Wow, he's throwing in the towel early at only 28.

He used to play at the Gulf until a few years ago before he came to France with Lille anyway.

So for him it's not even the first time, he choose easier routes for lots of $$$

Raúl González (Real Madrid) ---> Schalke 04 :)

Worst move ever...why does he want to have a bad (last) season in an avarage team, in an avarge leage...sorry germans. I thought too he is the living loyal legend of Real :CONFUSE:
I hope its just a loan, Raul should play his last game in Bernabeu.

Perhaps Raul just wants to continue playing regular football? Let's face it, he's not going to get much play time at Madrid with the form of Higuain, and the likes of Ronaldo and Di Maria about.

I don't think it's an odd move really (if it actually happens). Schalke are a big team that play in front of 60,000 every week and finished second in the Bundesliga. Champions League football awaits. A good move for an ageing player in my opinion.

Absolutely. And where could this be considered being disloyal to your big love? Schalke has no relation to Madrid or any of their rivals. If he's still got it in him he can play top-level football for two more years or so. Would be a good move for sure.
On the other hand: Magath is no joke. His training is pretty merciless. Wonder if Raul will "survive" that. ;)

However, this transfer is far from being done as far as I know.

Yep. He played here for a year then moved to Al Sadd for 3 years before moving to France. And now back to Al Sadd where I think he enjoyed his time the most.

Also if somebody is calling Schalke an average team and Bundesliga an average league, then I'm sorry but all I can say is   :LMAO:

But it is a weird transfer. I didn't see it coming at all. But considering how cheap he will be to bring in (not wages) and how little $$$ Schalke has, I guess it's not too surprising they opted for an experienced CL campaigner.

how come german teams dont do well in the champions league for the last 10 years?

If your basis of how strong a league is purely on the 3-4 teams at top (15-20% of the league) and their cup-performance in CL rather than the whole 18 or 20, that make up the 100% of it and all the other factors that need to be taken into consideration, then, that's a fundamental error and nothing further can be said really to fix that view.

Bundesliga as a whole though, without doubt, with everything considered from strength of top, mid-table, relegation battlers to attendances which are highest all around Europe, to their coaches/managers/ tactical discipline, youth development (which NOW many are starting to see) to stadiums/pitches/ marketing, organization, stability of the financial system and clubs, sponsors, the WHOLE f'n deal, EVERYTHING considered is truly one of THE very best leagues in the world and also on an upward spiral and ever improving. The word Average and Bundesliga simply don't belong in the same sentence. Because if Bundesliga is average (median) then 95% of other leagues in the world apart from perhaps 3 others must be pure CRAP then (which in reality they're not, many of those are average) since the rest are not on par with the German's top division. Calling a club like Schalke 'average' is of course quite amusing in its own way as well but not as unforgivable.

EDIT: But anyway, I also always wanted to see Raul stay and FINISH his career with Real Madrid :/ Not thrilled about this at all. Felix Magath and Raul are both geniuses though and know what they're doing.

How come you forgot Bayern winning it in 2001, coming just short this year and Bayer Leverkusens 2nd place in 2002?

Also: What PLF said. :)

And: German clubs are BOUND to work with what they have rather than feeding off the money of sheiks, oil-tycoons or just corrupt politicians (in some cases ;))
