PES 2011 Discussion thread

Ah, ok, I see, the demo will have to show if advantage-rule is in or not, I actually liked the yellow-sign of PES 5, but I know we will never see that again.

You described how you fouled when you were the last defender tracking a player... did it result in straight red card? In real life football being the last defender fouling results at least in a yellow card but can also mean straight red card, what was it like in the game?

It wasn't a card at all, my back four were in line with me and I was in front of the forward backing away, I pressed to lunge in but knocked him off balance, it was just a soft foul thats all, if I slid in on him from the side or behind and missed I think it should have been a yellow or red.

That way it shouldn't be a card, sounds good.. I thought you were tracking an opponent from behind being the last defender before the goalkeeper, that way it should have been a card, possibly even direct red.

I have a question regarding animation, yes I know questions about animation were already posed and answered and in the preview you said they were flawless but I need an answer to my specific question to calm my nerves:

In the gamescom-build-videos when running some or even most players would put their back forward in an ackwardly looking stance, I hope you know what I mean, it looked quite unnatural to me... how is the running-animation in the final-build?

And in the gamescom-build we saw Robben but he didn't move like Robben, you know his style, with his hands up and a bit over-cautious, in the gamescom-build he moved like any other guy.. how is it in the final build?

Nothing stood out to me,what I hated about 2010 was that horrible straight back knees up high sprinting animation with the ball seeming like it was a yo-yo, on this there is more movement in general and it didn't look unnatural to me, to you it may well do though.

I should have tried more teams to be fair but I got carried away in my Master League, I think Bayern are in the demo? could try him on that but I would be surprised if individual player movements have been captured on this version.

i played about 30 games in the online beta, yes there have been some problems, high passes suddenly went 90 yards and some other little things but the game has huuuge potential,
cannot wait for some 2vs2 online matches!

oh and guys do you think they will keep showing a replay after EVERY foul?
that is a bit too much imo, yellow and red card yes show it but normal fouls i dont know...

all in all good job konami so far, game feels new and fresh!

I know exactly what you mean, great to hear that there is more life and variation to it..

Thanks for answering all my questions, I'm delighted.

Technically FIFA looks great on videos, it really looks amazing, when playing though I feel disconnected and bored, when I score I am just not bothered, when I score on PES I react differently.

I almost want to cry with joy hearing this. I feel the exact same way when playing FIFA, so what you've been sayin on here is music to my ears!

Is ML any different in 2011 or is it exactly the same as 2010?

I think it is the same but the main icons seem to be like the main menu is set out, across the bottom of the screen with some screenshots of your team in various poses taking up the larger portion of the screen, I think it is just the same in terms of what you can and can't do though, nothing was pointed out by Steve as a new feature.

I barely scraped the surface on last years ML though before going back to other versions.

Is slide tackling massively different from previous games? Is it harder to pull off good (slide) tackles, is it more rewarding when you slide in and win the ball?

I used them to great effect on the beta and they were used well and had a hook element to them but on final code I don't think I even attempted one, I was so focused on trying to evaluate the new defensive system.

Darn, I'm sure if they were useful in the beta then they will be just as useful in the final version

Thanks again Darth. Have a good sleep :TU:

Are the defenders more alert when the oposition have a free kick? ie does a player break and attack the ball when it hits the wall?

Also my pet hate, When a player changes free kick set up does the defending player dissapear from the position you put him in and can they close a short pass free kick or do they stand still?

I'm having withdrawl symptoms at the moment:shiver: Can't believe it's been nearly a week since the BETA finished!!

I did not like it no, as a game itself it played ok but for me the animations killed it, I had to buy the PS2 and Wii versions to try and get that fix, then ended up just playing PES5 and 6 on my PC again.

Also it helped that I loved NHL 10, NBA 2k10 and MLB The Show to pass away time.

Oh and I don't want to score it, it was just a preview from 4 hours play, in a couple of months we will see where we are with it. :)

you know football when you see football, unlike some here. thanks for your feedback. fantastic.

How are the long balls in the final build?
In the online beta they seemed to go way to far & goal kicks kinda looked unnatural.. Did they change that in the final build?

I didn't see the wall react like that, I did get alot of free kicks and only scored one, the keepers and row z dealt with the rest

I only played AI so cant comment on the wall changing.

I hit a few to Saha and they are less powerful, managed to smash one out of play from the opposite wing using manual though.

The alertness is something I like, when I hit a speculative long ball diagonally across to the corner flag it immediately triggered Saha's run who out muscled the defender to reach the ball first.

DarthKebab, really appreciate the feedback. Especially since you've outlined your criticisms as well, seems much improved compared when compared to your Beta impressions which has a fair few negatives. A lot more clearer than the usual 'WOW, JUST WOW THE KING IS BACK!!!' types we seem to get every year.

Just a couple quick questions, do you confidently feel it's a superior game to FIFA 10? Did you prefer FIFA 10 to PES 2010 last year? Could you give a comparison how much it's improved in terms of other games progression, or is it much to early to say?

Since you've not slept yet, here's a few ;)

Which speed where you playing on?

On ML, have you noticed if "team history" or something similar is back? It wasn't in 2010.

No problem, I played FIFA 10 for a good couple of months and found it tough at first but once learned I found out about how to exploit the game and draw out the full back creating space, for me though just like World Cup it just wasn't fun to play, no satisfaction in the shooting, when you score you want to be clenching your fists with a "get in" not stop your player running into the goal so you can press a button to cup your ears or do a breakdance, at least the WC game sent you away from goal.

Even when I played PES2010 I got more satisfaction from scoring a goal despite the animations telling me I should be thinking otherwise.

But to the original question, this game is better than FIFA 10, but for me that isn't difficult as I thought that was terrible, it just stands on its own, as I keep saying, time will tell just how good this is.

I just had a power nap to remove the headache, it worked!

It would have been the default speed and it felt fine, more pes5 than 6.

I didn't see Team History, if I knew I could have gave impressions before I went in I would have asked you guys for q&a, it was just at the end he told me it was fine to write up.

It's a trick question watch out :P I hope you think PES 10 was an abortion of a game; not very encouraging when people openly state they liked PES 10 and love PES 11.

I find that to be quite an offensive comment having spent an enormous amount of time learning, mastering and fine tuning my play in PES 2010. I've given it enough time (which I'm not sure most have) to know what I'm talking about, albeit in my opinion. The fact that I like 2011 as well as 2010 disqualifies me from giving a valid and trustworthy opinion?

If anything the fact you seem to bypass a lot of its strengths and think it is an "abortion" of a game makes me question your opinion :/

The only way this can be settled is via the old fashioned way.

I challenge you to a duel........

Not a real one but a match in 2011!

I'm just gonna look over the fact that PES 10 had the most horrid animations ever seen in a footie game, barely any collision detection, and a few other niggles..

The passes felt unnaturally driven with no swerve and sometimes little control over where they went. Defending in that game consisted of 10 players huddled around the center portion of the penalty box waiting for the ball to land from a cross.

Konami responded to the abuse of fake shots by removing the animation itself all together; the shots themselves felt slow and heavy and not only were the keepers borderline mental but apart from parrying shots they also liked to stay behind the goal posts during shots in the worst of cases!

The defenders and unskilled players were handicapped by having an extra animation where they would do this weird foot drag with the ball every time they did a turn.

And the button delay what is up with that, I've had so many wasted opportunities when the player refused to hit the ball mid air.. maybe he was lacking the animation all together...

Go on, bring up one good thing about the game that ain't individuality..

Dont take offence bud, like I said before, some people look but they dont see, there is nothing we can do about that. ;)

John Murphy- @fabiof2x yes - 8th - but that's in Europe

Ok I'm about to have an aneurysm.. the demo isn't out in the states on the 8th as well??? noooooooooo....

Edit: Is there any way to make your account a UK account, like I can on the xbox 360? :(

Jimmy you're probably more mature then most of the members here (older I reckon too) and I'm glad you see stuff in PES 10 that most people don't, like myself, but I honestly don't care if the game captures the spirit of football because as a videogame meant to be played it is a technical mess.

PES 11 isn't where it is now cause people thought PES 10 was just ok, Konami knew straight up that it was crap and it was gonna lose more fans.

Mate, how are the crossing animations? Are they the same boring ones or do they vary?
