The coolers on PC graphics cards and processors are probably more effective than those used in consoles.

There are some Small Form Factor PC cases. The BitFenix Prodigy is quite popular from what I've read, for example.
The Alienware x51 isn't much bigger than a 360 and the upcoming Steam Machines appear to have crammed high level graphics cards into console sized cases.
They do. I have one and never had heat problems with it either.
None are as small as the PS4
My PC is smaller than a PS4. I have a Dell Hybrid. I haven't got a tape measure on me but I'd say my PC is def smaller. If I'm wrong I'm wrong but from just looking at it I'd be surprised if I was. Anyway...
Yes it might be smaller laptops are smaller than the PS4, but none have the same power graphically as a PS4.
The PS4 doesn't have any proper airflow throughout, it is just a big heatsink and fan, but the fan is just cooling the heatsink so where does the hot air go apart from just linger around like a bad fart.
Blows out the back like the PS3 (and a fart) doesn't it?
You need something to move the air through the console.
PlayStation 4′s Airflow Affected By Horizontal and Vertical Positioning
They should have gone all out and worn bikinis. Wait, how old are they, could I go to jail for suggesting that?
Does it sit flat on the desk/table or is there some room underneath? Thinking of putting small rubber pads onto the corners of mine so it's raised to allow air underneath, when there's a "grey" stand available I'll probably buy one and mod it so that the side that's on the bottom still has air coming into it.

It sits flat, no bumpers or anything to give it even the slightest lift.
But I think people are more worried about heat than they should be. I've regularly got up and checked my PS4, resting a hand on it and a hand on my cable box that sits next to it, and they both felt equally warm. Also, my unit is sitting on shelf that has a back to it (something I intend to change), so airflow isn't even as efficient as it probably ought to be.
The caveat to that is I was only playing FIFA, and the game was already installed. It might run hotter during the mandatory installation.
I think that as long as you don't have a defective unit - which is probably insanely unlikely - heat isn't much an issue. Still, you can be sure I'll be paying attention to my unit at least for the near future just to double-check.
**Edit: Also, that link mentions the PS4 being wobbly when sitting horizontal. This is not an issue at all for me.
I have a pS3 slim and it's very quiet, even when the fan turns on. How does the PS4 compare to that?
Anyone know of anywhere getting stock on the 22nd as my boss now decided he wants an XB1 too.
Places which don't do pre-orders probably; supermarkets, perhaps.
