Anderson Silva has told UFC Dana White that he can forget about trying to match him up with UFC light-heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida.
White told the post-UFC 101 press conference that he could “make that fight happen”, but Silva started shaking his head immediately.
“These two are friends but it is not about friendship, it is about competing to find out who is the best,” said White. “It is no different to a basketball game or a football game.
"If Anderson gets to that point where he starts taking out 205-pounders, I promise you I can make that fight happen.”
Silva butted in with an immediate refusal.
“Lyoto is my friend, he is my brother and there is no way that fight will happen,” he said, adding with a laugh, “Not just because he is my friend but because he would be a big problem for me.”
White just smiled as Silva’s words were translated, but the UFC is notoriously short with fighters who do not wish to fight their friends or team mates and there is a potential White/Silva conflict down the road.
The UFC president also took the time to repeat his opposition to Silva facing former boxing champion Roy Jones Jr.
“I just don’t see the point,” he told reporters.
However, any such disputes between White and his middleweight champion are in the future. For now, Silva has rehabilitated his image with fans who had rounded on him after has last two uninspiring performances.

Silva was fucking brilliant Loved the way he danced around and the arrogance from him, superb stuff
Not a bad event but the first few fights were pretty shit, very one-sided. Felt sorry for Sadollah as I didn't think the ref needed to stop it there, he certainly wasn't defenceless and Hendricks didn't even seem to be really connecting for all the wild swinging he was doing.
Penn was too good for Florian. He never looked in danger of losing to be honest.
Anderson Silva - WOW This guy is scary! Seriously scary. I think he could probably beat Machida for the light heavyweight belt and have that too. I can't really see anyone at Middleweight that is capable of doing him damage. Maybe if GSP stepped up to middleweight that might be a good fight?
News about the loser from the Silva Forrest fight (So obvious spoilers here)
News from one of Forrest's trainers.
"His jaw was dislocated very early in the fight...then he took several more punches to the jaw. Apparently he can't hear out of the ear on that side either. He left the octagon because he needed medical attention asap. At first they thought his jaw was broken, then said it was dislocated."
