PES 2012 Football Life thread

I don't know anything yet about training, apart from the value of conditioning training for up to three days before a game. It drastically improves player form leading up to a match. Other than that I've been rotating the other training but tending towards technique, again each one I choose I only do for the first half of the week before going to conditioning again.

That's interesting about teamwork, I'll take a look at that. I never noticed there was a specific teamwork stat to be honest. If that improves with game time and regular team mates etc then that's awesome.

I remember from the older pes' that each player had an individual teamwork stat and then you could check their teamwork with the rest of the team which both improved with each game they played together, at least Ithink i remember this.. Whether its still the same I don't know.. Though training tactics definitely had a big impact on the teamwork stat, but it also is the one with the largest decrease from other training by the looks of things.

Finished my second season as Liverpool. Claimed the lot, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, UEFA Champions League and UEFA Super Cup. Andrew Carroll got the Premier League's player of the season, after netting an impressive 33 times in the season. Mats Hummells also got into the Premier League's team of the season.
Into the next season, and no-one arrived during the transfer window and only Fabio Aurelio left, to Inter Milan for £8,500,000. In the 2013 UEFA Club Football awards, Lucas was named UEFA Club Footballer of the Year. 4 games into the 2013/14 Premier League season and i'm top of the league, level on points with both Manchester City and Chelsea, but having a superior goal difference. I've been drawn into a quite easy Champions League group, with Lille, FS Mainz and Benfica.

My current managerial record stands at:
-Premier League: 1 (2012/13)
-FA Cup: 1 (2012/13)
-UEFA Champions League: 1 (2012/13)
-UEFA Europa League: 1 (2011/12)
-UEFA Super Cup: 1 (2012/13)

Why is Shimizu so good? 94 overall, passing stats both 88 accuracy, dribbling speed and accuracy floating between 84 and 87 depending on what is trained
He scored a goal for me against Aston Villa with a beautiful dribble, megging the villa right midfielder, used the speed burst to pace the full back, fake shot past one CB (left sliding to the ground looking like a tool) dribbled past the other CB before a lovely R2 shot across the keeper in off the post as the left back slide in vain to clear.. He's my favourite player in the prem so far.

And Krhin has 11 assists so far playing in his new told behind Giroud who had 12 goals in 14 appearances, aided in no small terms by the 4 he got at newcastle.

He is your Master League 'Gimme'. He is there to give you a great head-start, whether that be to utilise within your team, or to sell, like I did, to reap the financial rewards. It's no co-incidence that he his Japanese either.

Makes sense, I'm thinking of shifting him either midseason or end season.. His constant moaning is getting on my tits rest him for a game, he's upset.. He wants the number 10 shirt, give it to him he's still unhappy.. Seriously short of giving him the club and saying you run it then I have done everything and he's still unhappy! Plus as far as I remember he declines fairly rapidly between mid to late 20's and so getting a fair amount now would help. Anothe pro is that without him I can utilise Ramzi in his more familiar SS position with 3 CMFS in a 4312 formation and bring in a striker, taking pressure off of Giroud up top.

By the Jimmy how's your current season going? Haven't heard much on it front you

I never had him in my Youth Team, but I did get a player called Palmhurst who is an 88ovr straight out the youth team at 16 years old. I do agree with you though, there does seem to be a Master League 'gimme' each year, last year I recall there being a player call Palmieri (sp?) who was a very good CB in the youth team.

Can someone give me hints on training please? xPJRx told me once but I still don't get it. I see my assistant telling me about changed but how do I know which player and what stats were affected?

Palmieri is the pick-me-up for your defence usually if you start in Div 2, he's there now.. Just toned down a bit, I have him now in fact. 80 overall almost better than Coloccini.

I'm not sure how it works fully, seems that your team overall is affected but even if something decreases from the team if you check the players individual stats you will notice gradual changes, mainly in the younger lads.. For example for me it showed that as a team my overall technique had dropped by one while speed had gone up when training speed, but only certain players had gone down, namely Utaka and Coloccini who are ageing a bit and are more vulnerable to decrease..

It's pretty much take a guess, throw the dice when training, and see of players improve or not.. Paying too much attention to the team stats wont help much from my experience..

Hope this goes some way to helping.. But it probably won't ;)

You have to check your individual players to see how much their stats increased after the specific Training. Each player will increase differently based on their age and development curve. There is a scientific formula to the Training, but like everything, it's trial and error.

As an example, right from the get-go I concentrated soley on Technique. This gave my players a great boost across the board on stats such as Passing Accuracy, Shooting Accuracy and FK Accuracy. Concentrating on Technique though had a detrimental effect on Physical. So although my players had excellent accuracy, my power stats as in shooting and overall player strength were low. After I reached a level of Technique across the board, which was 80+ on the Overall Team Stats, I started focusing on Physical. Now training Physical didn't have a detrimental effect on Technique, hence my remark about the scientific formula.

During my 4th season, about half-way through, I realised that my Training had plateaued. I couldn't increase one area without losing in other areas. This was down to the fact my players had reached a certain level. So, for the remainder of the season, and my subsequent Promotion Run-in, I concentrated soley on Condition. This worked perfectly, I had players fit and great Form Arrows.

I want to start a ML but it was so fucking annoying last time.
Anyway you can get rid of cut scenes, annoying coach telling me the same thing and whining players??

You could whore the x button (or Xbox equivalent) when it comes up.. Problem is if you don't listen when your players turn into whining bitches then chances are you will have a lot of player leaving on free transfers

Mid season, and Hull City sit 8th in the table, just outside the Europa League spot with 24 points, 4 off Spurs.
Our top scorer is Giroud on 13 goals in 18 games, enough to place 3rd in goal rankings behind joint top Ibrahimovic of Liverpool and Aguero of Man City on 14 goals each.
While Krhin has 13 assists from 17 games, while Ramzi is impressing from the left Wong with 9 goals and 3 assists in 15 games, Krhin's assist record is enough to lead the league by 3 assists above Valencia of Manchester United and Huddlestone of Spurs both on 10.

In the January transfer window so far I have concluded a deal to bring in 16 year old 93 rated Farinos for £712k from the others list, while Shevchenko 54 overall but 70+ stats in all key striker areas except pace and Salihamidzic 60 overall but with strong stats across the board come in from the youth squad.

Farinos will replace Gueye in the Centre of midfield, despite his better overall Tiote is a lot harder in defence and I don't want to lose that.

My other target is a young centre back called Cirillo also from the others list he's 16 and 75 rated

J. Thomas leaves for Newcastle for £715k, while Hull City hero Utaka looks likely to leave on a free after beig frozen out and replaced by Giroud and pushed down the pecking order by Shevchenko and Schwarz.

Also decided to bring in Sorlin from my youth set up, the french man is 57 rated but at 16. Years old with passing stats already pushing the low 70s he will be a good asset for the future. And a 16 year old Heskey can only improve any side right? Signed from the free agents, hope to make a quick million or two off him in the future. And missing out on Cirillo means I'm done in the transfer market for now.

I'm 11th in the league by the way bud, 5 points off a European spot with 15 games played. I've had very little time to play of late, looking forward to getting a good session in tonight though.

I'm just skipping through the cut scenes, so many players moan every time they're dropped that I just placate them and lie, saying they'll be picked in the next game, then never do. Seems to fool them, oddly. But I just look at the communication screen as I skip right through most of the cut scenes with my coach. Wish there was a way of turning them off.

As for training, I'm doing okay so far splitting a week into three days of one specific type, then three days condition training right up to the match. My player form has drastically improved since and stats seem to be slowly increasing.

The players Moaning is so pointless.
They moan and you can just fob them off.
Would have been better if when you gave them an answer they didn't like they requested to be put on transfer list.

Also why can you only speak to 3 players when 5 want to speak to you. How stupid.

Classic calendar issues coming up. I have a friendly on Tuesday but there are international games on Wednesday. How stupid is that????

Because the other two don't require a response. They were probably just happy to play the full 90 minutes.

Middlesbrough's first game in a couple of weeks, saw them travel to Upton Park to take on a useful West Ham side that had already exceeded early expectations. It was a very tight affair with Boro have the better of it, and securing all 3 points courtesy of a 25 yard drive along the deck from new signing Asamoah.

Next up was Manchester Utd at Old Trafford. In a suprisingly fairly even encounter, Giroud was denied by the woodwork on three seperate occasions. Rooney then put the hosts ahead with a cheeky back-heel into the bottom corner. Hernandez then made it 2-0 with a stunning volley from just inside the box. Boro pressed but couldnt break down a stubborn Utd defence.

Boro then made the journey south to take on Fulham at Craven Cottage in what was today's Match of the Day. Fulham scored first early on, a header was spilled and the follow-up stroked home. 1-0 Fulham. Giroud then equalised with a stunning free-kick bent beautifully into the far corner. 1-1. Boro then took the lead after Giroud struggled to get the ball out of his feet for a clean strike. His effort was easily parried, but Carlos Martins was on hand to pick up the scraps. 2-1 Boro.

Boro then extended their lead after a lovely passing move was smashed home, on the volley, courtesy of Rabiu's right boot. A lovely manual and R2 high pass was floated into the box, Giroud flicked it on with a deft header, and Rabiu caught the volley perfectly in his stride. 3-1 Boro. Giroud then added the icing to the most sweetest of cakes with a stunning long-range lob. A clipped pass in the air from Martins was taken beautifully onto his left foot with an R2 Volley-Turn. Giroud then shrugged off his marker, spotted the keeper off his line, and chipped the Fulham No.1 from distance. Stunning, simple stunning. The game ended 4-1 to Boro, with three truly spectacular strikes.

The last game of the night saw Boro host Spurs at the Riverside. A sloppy opener gave Spurs an early lead. It stayed that way until Giroud bent his 2nd free-kick goal in as many games into the far top corner in the 73rd minute. 1-1. Spurs then re-took the lead within the minute, as Bale charged forward and after his initial strike was saved, the rebound fell lucky, and he finished it off second time around. 2-1 Spurs with 15 minutes to play. With 5 minutes left, Giroud equalised with a beautiful turn and shot from the edge of the box, right into the far corner, (R2). Boro then took all 3 points in injury time, a hopeful 60 yard pass from centre-back Kantari (PinPoint Passer) caused problems for the Spurs back-line. The Spurs No.1 tried to pass to his CB, Martins read the pass, intercepted and then chipped the red-faced keeper. 3-2 Boro and that's how it ended.

Thanks for the tips, but Jimmy, how do I know if my player, e.g. Welbeck has improved? I can't remember every player's stats every time. Is there like a comparison sheet? Or something that shows me his older stat compared to his improved one?

I'm not sure if there is a Growth Chart bud. I just tend to keep an eye from time to time on every players most important stats. As in, the stats they require for their role and position.

Unfortunately, you can't track players' development progress on individual stat basis - up/down stat arrows are gone, as well as 'join date' stats :/

Konami need to reinstate this, was a great feature of past PES's.

Only thing you can look at to gauge development now is the growth chart, tab to page 6 of the player bio and view his line graph. not massively insightful though.

Love the last two goals in the first video, Jimmy. The cross, nod-back from the target man, and then the volley was pretty sweet. And the final goal was amazing. Was that the L1 chip shot?

Oh, and back to my ML, I've started far better. I lost a couple in a row which was a tad demoralising, but then I pulled off a tactical change that affected my Benfica team in the best possible way. In fact, game by game, I'm able to eradicate a lot of my issues. For example, I was getting hammered in early games by through passes, so reducing my defensive compactness down to 6 really closed up those gaps and has tightened the defence up in that respect.

In my last game though I realised that I was being a bit too ambitious, my diamond 4-4-2 formation saw the two wingers and AMC with base positions on the formation screen that were simply too advanced. It worked in PES2011, not so in this for sure. On the pitch, I could see that the CPU was able to play little passes between my midfield and were getting space in the hole between my defensive midfielder and my other midfield players. So, I adjusted their base positions to a flatter 4-4-2, pulled them back to just over the halfway line, and it was as if I hit a tactical 'sweet spot'.

My players were far better positioned to combat the midfield areas and when I attacked, they seemed to spring into life a lot more. Running into space in advanced areas is a lot better than getting there too early, and ending up standing around like they used to do.

Anyways, I comfortably won the game 2-0 to take me up to a giddy 13th in the table with my second win in three games. Shimizu, who had been poor all season so far, was the main beneficiary of my early tactical change, and was like a player transformed. He opened the scoring with his first for the club, with what practically felt like a wonder goal compared to the lack of ability the rest of my ML players have shown. He nipped into the box, dribbled round two defenders before slotting it home past the keeper.

Then, in the second half, Maqualao, who is currently on the left of midfield but with his role set to AMC so as to get into more centrally advanced positions (and because I have no-one to play on the left of any decent ability), got into the box, and took advantage of an awful defensive mix up, reacting to a backpass to slot home.

A win and a clean sheet, a rarity!

I love that Shimizu goal, it looks class the way he dummied the initial pass by jumping over it then collected the return. His jinking run looked so natural and his finish was subtle and brilliant.

The second was fortunate, but it's nice when those rebounds go in your favour.

I really liked the 3rd goal in the Fulham game as well, I spotted his run behind Giroud and his deft touch was perfect to set up the volley. The last goal was a maxed out L1 lob. You will notice the CPU keeper 'cheating' quite a lot, by that I mean standing outside his area to shut down the angles for a long-range drilled shot. It does leave him open to the lob though, and as long as you get the right player with the right foot, you can pull this off. It's my favourite type of goal in this PES, mainly because it's the most deliberate strike, and also it was never possible from that range before.

In a 4-4-2, player positioning permitting, it's nice to go 3 CMF's and an AMF. The two CMF's played wide and one sitting deep with an AMF pushed on. I switch to this to hold onto leads, as it's a solid positional setting. Works well with players with the Free-Roaming Card as well.

LTFC - good stuff mate, on the up!!!
what level you nplaying on?

Also love the fact your playing with the classic ball. Im not usually bothered by boots and balls in the game but must admit i love using a ball with a prominent pattern on as you can see the spin on the ball and the flight it takes much better.

Another thing I forgot to mention, and this constantly brings a smile to my face. Towards the back end of last season, with Giroud on fire, I had this thought of how much I'd love to have a specific chant just for him. Obviously there isn't one, or so I thought. Anyway, I was inserting some chants for Norwich as I had a game against them at Carrow Road. One of the chants was labelled 'Come on Yellows', so I stuck it in. During the match I heard this chant that sounded nothing like Come on Yellows', but 'Come on Giroud'. I couldn't believe the likeness, it was identical. So I inserted it into my Boro chants immediately, and it sounds awesome.

Last night when Giroud stepped up to take the FK the chant kicked it, it was so surreal, and even more so when he stuck it in the back of the net. Class. :)

Quality, I deffo recommend adding custom chants to the game, I have assigned 4 chants for every premier league team and it certainly adds to the atmosphere.
Playing Liverpool and hearing them chant "Steve Gerrard, Gerrard, he smashes em from 40 yards...." or "you dirty nothern b****ds" when playing at Bolton spices the game up and draws you in more.

Where do you get your chants from Jimmy? I found a good website that has thousands on, all free, I used the generic EPL chants and the MK Dons specific ones for my fictional Milton keynes FC ML team.

Don't forget to cursor switch to your CB (pushing the right stick in the direction of the player you want to control works better than L1 for the most part) when you feel a counter-attack coming. I take control immediately off the ball and track him back, this almost always stops any killer passes through the middle or over the top. Just let your CPU team-mates cover the ball-carrier whilst you take control of a player sitting much deeper. It's a great tactic for off-the-ball defending.
