Microsoft Xbox 360

any early adopter is going to have this issue..

Agree, but at what point is the "early adopter" cut off point? It will have been out for 2,5-3 years if this rumour is true, thats half its cycle. Not really an early adopter situation anymore. I consider that to be the 1st year and then you get the "cheaper" versions with tech development. Not even ones with added hardware functions.

I just think that it leaves the consumers with uncertainty. If they do add the HD player into the basic hardware will they eventually also allow games to be played on it? Probably not, but its possible if games end up being so big that they can only do it on hd discs (sandbox games where you don't want to be switching disc all the time for different area's). We dont know for sure, probably by that time a newer xbox will be out anyway, but it still gives some question marks.

I had worse problems than ever last night - the blades kept locking meaning I had to restart, had loads of problems connecting to any games of FIFA and COD4 - and then when connected to COD4 it kept freezing and disconnecting.

They can stick their free game, I just want the service sorted out, thats what they should be focussing on...

Dear Xbox LIVE Members:

During this past holiday season you helped us break a number of Xbox LIVE records. This included our largest sign-up of new members to Xbox LIVE in our 5 year history and just yesterday you broke the record for the single biggest day of concurrent members ever on the service.

As a result of this massive increase in usage we know that some of you experienced intermittent Xbox LIVE issues over the holiday break. While the service was not completely offline at any given time, we are disappointed in our performance. I would like to take this moment to thank each and every one of you for your patience and understanding as our team has worked around the clock to return the service to a stable state.

At the same time we would like to offer a token of our appreciation to all of you in celebration of record success for the service. And as a thank you for your loyalty during this holiday period, we will be offering all of our Xbox LIVE members around the world access to a full Xbox LIVE Arcade game that will be available to download free of charge. In the coming weeks we will be sharing the specific details of this offer with you.

Thank you again for helping make Xbox LIVE everything that it is today!

Sincerely,

Marc Whitten

Which shit free game are we getting :)

This is bollocks because they are saying we are getting the free XBLA Game because of our loyalty to them over the holiday period?! Which is fucking ridiculous because we should be getting the game because their service is unacceptable and they won't admit it.

That is actually incredible :applause: I have read the whole making it diary on the author's website. Incredible :salute:

ITs amazing - I wish I could do shit like that. even if I tried to replicate what he done - it would come out Super Shit!!!!

He could sell them easily - I would buy one (Depending on the price) - I suppose he would have to charge a fortune though, with the Man hours involved

CES: Microsoft Teams With Telecoms Giant BT

Microsoft has announced that it is joining forces with leading telecommunications firm British Telecom to allow UK Xbox 360 owners access to BT Vision, which offers a range of on-demand media content over the internet.
The partnership will enable UK BT broadband customers to use an Xbox 360 console to access the BT Vision service and its library of on-demand digital content, which includes movies, TV shows, sporting events such as “near-live” FA Premier League football matches and music videos.

Xbox Live, which Microsoft earlier announced has passed the 10 million subscriber mark, will be integrated into the service to allow users to use existing community features such as voice chat and text messaging, as well as access to Xbox Live Marketplace, while viewing BT Vision content.

“For the first time consumers in the UK will be able to experience the advantages of an advanced TV service together with the benefits of next-generation gaming,” said Dan Marks, CEO of BT Vision, who labeled the upcoming service a flexible, “compelling connected entertainment experience”.

Enrique Rodriguez, corporate vice president of the Connected Television Division at Microsoft, added, “This is an exciting moment in home entertainment… Together we are enabling BT Vision customers to be the first in the world to enjoy this next-generation TV and gaming entertainment experience.”

BT Vision is powered by the Microsoft Mediaroom Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) platform.

Angry Texans have marched to court and filed a lawsuit against Microsoft for its shoddy Live performance over Christmas.

The probably-cowboys claimed the platform holder had misrepresented itself and breached its contract through negligence.

"Microsoft knew the increase in subscriptions would increase game-play on its servers, yet failed to provide adequate access and service to Xbox Live and its subscribers," read the filing.

The trio of accusers are reportedly asking for around USD 5 million in compensation, which sounds like rather a lot given that they would just have been killed and mocked by a bunch of teenagers anyway.

Late last week Microsoft popped its head out and offered Live Gold subscribers one free XBLA game as an apology for connectivity issues over the festive season, although it's not yet clear whether you will be able to choose your game or simply get what you're given.

It also did its fair share of New Year boasting, after it boosted its worldwide Xbox 360 sales up to 17.7 million.

Rumor: Xbox LIVE Server Problems Cause Achievements To Disappear?
>> From ripten.com:
As if the recent Xbox Live issues hadn't caused enough problems, it now appears that you can actually lose an unlocked achievement as well.

Basically, while attempting to "fix" Xbox Live, they've systematically been rolling back and recovering portions of their servers to weed out the bugs. Again, this is not the "official" word from Microsoft, but the guy on 1-800-4my-xbox said that's what was going on. He seemed to know what I was talking about when I told him my issue, so that leads me to believe he's not just making stuff up.

Now, for my problem, what I need to do is get another achievement on Guitar Hero II in order to update my account. Unlocking a new achievement should re-register my previous achievements, and re-unlock the one I'm missing.

What if this missing achievement was the last one I could possibly get on the game? What would they do then?

I'm not sure Goldeneye would be too good in today's era. When it first came out, it was incredible. Multiplayer (the cave level was brilliant) was superb and I'll always remember having a ball on both single and multiplayer.

But I don't think it'll play too well these days unfortunately :(

I still play PD on my N64 now with a few mates on slow mo. I always used to pick Odd Job on PD he was so short it was really hard to shoot him.

I've got Perfect Dark Zero but never played it. Just before I bought my Elite, I got a few cheap games so I had something to play. But when I bought the console, I got a few games I wanted anyway. So never got around to playing PDZ. Any good?

Goldeneye blocked

gamesradar said:
A month ago, an anonymous user of the Penny Arcade forums who claimed to be a Rare employee disclosed an overwhelming amount of information regarding an special tenth anniversary edition of GoldenEye 007 set to be released for Microsoft’s Xbox Live Arcade.

This special edition supposedly included, among others, the following features:

* Flawless recreation of the original gameplay. The game used the original code, running on an Xbox 360.
* Solid 60 frames a second.
* High definition graphics with the option to switch back to the original N64 graphics any time.
* Four-way online split-screen multiplayer, with the option to see what the other three players can see, even over Live.
* New multiplayer maps, including the single player Dam, Depot or Frigate levels as multiplayer arenas.

According to the same source, this amazing edition never got the green light because Nintendo put pressure on Activision so they wouldn’t let Microsoft use the Bond licence.

Technically speaking, Activision doesn’t need Nintendo’s permission to do anything with Bond, but given the original release of the game and their good relationship with the Nintendo, they decided to play fair and ask first. Apparently, Nintendo’s CEO Satoru Iwata simply said “no” to any form of GoldenEye in any console but their own.

Activision then denied the use of the licence to keep their good terms with Nintendo.

The funny thing about it is that during the bilateral negotiations between Microsoft and Nintendo, the Japanese were offered the possibility of getting the rights to release the original GoldenEye 007 for their Virtual Console in exchange of their blessing for a special edition on Microsoft’s Xbox Live Arcade. Rumour has it they didn’t like the deal, which was, in any case, beneficial for everybody. Including their users.

So basically Nintendo wants GoldenEye. Microsoft wants GoldenEye. Rare wants GoldenEye. Activision wants GoldenEye. And players yearn for GoldenEye. But thanks to the first ones, nobody gets GoldenEye, unless Microsoft or any company without strong commercial ties with Nintendo obtains the Bond licence someday.

This wouldn’t have been the first time an insider published something as important on Penny Arcade, but there isn’t any way to prove its authenticity except for two reasons. The first is that all their information matches perfectly with the logic behind Nintendo’s announcement back in 2006 and recent comments on the cancellation of GoldenEye 007’s remake as published in the latest EGM magazine.

And the second reason is a picture that the guy uploaded.

Yes, there is a picture allegedly taken from GoldenEye 007 for the Xbox 360 online. And if anyone is already considering the possibility, no, it’s not from the Half Life mod currently in the making by fans. Whatever that picture really is, it’s something else.

Judge for yourselves.

Bloody Nintendo, Goldeneye alone is better than the shitty Wii.

I remember that screenshot, I remember having to go into a side room for something or other, and there was a guy to kill who was having a shit on the toilet

Yeah that was a great game, had hours of enjoyment with that. Never thought the multiplayer was much though, guess playing on a 14inch screen with 4 "mini" screens didnt give much sight.

Goldeneye and Perfect Dark were IMMENSE games on the N64.

My fave level, "The facility":
