Microsoft Xbox 360

Yep ive seen that before mate, I am on there somewhere... my 360 isnt happy with me because I didnt play it online for over 2 months! Got my Elite back on the 28th December and it took an update and it seems to be alright at the moment (touch wood!) The problem is it takes fookin ages to show anything once it signs into live, but I was up until 2 am this morning and the problem eased up and it was coming up in 5 seconds rather than 30 odd!

Problems with Live, Hargreaves. It's taking a bit longer to sign in and show the blades than normal. Been like this for a while now, since Halo 3.

Oh right... I didnt realise it had been as long as September! when I used my parents internet at the beginning of November I didnt have any problems. The only time ive seen it is since the Dash update recently.

Well, it hasn't been as bad as it has been lately, but there's definately been a performance hit since Halo 3. Major problems cropping up from November onwards.

My 360 Voice shows:

Longest streak: 9 days

Rumor: MS to Compensate Gold Members for LIVE Downtime?
>> From thebitbag.com:
I got some info from my Microsoft contact after questioning whether or not Gold Members will get thrown a bone for all the downtime they had to sit through. While nothing has been officially announced, they have stated, "...we will definitely be doing something for our Gold members that weren't able to get online over the last week."

Rumor: MGS4 in Development for 360, 12-14m after PS3
>> From xboxfamily.com:
No, the rep will not be named, but this is pretty concrete. Speaking to a Konami rep at an undisclosed distribution meeting, I was told, after a lot of nagging, that yes indeed MGS was in development for the 360. The rep stated that Metal Gear Solid will be released for the Xbox 360 between 12 to 14 months after the PS3 version hits shelves. This is not a rumor.

I contacted Microsoft's own John Porcaro via email shortly after I spoke to the Konami rep to see if I could get anything from Microsoft's public relations team. Below is the response I received. Needless to say it's the most I've ever gotten out of MS PR team member.

"Thanks for the heads up, [name removed]. For anything that resembles any shift in strategy, or product announcement, or even news of something happening with a third party, we're always going to stick with "we haven't announced anything about " Every day we see rumors, most false, but some true, and we can't confirm/deny everything out there for any number of reasons.

I appreciate the note. I certainly will share everything I can, and I'll often rattle enough cages to get to an acceptable answer. In this case, there's really nothing we can say other than the obligatory "no comment.""

If that Rumour on CVG about adding a hdddvd player into a new sku is true, its getting a bit ridiculous. First the core/premium, then the elite, then the arcade and then the "elite HD". Surely continually releasing new console sku's cant do the consumer any good? Its not a PC MS! Its not even just the early adopters, I bought the thing a year after release and have already seen two new sku's released, Ive had it nearly 18months. Halfway through its cycle and its on its 5 sku, and 2nd hardware change!

Following a number of connectivity issues with the Xbox Live service over the Christmas period, Microsoft is to offer all its subscribers globally a free Xbox Live Arcade game as a "token of appreciation", GamesIndustry.biz reports.

The announcement was made by Xbox Live's general manager Marc Whitten on the Major Nelson blog - Whitten explained that while the service was never completely offline, the team was "disappointed in our performance".

The statement went on to explain that the issues were caused by the "largest sign-up of new members to Xbox Live" in the service's five-year history, and while the game is not offered as compensation for the problems, it's instead being billed as a "thank you for your loyalty during this holiday period".

Details on the offer will be made available in the coming weeks, and at this point it's not clear if users will be offered a free choice of game, or whether a specific title or selection of titles will be pinpointed by Microsoft.

The statement also noted that the holiday period also saw the largest ever number of concurrent users to the Xbox Live service, something which - when coupled with the latest Xbox 360 console sales numbers - make it a promising start to 2008 for the company.

So, Becanes seems to think the reason I can't get games on FIFA and Poker is to do with my connection and not Live. How can I find out if it's my connection? My ISP is rubbish when you phone their support section.

I wont be buying a new one, unless my currrent one breaks. But historically consoles are the same for the whole generation meaning when you buy it you know that it will be good for the rest of the generation. From a games perspective this is still the case, however imagine you bought a xbox recently and then a couple of months later they have a better one for a small extra price. You would be pissed off. I personally arent that bothered by it as I only have the box for the games and don't want HD discs yet, mainly because MS continue to disrupt which one will be the winner. But I could imagine it's not a pleasant experience, the premium vga vs newer hdmi is an example where you just didnt know and were getting a slightly inferior console for the same price.

So my prediction of a free live game was true :)

I am going to start a thread so we can all get the same game and play it together on live

Nope and if its anything like that thing we had before where we signed up to something and we got a free game it will be shite... the games on offer on that particular promotion were fuckin shite and not worth bothering with!

I'm going to stick my head out and say it will be a choice of games, and the games will be the games priced at 400pts. Which leaves about 5 games? And pretty much all poo.

I think they should credit everyone's account with 800 M$ points.

We are paying 10p a day for this service and it's not working!

10p a day, you make it sound like we're being unreasonable!

£120!!! every three years. That's more like it!

It was a bit dicey last night (guide froze constantly, had to restart my xbox about 5 times) for me but alot better than it has been. Hopefully everything will be back to normal now

I wont be convinced til we hit around 10-11 tonight and its still working as it should be, thats usually when it goes tits up

Take a look at DagsJT's "Need help/advice on connection issues with XBox Live" thread in the Technology Forum. It's having a lot of problems.

Or do you mean specifically today?

So what exactly is happening with Xbox Live, all I've been hearing is "its broke" from mates...

Large numbers of people bought 360s over the holiday period and everyone is using their one month free trial at once. Servers seem to be overloaded.

A bit worrying that Microsoft hasn't resolved it fully yet and been a bit quiet about it though.

no difference between that and the tv industry... any early adopter is going to have this issue..
