Manchester United Thread

They didn't help but we should have been able to at least get a draw in Milan. Defensive problems came at the wrong time really.

Fair play to the United fans. I'm still in paradise.

Thought Milan had the perfect first half, we managed to keep United off the ball and didnt allow them to build any play. This match was also a good example of how much the fans could add to a team's performance, I'm quite sure playing in San Siro last night was quite intimidating. The Sky Italy cameras were shaking for a few minutes as the Milan fans just jumped and cheered all game.

Thought Gattuso was the man of the match, that guy is a warrior with pure passion. Even with an injury he ran like mad and canceled Ronaldo out of the game. Nesta, Jankulovski and Ambrosini were also very solid. Seedorf proved how dangerous he is when hes got possession of the ball - he was also involved in all 3 goals.

Kaka - the man from another planet, thought he had another great goal, he keeps impressing his own fans even more and even tried to get the Milan fans to cheer even more. 10 goals in 12 games for him.

Also thought Dida showed how solid he can be when his confidence is high, was also nice when he walked on the pitch, the fans all cheered for him for ages to give him support.

Thought United couldnt get into the game because of hour superb first half, but was a bit worried for the second half when United started to play their game, but then we nailed them with the counter for the 3-0.

Overall I thought both games were very entertaining and I enjoy the fact that there are no grudges between Milan and United - every game between us has been top class and both sets of fans are passionate and strong. Hope you guys win the title to shut that cunt Shevchenko up! Plus you deserve it!

To Athens we go!

cause ronaldo DOMINATED the entire league all year

Uhhh, he's dominated the poor teams, what has his contribution been against the top teams? Not much. Although to be fair, he was man marked and 2 players on him every time he got the ball whereas kaka was left with usually 1 or even non. Watching the game and him he looked to be to focussed on showing how good he is with stupid backheels and shit when he should have been focusing on how to beat his man/men. But he's still young and will improve (sadly).

The reasons why he left were ridiculous. If he wanted more money he simply had to say so. Instead he created this bullshit about wanting his kids to learn English etc. Still think he's great though.

Nearly every player who moves to the rent-boys for the wrong reasons ends up regretting it deep inside, I think looking at his situation at the moment Sheva is one of them.

Manu didnt turn up tonight and milan played some great stuff. What i did notice though was when manu pushed forward more and harried the milan defense they werent confortable and in the home leg they were hanging on when manu went into prem speed. Manu played european speed tonight and forgot to fight for the ball. That together with the attacks positioning, not having anybody in the area, meant they never looked dangerous either.

It was just a really good performence and a very poor one from manu, doesnt make their league the best because one of their teams played a really good semi (last time against psv they had to hang on for most of the games and were very fortunate to even win their home tie). And having 3 english teams int he semi doesnt make the prem the best league in the world. We just had 3 of the 4 strongest teams atm.

totally agree ;) :applause:
it was just a dark night for manu, and it can't erase what manu did this year. and the same goes for ronaldo. he just had a bad game, that's all. players like him has always to be confident, maybe also a lil cocky. if u miss your first 3 dribbling attempts, then u may loose your confidence, and this can influence your performance during the whole match.

afterall, let me say.... reaching the semifinals is a great result. it means that manu is among the 4 best teams in europe this season, so be proud of your guys ;)

i did notice it too, milanista:D really impressive:)

Now we desperately need to refocus and win on Saturday. Obviously city have a bit of thing to prove as its a derby, but hopefully so will ronaldo/rooney/giggs. They shouldn't be too tired after having b*gger all to do last night ;)!

A loss at city at prem's in balance again. Scary times ahead, won't be comfortable til we see Gary with his hands on the trophy!

I am gutted. Even this morning I am still shocked! How we were outclassed! I personally think Milan would have trounced Chelsea the same way before any 'jumped up' rentboys take the piss.

You know yesterday, not many teams would have been able to cope with milan.

This is just a joke so don't go getting stressed with me!!

The atmosphere was great last night, even before kick-off with the rain pouring down and the thunder crashing.

Milan were up for it from the start and it was almost impossible to get the ball off of them (though I think the players could have atleast tried, after Milan scored the 2 goals it was like the defence just wanted to sit back and watch).

:)

Yeh the effort just wasnt there until the start of the second half.

Mind you, Milan played great possesion football, Man Utd just couldnt get close.

I agree with what Phrase said about the result. Just as no-one wouldve thought Man Utd would beat Roma 7-1, theres not a lot of people who wouldve thought Milan would win so comforably.

The harsh truth is ladies and gentlemen is United bottled it last night. I not going to win too many fans for saying this but I think United lost it in their heads before the game even kicked off. The fear factor overtook the players, which led to them giving too much respect to Milan. It was if there was a mental blockage in the players, the belief was not there. I don’t think the tactics did help, which I think Fergie should shoulder some of the blame for. Of course he has no control over the players when they step out on the pitch, however the 4-5-1 approach did not suit the players. Trying to play Milan at their own game was not a wise move. It should have been quick tempo take it to them tatics which United usually play in the premiership. They should not have stepped off and allowed AC Milan to play their own game. This was the game where United should have been in the Milan player's faces closing them down at every oppotunity and grafting making it difficult for the home side and nullifying any rhythm Milan started to get into and silence the fans. Trying to protect a lead was not the correct way with going about things and it generally is not United’s way of playing. Its quite strange because pre-match Fergie gave the impression that he was intent on taking the game to Milan. If my memory serves me correctly he said that united would certaintly have a go and would not sit back.

This was United’s best chance of getting into the final after a long time of going out in the first round of the knockout stages, with having taken the 3-2 advantage into the San Siro. You’d think they would have been able to avoid defeat. Instead it looked like men against boys out there and once again in the San Siro United were taught a footballing lesson. What must be difficult for United fans is not so much as the fact that they went out as they still have the premiership and Fa Cup to play for, but the manner of which they went out on in a whimper and the humiliation of being outclassed. There seemed to be no spirit, belief or pride from United last night. Of course the benefit of Milan being able to rest key players for their league game last week certaintly played a part as they also have nothing else to play for, a similar situation to Liverpool. However tiredness can not excuse not trying or putting up a fight which United did not do. I think what they needed last night was a leader in midfield, someone to take the game by the scruff of the neck, a Guttuso if you will. Hargreaves would of been ideal for United last night.. For all of Carrick’s qualities he is not a leader, neither vocal or in the way he plays. I understand it didn’t help United missing their captain Neville and Ferdinand who would have helped bring some composure in the defense. However you just feel the result would have still been the same in the San Siro, merely for the fact that United still lack that influencial drive in the middle of the park and a reliable striker who does not keep getting injured as I don’t think United can keep relying on Rooney and Ronaldo to come up with something special every time. Saha when fit is very good but the fans and the manager must not be losing patience with him at getting injured at such crucial times. Smith through all his hard work and selfless service is not potent enough in front of goal.

One thing I noticed last night which I think United lacked, was that never say die attitude. Football is all about attitude. A massive portion of the game is never say die. Somehow United lacked the belief when they went 2 goals down, never mind 3. When Milan scored 2, United needed 2 goals to win. It did not matter that they had scored a third, because regardless, United would still have needed two goals, although the reward then would not the final, but a further 30 minutes for a shot at the final courtesy of extra time.

Now, boths team appeared to think, and the commentators started saying "its all over". It wasn't actually. Nothing had changed, United still needed two goals, whether they had conceded 3 or 2. United knew that if they continued attacking they could have conceded the third. But so what? They still needed 2 goals regardless.

If the United players had showed that never say die attitude like back in 99, one would to run to the net, pick the ball out, and tell everyone that its not changed anything, and that they still needed to get two goals. So, my conclusion is, that it wasn't the fact that milan had scored the third to put the tie beyond doubt, but it was our fact that the United team recognised that they were not as good a team as Milan, and were never going to get a goal, never mind 2.

There was also another incident in the match which Ronaldo’s petulance rised up and showed clearly he still has a lot of growing up to do. It was when Ronaldo got booked with......correct me if I'm wrong, 7 minutes to go until the end of the 90 minutes. The boy was 1 yellow card away from a 1 match ban. It wasn't the sort of challenge that Keane put in against Juve. It was a petulant challenge. It was a challenge that told the world 'I don't believe we stand a chance to score 2 goals and bring this game to extra time, I'm frustrated so to hell with it, we're out anyways'. It was that moment the camera focused on Sir Alex, who noticbly shook his head in disgust. Not at the referees decision to book the boy, but at ronaldo for losing his head. I’ve noticed also that since Ronaldo has won his PFA awards, he has reverted back to his old self of trying to takE on the whole world by himself. What I mean by that, is he trying to hard to do everything by himself on the pitch to live up to the hype that he is the best player in the world. The Ronaldo v Kaka debate did not help which I think he got sucked into. You could see how keen Ronaldo was to impress when he tried his back heel flick trick 12 seconds into the start of the match. At that moment you could see it was not going to be Uniteds night, along with the heavy rain. I’m sure it was not just me who felt it was all going to end in tears for Man Utd. The best thing United can do from here, is to learn from the diasappointment.

Maybe fergie should learn to take more of a risk in Europe and try to make teams fear United a bit more, in that he should not try and adapt United’s tactics to the oppositions game but rather have the opposition fear Uniteds tactics which they are best at, because I honestly don’t think 4-5-1 suits United in Europe and they certaintly don’t have the defensive disciplined players to make it work like such teams as Chelsea or Liverpool. I think Ferguson will now tell his players, how far past expections they had already come this season and that they can only grow from this to become a stronger team in the competition next year...then of course making sure they don't let the disappointment affect what is undeniably the team's main goal of getting the league title back to old Trafford and re-establishing themselves domestically. The domestic league is the bread and butter after all and correct me if I’m wrong but I think its nearly 4 years since United last won the league, so I think that’s the main aim for United and of course the FA cup is realistic. The treble would have been a bonus for them but the injuries certaintly took their toll. Unlucky better luck next year for you guys.

get your red tinted glasses off, rooney was the main player with scholes againts milan. Ronaldo hardly did anything besides run into milans defense and hit some hopeless potshots at goal. And as for the roma match, they even made carrick look great. Name some more matches were he's been a real problem for the opposing team, a top team? Wasnt a prob against chelsea, nor at arsenal (were for the most part he was trying to show how good he is with stupid flicks and backheel passes instead of just getting past his bloody marker and putting a good ball in), cant remember him doing anything against liverpool, or milan, or roma away.

Like you said:
one game does not make a player you douche

So can you name me some more games against top teams besides roma (and i just disagree with the milan one). Im not having a go at ronaldo, as i think he can become a great player, its just kaka showed up the hype that the prem has and its all very well dominating teams like watford, boro, etc but he hasnt dominated against the top teams. Which most players cant but the really really top players. Im just trying to bring some perspective, yet you go on calling a guy a douche and telling me im talking bullshit when you cant seem to come up with a decent argument other then "your" opinion and a single game performence (rome), the same argumentation you were using to say the other guy was wrong .

I'm really happy on the reactions of both parties after the game.It was mutual all around unlike the other two teams.Milan and Man United always had respect for each other even down to the grassroots, the fans.We got to move on now to the Derby.Lets not forget that we could take our Crown home if we win this weekend if Chavski lose or draw at the Emirates.

Given that United have 'their' way of doing things, I'm quite sure we're going to lose Saturday, Chavski's score a 97th minute penalty and then beat us at the bridge...only for them to draw at everton and us to beat west ham. Hope I'm wrong...

Good news is that if Rio and Vidic are starting to come back, we should be in good shape. Ronnie just won the PFA award, so for the love of G*d plese show some of that form against citeh!

I actually think we will bounce back against City, I can see us picking up the three points and see the Gooners at least hold the Chavs to a draw which gives us the title :)

Dj

Same here DjDoc.We should be able to brush them aside without their 'star' player Joey 'Thug' Barton.Side news which is brilliant in my opinion. We are seriously looking to secure Micah Richards from Citeh to succeed Gaz Neville.Smashing, monster of a player in my eyes. The best thing is that,Richards himself is aware and excited about signing for us.
