Those are some good tips Taylor, thanks
I've finished my first season of ML, I had some incredibly annoying and frustrating matches towards the end of the season but I scraped through, nipping into the final Europa League spot on the final day of the season. One out of the seat moment happened though in the second from last game, where I needed all three points or else the Europa League spot was out of reach, and was held at 1-1 until 39 year old veteran Minanda came off the bench due to an injury, and duly glanced home a 92nd minute winner to keep Marseille's hopes alive;

The win kept me in with a shout until the final day of the season, where a convincing win over runners up PSG secured the European place. Dramatic stuff!
I turned a season round from starting with 0 wins from my opening 11 matches, to a final record of 19 wins, 12 draws, 9 defeats. and fifth in the table, level on points with three other clubs and in Europa League place on goal difference.
What I really like about ML is how it manages to have all the league tables reflect their real counterparts. All the teams end up finishing where they pretty much should be, which is ace. Lyon won the league, with PSG runners up. Inspecting the other tables, they're all extremely realistic across the board, everyone finishing roughly where they would do in real life which is amazing IMO.
Despite changing the squad quite a bit, it's the younger players who won though in season 1. Palmieri and Schmidt are solid at the back, especially if you set Schmidt's position to sweeper. Elsewhere, mid season signing Miljevic went right off form for a while but came back at the end of the season and is a huge prospect. But Schwarz stole the show, finishing top scorer at just 17 years old with 21 league goals.
Now for season 2. I'm concentrating on challenging for the French title, and Europa League win if at all possible. I've spent all my money so need to consolidate what I have, earn a bit through being successful on the pitch, develop my young players, and increase the amount the club spend on youth development and the fan base.
During the pre-season, I've signed a couple of the top level £5m coaches - a goalkeeper coach and a fitness coach who specialises in player form. I've also added three players for a large sum of money - Modric arrived from Tottenham for £20m (haggled down from Spurs' £35m asking price that was way out of my price range), 17 year old keeper Perin from Brescia for £1m, and full back Santon for £5m. I want to sign more players, but don't want to go down the rout of signing the world's best. Modric is one of my favourite players and will fit in nicely as a passer/dribbler without being too devastating a la Messi etc, and I've concentrated on using my funds to sign old heads that have been decent at a good level, youngsters I can develop, and good players on the fringes of huge clubs who don't regularly play.
Modric is awesome, in his debut he came on as a late sub and ran the game, the player controls so well, he feels really classy on the ball and can dribble and pass better than anyone I've got. Perin is my new keeper, but at 17 I'm not sure he'll be reliable enough, but his debut saw him actually making some good saves! With him and Fatecha fighting for a place, and my new world class GK coach to develop them, an outlay of just £1m for both is a good deal. And full back Santon is a player I'd totally recommend. He is a beast. Fast, tall, strong, good attacking and overlapping, strong in the air, players bounce off him and on his debut he set up a goal with a strong attack down the right. Brilliant signing, rated at 82 and is just 20 years old. Signed from Serie A.
I'm a bit short up front though, Schwarz and Pavlyuchenko do well but I've let go most of my default ML strikers now, so I need a striker in the mid season break on loan.
So, my team for this season will be;
Perin (GK)
Santon (RB) Palmieri (CB) Schmidt (SW) Ruskin (LB)
Hargreaves (DM)
Modric (AM)
Miljeciv (LWF) Valbuena (RWF)
Schwarz (CF) Pavluchenko (CF).
I also have Affelay as a major player, who is versatile and can play across the midfield or as a support striker. His free kick taking is simply amazing, the bend he can get on a FK is crazy!
On to season 2!
