Microsoft Xbox 360

65nm 360 chips in production 'last two quarters' - 45nm on the way

Though we're pretty confident the Xbox 360 price drop is coming sooner than "this Fall" – more like August 12th, if you want to be specific – we've had the entire Fall season marked on our Microsoft Executive Swimsuit calendar with "65nm chips" reminders. Those weary of the dreaded RROD have been looking forward to the smaller, cooler (and cheaper!) chips being included in the new systems, codenamed Falcon, but the extremely paranoid may want to hold off for the 45nm version.

"As 65nm just started production in the last two quarters, you would expect 45nm to [begin production] about 18 months from that timeframe," said the President of Microsoft manufacturing partner, Charted Semiconductor. That means production on those new even smaller and even cooler chips won't begin until late 2008, early 2009. If that's too long to hold off, take comfort in knowing that those 65nm chips have been produced for some time, and should be making their way to retail Xbox 360s soon (astronotip: Fall starts on Sept. 23 this year, so mark your various themed calendars).

Dynasty Warriors 6 also invading Xbox 360

Through previously announced for the PlayStation 3, Dynasty Warriors 6 has now been been confirmed by Koei as coming to the Xbox 360 as well. The prolific series (DW6 is actually the 19th entry) has previously seen an Xbox 360 release with Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires.

Images from the new game show gorgeous new visuals and a draw distance that, unlike most of the DW iterations, extend beyond 15 feet. Otherwise, it looks like Koei is sticking with the same (albeit successful) formula they have used for seven years. A teaser trailer embedded after the break; Dynasty Warriors 6 is due out this fall.

Is it true that if you don't get your console back in the time that they promise you then you can claim compensation from them? A friend mentioned it to me at work today. They received a game, a remote and 3 month gold subscription because her partner got his late.

If I don't get mine tomorrow then it's gonna go over 25 days.

I think the compensation is if they don't ship it back to you within 25 days, not if you don't receive it within 25 days.

This list is too good to be true, seems a home conversion of AfterBurner Climax is too good for even a rumour list.

Never played Shenmue, really looking forward to playing them to be honest.

And the Half-Life games as well, didn't play those (for longer than 5/10 mins) so "The Orange Box" collection that's coming out soon for 360 (Half Life 2: Episode One, Half Life 2: Episode Two and some other games) looks great as well.

Today is the 25th day and I haven't got my 360 back. Disappointed and pleased in a way. I've just been on the phone to them. They said they'd compensate me for it. I've gotta call them back on Monday. I wonder what I'll be able to get out from them.

You should get the same pack as your friend, ASM.

By the way, while I'm here, someone buy Pacman C.E. from the Arcade!! I want someone to challenge my high score. :)

Most definitely get your time on Live back and more. They have been generous with some people in the past.

Got my console back!

Called them regarding the compensation. They gave me a list of games (just 4) that they could offer me. PGR3, Perfect Dark Zero, MotoGP '07 and Viva Pinata. I was pleading with them (not enough to make me sound like a saddo) for something better, but they wouldn't budge. I chose MotoGP.

It's going on eBay as soon as it arrives.

:lmao::applause:

Moto GP 07 is the new game, unless he heard the wrong year.

I immediately wondered that too when the woman said MotoGP. I asked her which one (new or old). She said either, so I chose the '07 one of course.

Well done lad, aint seen any review scores, but they arent bad games the MotoGP games, just depemds if u like the bikes or not I suspect.

did you say '07' or did you say 'the new one'?

Your console been sent for repair too?

The person that I was on the phone to mentioned MotoGP. I asked her which one she was referring to, the '07 one or the '06 one. She said I could choose either the '07 one or the '06 one.

Near future XBLA releases announced

Microsoft's GamerscoreBlog has posted the Xbox Live Arcade games they expect to release in "the next several weeks." Almost all the games we are quite aware of, especially the delicious and addictive Puzzle Quest -- even if the AI is a cheater. Yes, we know the developer swears it doesn't, but we gamers know better, right?

The expected games are:

Ecco the Dolphin
Hexic 2
War World
Geon: Emotions
Puzzle Quest
Space Giraffe
Streets of Rage 2
Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix

Place your bets now on what order they'll release in. And if you want to catch up on the season finale of Hexic 1 before the sequel starts, you can always find it for free on your local Xbox 360. The plot is really deep and engrossing.

This Wednesday: Track and Field high jumps onto XBLA

track-and-field-xbla-490px.jpg

This Wednesday, you can relive your glory days of high school track and field athletics with Konami's Xbox Live Arcade offering of ... Track & Field. Mash buttons for that 100 meter dash record; hit the button at the right time for the long jump; or press the button in time to jump those hurdles. It's all the glory of your youth – minus the awkward dates and unfortunate facial blemishes – for the low asking price of 400 Microsoft Points ($5). Invite your old high school buddies along for the ride with 4-person Xbox Live multiplayer support and determine, once and for all, who the best athlete is

Even at $199, Rock Band: SE for 360 lands on Amazon's bestseller list

rock-band-360-se.jpg

Remember all that talk about how Rock Band would have a hard time selling those pricey accessories? Apparently, it won't be so hard after all.

The Xbox 360 version of Rock Band Special Edition -- including the game, a drum set, a guitar and a mic -- for $199 is crowdsurfing in online retailer Amazon's bestseller list for video games. As of 8:00 p.m. ET yesterday, it was ranked 10th, though it was 4th place as recent as yesterday afternoon, reports Punch Jump.

On the list of Xbox 360 bestsellers, the game currently ranks 3rd; for the PlayStation 3 bestsellers, that version is currently ranked 9th. While not as great as Best Buy's $60 screwup, it certainly beats Gamestop's previous $300 estimate (now also at $199).

Halo-themed Xbox 360 coming in Sept. for $399, wireless headset for $59.99
halo-3-360-console.jpg

Master Chief's coveted special edition 20GB Xbox 360, initially seen at Microsoft's E3 2007 press conference, is coming this September for $399.99, which is now $50 more than the Premium console. With that extra Ulysses S. Grant, you get an HDMI port, a headset, a Spartan green-and-gold finish (for console, controller and headset) and a Play and Charge Kit, according to the press release. The non-proprietary HDMI cable is sold separately.

Additionally, Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg has told us that the Halo wireless headset will be priced at $59.99 and will include some quality improvements over its predecessor. It will, presumably, also be deployed in September.

It's official: Xbox 360 price drop coming this Wednesday
360_pricedropofficial.jpg

In the wake of leaked flyers from what seems like every major retailer in the country, Microsoft is finally ready to come clean on the Xbox 360 price drop announcing today a $50 cut on the main console (known informally as the Pro or Premium model) from $399 to $349. The price drop – scheduled for August 8th – is timed to coincide with the August 14th release of Madden NFL 08, one of the three titles that would have made up Microsoft's holiday hat trick (before GTA IV pulled out of the race early). Noting the staggering 624 day stretch since the console's November 2005 launch, Microsoft's Mitch Koch said, "The fact that we have been able to keep our launch price longer than any other console while retaining our leadership position demonstrates that consumers believe in the value of Xbox 360."

It's not just the Premium system getting its price axed. Just like the flyers promised, the Xbox 360 Core will drop $20 to $279 while the Xbox 360 Elite (which should now actually be available in stores) will see a $30 drop to $449. In a brief chat with Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg, we had a chance to ask about some of the lingering questions surrounding this price drop. Greenberg was quick to point out this decision was timed to coincide with the launch of Madden and not any cost-cutting measures on their part (read: 65nm processors); however, they wouldn't cite specific details on the components. The Premium console is seeing the largest price reduction since it enjoys the largest percentage of sales, at 80% of all Xbox 360 consoles sold. Specific bundles, like this Table Tennis bundle, are retailer specific and not "channel-wide" according to Greenberg, so don't expect to walk into any old box store and pick one up (that one is Circuit City specific).

Rumor: Target done with Xbox 360 Core model
targetxboxcore.jpg

Although not mentioned as part of today's Xbox 360 price drop announcement, more evidence is coming in that the Xbox 360 Core model may be finished. An employee of a Target store took multiple images (sadly the clearest one is above) of the store's PDA showing the Core model as "discontinued" in the "status" bar at the top right.

This follows last week's Best Buy information that the Core model was finished there as well. The stories are starting to stack up. We've been told by numerous sources that their various stores haven't stocked Core units in a while, this all feels identical to the way the PS3 20GB death occurred earlier this year.
