Next Gen Consoles

The main issue is people talking about 1080p 60fps as though that is true progress. It's not progress at all. It's the same old tat with fancier graphics.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The main problem I have with the notion of PC gaming, is the fact it makes me a PC gamer. If I put a PC in my lounge I might as well lop off my genitalia there and then. I'll have nae cause to use them.

FINALLY someone else has said it. I hate he extra frames in The Hobbit, and I hate the look of 60fps in games. It's a completely unnatural, weirdly smooth quality takes away all the cinematic quality. I love that The Last of Us was 30fps, going 60fps would have totally removed the atmosphere IMO.

Personally, I'd rather see the PS4 go with full 1080p, 30fps and that might leave more room to add more detail to make games more beautiful. I've never understood the fascination with 60fps, I've tried it on friend's gaming PCs and frankly don't care if it is milliseconds more responsive. I went back to my PS3 at 30fps and didn't notice any difference in control whatsoever.

Some games need to be in 60 fps. FIFA/PES, Racing Game in 30 fps ? really hope not.

Read it again silly.

Well I was trying to be kind to the XB hardware and blame the OS/Kinect and the memory it reserves for them (as stated in the article), but when it comes down to it he is basically saying they couldn't get a 6 year old engine to run at 1080p/60f because the box just doesn't have the power... :P

You read funny

You guys did read the same interview didn't you?

Here are a few quotes:
"...Fortunately, both Xbox One and PS4 are very much like PC, more so than the last generation. That helped enormously."...

"...Working with the theoretical hardware would have been a disaster if... honestly, the hardest thing to deal with is not the architecture. It's the OS (operating system) of the systems. ..."

"...One of the greatest challenges the engineers have to deal with is memory management, or thread management. There are X number of threads in your CPUs. Where in those threads is the stuff that's Microsoft or Sony? Where does it fall? How does it work? We don't have the SDKs for those features yet, and then they come in and you go, okay, well it needs 3MB of RAM - oh, crap, we only allocated two!..."

"... We tried to focus in on 1080p, and if we felt like we were on borderline of performance somewhere... We tried to make the best decision for each platform that gives you the best-looking game we could get and maintains that 60 frames a second. ..."

"...It's very possible we can get it to native 1080p. I mean I've seen it working at 1080p native. It's just we couldn't get the frame rate in the neighbourhood we wanted it to be.And it wasn't a lack of effort. ..."

"...First launch, first time at bat at a new console is a challenging one. That's just the way it is. For people fearful one system is more powerful than the other or vice versa, it's a long game. ..."

What did you guys read?

From eurogamer comment section

Saw this about guys arguing which console is better.Found it funny.

A guy from the comments section of this news article walks into an electronics store. The salesman says "Hey welcome to wherever-the-fuck, what brings you in this afternoon?" Comments guy says, "Actually, I'm in the market for a brand spankin' shiny new HDTV!" Salesman says to the guy from the comments section of this news article, "Okay, great, you've come to the right place, we have two to choose from. This model here which is 720p and this model over here which is 1080p." Comments guy pulls a dumb face and asks, "Which one is better?" Salesman says, "Most people agree that the 1080p version looks better." Comments guy pauses for a minute and inquisitively looks over the opposing sets, painfully mulling over this tough decision. The salesman asks "Do you have any other questions I can answer for you?" Comments guy says, "No, I think the decision is an easy one, I'll take the one that's 1080p." Salesman says, "Good choice, it's a hundred dollars cheaper."

I was semi joking Tik, but what I get from the quotes you mentioned;

The below two quotes are talking about both systems, so I don't know how these say anything about how less powerful the xbox is?

"...Fortunately, both Xbox One and PS4 are very much like PC, more so than the last generation. That helped enormously."...

"...Working with the theoretical hardware would have been a disaster if... honestly, the hardest thing to deal with is not the architecture. It's the OS (operating system) of the systems. ..."

The below quote proves that they are still learning both systems and how much power they can allocate to different things at the moment.

The first two quotes below seem to imply that the that they tried to get 1080p and 60fps working but felt that it looked better with what they did.

The end quote is key as it basically says that at the moment they really don't know for sure what is better etc and we will have to wait and see.

"... We tried to focus in on 1080p, and if we felt like we were on borderline of performance somewhere... We tried to make the best decision for each platform that gives you the best-looking game we could get and maintains that 60 frames a second. ..."

See Tik, so although I understand where you are coming from, you were talking like the quotes you mentioned were definitive proof that the Xbone just doesn't have the power, but I read it completely different that it may have the power and possibly does, but they won't know until they have much more time to learn and figure out things.....:DD

Which is why you either wait a while to choose your console, or take the safe bet of a PS4 now. In my mind, exclusives aside, the PS4 will peform as I want it to. I don't know if the XBone will and I am not waiting for a year or two to find out, and then get a next-gen console.

Dreamer bobby and his Mayboxone...

For me I don't mind waiting, my wife wont let me get one for a while anyway :PP :)) by then we will know and also It doesn't bother me much if it is not as powerful as the PS4.

If it isn't as powerful why get it? Not having a go, just genuinely curious what anyone has seen of the XBone to make people go for it over the PS4. Am I missing something?

Again not being an arse, just curious to see what peoples reasons are. I normally get both main consoles each generation and will probably get an XBone sometime, just see nothing now to make me go for it, as I am a gamer, first and foremost.

Social arena. Most of my friends are on XB360, and are seeing the XBO as a natural progression. I have a 360 and a PS3 but use the 360 primarily for gaming with friends whereas the PS3 is for media.

Now the XBO has everything I need.

I'll still get a PS4 but not on launch.

I can agree with that, I have both current consoles but only use PS3 for exclusives, every cross-gen title I get for the 360. I think it's more user friendly, and the pad is miles better.

But I feel it's now a clean slate and think PS4 would be better in the near future.

No problem,

For me the online is great, even though I am paying extra for it, it is a great service and one I literally have had no problems with (Trying to remember back, but I can't remember any at all and I have had it for years!)

I like the whole integration of media/games etc and think it looks great. Being away from England the skype feature and being able to hook up with friends on skype aswell while I watch programmes and games will be great.

I have a network of friends I have already built up on xbox.

The pad I really like much better than the old PS3 ones, yet to use a PS4 of course, but I just like the xbox one and fits me perfectly...hopefully the new ones are the same.

Also kinect, I know most people take the piss out of it, but I quite like it and if it is that much better then bring it on I say :))

I literally can't tell much difference between the frame rates/ 1080p stuff etc and I am guessing alot of people that buy either console will nto tell much difference either. I am guessing people that really REALLY care about that stuff will want to be a PC gamer anyway.

But again after saying all of this, there is a part of me that wouldn't mind a change and my decision on getting a xbone isn't 100% and I will see what they both bring to the table after about 6months when hopefully the ball and chain will let me get one :))

A few of my mates who went to the XBox events over the last week or two have said the controller is fantastic, although the rumble feature is a tad OTT. If it can be toned down they claimed it's perfect.

However, it does depend on how big your hands are I guess, as the new XBO controller is smaller than the current gen version.
