Microsoft Xbox 360

Bought my new TV, plugged the 360 VGA lead in, plugged the red and white audio cables in ... no sound :( I'd need a converter to use those leads with the headphone socket? I think I'll just buy a HDMI lead instead.

what tv you got?

how many red and white audio connections you got on the tv, as only one red and white will be paired to work with the vga connection or there will be a setting in the menu if you only have one red and white?

anyway which tv then we can see

Toshiba 32AV615DB.

There's a red and white socket, plugging into that does nothing. And there's also the R&W as part of the component, again does nothing. Got R&W on the side of the TV too ... nothing.

Yep, had it connected to my monitor a couple of hours ago, had the sound cables going into an audio switcher with a shitty pair of speakers plugged into the headphone jack. So the cable is carrying the sound okay.

the two connections on there own on the right side, thats if your lookin at it from behind the tv are the ones for the vga connection (the ones next to the hdmi connections http://www.home-entertainment.toshi...esAndManuals/Manuals/2009 AV615 Presenter.pdf)

it should just be a matter of pluggin them in there and it switch to the channel and it should pick it up...

if it doesn't work, then test something else out of those if you can and see if the connections are not dud

I've got a pair of Turtle Beach X3's which also use RCA cables for the wireless adapter. Now I've plugged those into the red and white ports on the back of the TV (which I've just noticed are in the component section) and the audio comes through fine on my headphones. The headphone plugs going into my TV also have a female slot where you plug in other RCA cables into them so you can have both the headphones and TV/whatever into the same socket.

Except it doesn't work :( It just seems weird that the audio outputs will give me the sound through the headphones but nothing through the TV speakers.

when you select a channel/source such as vga it will only be able to output from the vga and the audio that is paired to it, in this instance the two that are to the right of the component audio jacks
are you deffo trying the corrent RCA sockets for VGA the ones above and below each other on there own next to component

also it might be worth checking your settings on the tv, either under audio/sound or inputs

Just plugged the headphone plugs into the side audio ports as well, and the sound comes through great on my headphones there as well, nothing through my TV though again.

Checked for any audio settings in the menu, nothing apart from the usual bass adjustment etc.

So the ports are fine as they're giving out sound and my headphones are picking them up, but for some reason the TV speakers wont output it?

maybe the headphone splitters are at fault>?

have you tried them on another tv or have you tried using something else to output sounds directly from your vga audio ports?

if you are connecting your xbox vga audio leads to the headphones then this will output it, but then you are connecting the headphones to the tv ports of the vga as it has a splitter, if that is the part that is failing to output to the speakers, maybe that is the fault? or it is the vga audio connections on the tv, try connecting directly from the xbox to them if you havn't already

if i have got the wrong end of the stick then don't blame me i should be asleep

My audio splitter isn't connected at the moment with the new TV, I used it when I had my PS3 and 360 both setup, with both consoles RCA connections going into the splitter and there was no problems with my 360 sound then.

At the moment I've tried the VGA RCA leads direct into the TV, and connected through the headphone adaptors, and I can't get sound either way. But like I say, the headphone adaptors work regardless of plugging them into the back audio connections (component) or the side connections (which is the s-video connection I think).

Those are the headphone adaptors. Plugging those into the TV is great, sound is spot on. See the female part where you plug in your normal RCA leads? Plugging my VGA leads into there doesn't do a thing, as if they're not plugged in basically. Headphone splitters definately aren't faulty as I had my gaming chair connected through them a few days ago, sound came through to my chair fine.

when did you last have the vga audio leads working?

are you sure there not at fault?

see my link above http://www.home-entertainment.toshi...esAndManuals/Manuals/2009 AV615 Presenter.pdf to the pdf file of your tv, it has 3 different audio connections, component, vga audio and your side panel ones

you need yours connected to the pc input/hdmi 1 audio ones that are the two on there own, i would also plug the xbox leads into the other audio inputs and chose the correct source on the tv and see if it outputs audio from the tv

bed time soon

Dags, if it's like my Tosh, the red/white go into the red/white sockets by themselves on the back (PC/HDMI1 audio). The setting you need then is in AV Connection (not audio) - look for PC/HDMI1 audio, it needs to be on PC.

The PC/HDMI audio is a single white input socket (next to the VGA input), which leads me to think that I might need the 3.5mm adaptor now. There's nothing in the menus which lets me choose any kind of different output for any particular connection.

Looks like there isn't any way around this apart from buying the 3.5mm adapter. There's only the single-input PC/HDMI white socket, then there's the component inputs which I imagine will only work if my console is hooked up through component, then the side s-video connections.

take a pic of the back of the tv if you can, as it should look like the image on the pdf link i sent, as thats the same tv (supposed to be)

I have a 26" Samsung and if I want the Xbox sound through that then I have to connect the red/white from the Xbox VGA cable into this adapter that I got with the VGA cable:

Then this plugs into a 3.5mm audio input which is right next to my VGA input on the TV.

Not a problem for me anyway as I use digital optical for Dolby Digital 5.1 :)).

Dags I own a pair of Turtle beaches and they don't seem to work well with VGA cables! I don't know why but I've been told as well that it has something to do with the Beaches.

I'm going to put my 360 on HDMI now, but I do need that adapter because my X3's still need to connect to my TV output so I'll plug the X3 connectors into the adapter, and plug the adapter into my headphone jack.

Simples :)

Microsoft will officially cut the price of the Xbox 360 Elite to £199.99 tomorrow, 28th August, and has confirmed the 60GB Pro model will be phased out.

The Xbox 360 Arcade will move to a higher £159.99 price than at present and will not be officially bundled with software as it has been recently.

Over in the US, the Elite will sell for $299.99 and the Arcade for $199.99.

The Elite will no longer ship with a bundled HDMI cable.

Last week Sony cut the price of the PlayStation 3 to £249.99 / €299.99 and announced the introduction of a new slim unit, due out imminently, which features a 120GB hard disk - the same capacity offered by the Xbox 360 Elite.

HDMI should be in the freaking bundle. If i had to make the choice right now, i'd say all the way PS3, u get a nicer package for the same money.

Agreed. For £50 more you get a Blu-Ray player, wireless out of the box, pads that charge from USB and not needing to buy a charge kit, upgradeable HDD and free online. Not to mention it's much better as a media player.

Easy choice for me if I was looking to buy a new console.

I don't see why MS don't just get rid of the Arcade. It wasn't even worth £130 without the HDD, but now £160? Behave.

Weird moves by MS. Not really a 'price cut' when you take things out is it! I know its only a HDMI cable, but people not really 'in the know' will go and buy one from a high street store (probably where they would buy the 360 from) - and I've seen HDMI cables for £50 in Bennets!!! Probably minimum you would pay in somewhere like Comet is £25.

I got my HDMI cable for £4 from Ebay - and never had any 'quality' problems.

Then to RAISE the price of the Arcade with no games is madness.

As you say, PS3 looks like a no-brainer in the run up to X-Mas - now the consoles have comparable libraries, no reason to get a 360.
