using basic. I'm set to advanced when I host games.

+1

Exactly right, it's as frustrating as fuck at first because PES or FIFA, we've only really ever played variants of arcade stimulants before. This game you have to think, no option but think, before you build up and attack, etc. play back passes and switch the play like never before. Draw in pressure, play short-short-long passes. It's a beautiful game. It has it's faults but the best footy game ever I think.

I'm on PS3... I just love the passing system and the way the game plays this year :)) Last year the patches ruined it a tad for me - V1.04 spoilt it and unfortunately you cant roll back to a previous version unless you uninstall the whole lot. Hope that doesn't happen this time!

- fix fouls or lack of it
- fix manual heading
- fix online no lag and advanced throughball and manual pass bug
- fix keepers response
- fix replay lag
And its football gaming nirvana Konami

Been playing a few games tonight and even loving it more.

Played loads of south American games and loved the passing of the opposition and played a few with European teams like galatasary and marseille against people like anderlecht. It just keeps throwing up excellent games.

There should be some kind of party on here given what we have been through over the ps3 years and then ended up with this

Defensive Line - 5
Attack/Defence Level - 5

Try it. I don't tend to concede from through balls since using this approach, only in laggy games where I cant switch to the appropriate defender quick enough to stop an obvious give 'n go.

Still concerned that too many goals are down to keeper errors or pure luck. Shooting still doesn't feel satisfying to me, aside from the nice little toe poke animation to slip it past in a 1-on-1.

Where's this talk of a lack o fouls deviating from? What game are y'all playing? Seems like every slide tackle for me at least where i make any smidgen of contact with a player after i clearly win the ball is a blazing foul.

Feel the love people.

Anyway had a wonderful session with Rennes yet again, will upload a brilliant solo goal from Danze my right back soon.

Just discovered that Heart plays a gigantic factor in the game. Gigantic. it's completely replaced Form arrows as the main factor. Heart seems to determine now for the most part responsiveness and mentality, the players aren't all faster or unrealistically superman but they keep going for longer, their heads stay up and they stay responsive all game if their heart is at the maximum.

Best example my last two games before I watched Arsenal smash Napoli live at the Emirates today! O ZILL!!!!! TO THE ARSENAL!!

enough of that.

Best example where my two victories away to Lorient and at home to fellow title rivals Marseille. My team all had heart at maximum due to my great run off form, haven't lost in i dunno about 10 games and riding high. I was having a very tight game away from home vs Lorient, no great chances for either team cancelling eachover out essentially, both teams having 4-2-3-1 with two sitting DM's, not mcuh space to play with or creativity from either side, then thanks to a small mistake Lorient then played some good stuff and managed to squeeze in a goal. Now from then, I didn't change anything, my attacks weren't great kept breaking down but I kept going forward and trying. Lorient changed formation, I wasan't sure what their new system was, it didn't suit them as much, I pounced, managed to start making more and more chances and eventually got a good equalizer.

It hit me, at the beginning of the season even when i beat lille 2-0 away from home my heart was hit and miss through the side, I had very few chances, hardly any possession and really struggled all game, was quite lucky Lille missed a few chances, most prominently in my mind was the losses to Toulouse and especially getting thumped and thoroughly outplayed by Saint Etienne 3-0. My heart was low, very low, i noticed when you heart is low, players seem to give up easier, they seem slower and less responsive. Keeper, this is a big one which I'll expand on, they don't seem to make crazy mistakes when their heart is high.

Lorient switched back to their default system but my momentum was set in, managed to score a last, last minute goal with the main man Ibarbo, L2 Manual shot smashed into the corner. Great feeling, again the mentality to come back and win was only possible with heart, to keep pressuring, looking to score.

Now the next game at home vs Maseille was a wonderful game, won 2-1, first goal was one of those realistic goals you like seeing in video games, took a hopefully shot from 25 yards, deflected and lopped over the keepers head, despite all the bugs with keepers, there was nothing Mandanda could do:

http://imageshack.us/clip/my-videos/534/ps8jgrwibdjblksiamyucz.mp4/

after this goal, going back to the heart, my team, the crowd just seemed inspired, despite Marseille being a much better, technical team and keep the ball better, we attacked with such force and vigor, scored a wonderful solo goal with Danze, my team felt invincible. thinking back to earlier in the season when my team didn't have so much heart it was fitting Danze my captain scored that goal, through he has shown the most bottle and has had the heart when nobody else looked interested.

YouTube - Rennes Master league Goal from Danze

Now finally with heart. Defensive AI, towards the end of my season teams in general have raised heart levels,t hey all defend better despite the player run bug, they keep a line well, the spot offside better and allow your DM's to tackle more by effectively holding up the attackers I'm seeing little to no silly goals when you just tackle the defender run in and score. keepers especially, not seeing any madness which I usually see in exhibition mode where heart is random. Mandanda made this absolutely outstanding save from a header, I will upload for you, this must be again a factor of heart.

YouTube - PES 2014 another great save by Steve Mandanda

I'm happy to say this game isn't just a rough diamond but no, it's not nearly as flawed as I first thought it was.

No doubt in my mind the game was originally build with dozens of stadium in mind. Unique cutscenes, tunnel intro, background in team selection, personalized favourite team, free training feature real-life empty stadia.

But for some reason the game end up with only 19 stadiums, for all these little touches it simply didn't add up.

I also believe that heart builds up if you keep possession. One match against a stronger team they scored the first goal at 5 mins, but then I started to keep possession, passing around my own half, until chances started to show. It looked like the opponent got tired of runing and started to rest. I slowly took advantage of this and after a couple of half chances, my goal was finally scored. Then, opponent team went crazy and did everything to score again but all they did was passing mistakes and wrong shots. 1-1 final result and it felt sooo good!

This game is amazing on how real it can be sometimes.

Konami had at least 31 stadiums in mind, it's been found there are 31 slots ingame for them, plus two in the Bombanera and one from Saudi Arabia.

Must be the other generic stadiums and maybe Dragao, also i'd say about 5 stadiums from Spain.

Not really important, tbh. If you want that stuff there's FIFA. It would be interesting to see how much better the day 1 game would be if they didn't bother with Master League, BAL, stadiums, faces etc.
