Manchester United Thread

guys, may i suggest u something?

never believe in spanish sporty newspapers! (as, marca......)

if spanish press writes that c. ronaldo will join real, then u can be sure that ronaldo will stay at manchester;)

lol yeah I know but madrid have a history of this..

They have bought two players off us recently so we know their tactics, and using as marca is one of them...

No-one can replace Ronny out on the wing. No one. We have even got to consider getting a replacement for Giggs so losing two wingers is NOT gonna happen!

Be strong United - hold him!

that's true, van, but most of the times, they just "use" their newspapers to guarrantee to themselves a lil bit of "free adverstise" (associating a big player's name to real generates a sort of "hype" around the club).

moreover, Ferguson is just too smart to sell ronaldo to real. as long as i remember he only sold players that, in his opinion, weren't part of his projects anymore (like beckham)... i don't think he will sell one of the greatest new stars of european football so easily ;)

robson, kanchelski(sp), keano, ince, hughes, beckham, the great dane, cantona, rvn, bruce, pallister are all players ABU's/the media hoped we could never replace under SAF, so did the supporters to a certain degree

but we will replace him if he goes..

we are looking at some russian winger who is supposed to be decent, also nani at sporting has been linked (two right sided players), park can do a job there aswell...

its been said that SAF sees gareth bale as successor to giggs on the left and apparently SAF is a fan of Pedersen at blackburn (who was linked before he joined them) who also plays on the left...

maybe..

but we have an Owner now, one with a huge debt to service, £54mill is a silly amount of money..

and likewise its silly to turn that money down, as I posted we will replace him, that sort of money will add upto 3-5 players to our already week squad...

and without Glazer having to actually use his own/the clubs money...

I dont necessarily agree but its business..

I would be pretty happy if we Signed Pedersen. I think we have got to keep hold of Ronaldo. You dont sell possibly the best player in the world!

Dj

Exactly - Vann is right, you can replace players but why sell the most gifted player in the squad is so crucial?

Madrid can suck my balls.

i see. indeed i heard about man utd debts.

nontheless i read an intersting article on an italian financial newspapers, months ago. it was about the role of football players nowadays. it said that today football stars are also considered as "brands" by their clubs, some sort of a "good image" of the club, the "clean and smiley face of the club".
just take a look at ronaldo (i mean the bald one  ) or ronaldinho. today they're more than football players, they're like "industries". and if u think to it, it's quite interesting how they are called ("R9".... it looks like a new nike model).
then , once a club "used" their "advertising potential", the clubs might even consider to sell them, so they can buy a "new hero", a "new image".
actually this is what manchester did with becks, juve did with zizou, real did with "r9"..... and now it seems that barca is going to do the same thing with ronaldinho (by selling him to milan).
now, if there's any truth in this theory (i'm not sure about it, but it looks quite realistic to me), well man utd just started to "use" c. ronaldo's image, and it would be reasonable for man utd to hold him and take advantage of his "advertising brightness" for still 3 or 4 years.
afterall, he's still so young, and i think that in the next 3 years his value will grow up a lot. :)

It would be a good idea to buy Pedersen just for the sake of stopping him doing damage when he plays us.

Its true, the beckham fee real paid to manu was recouped by shirt sales in asia alone i think. Something like that anyway.

For some reason though Ronaldo isnt marketed in the same way we marketed beckham..

After having to deal with The Beckham Circus I dont think SAF will (if he can) let his players go down that rd again, he sees this as "protecting" his younger players...

United seem to now try and market the team as the brand as opposed to individual players because as with Beckham, they eventually leave taking with them the sort of fans who get caught up in that type of hype,

I think Rooney is now our most marketable brand (in probley the whole country actually)for different reasons than Becks obviously but mostly related to his football ability instead of looks/image...

Like I said if he turns down £110K a week and wants to leave there is nothing We can do, I just think as a business we will have to take the money, cos u never know, he could get a bad injury or not live up to his potential, who knows, lol its like deal or no deal...

The common opinion and consensus in Portugal is that he should stay at United, where he's more likely to grow as a player and as a man.

And you should get Nani. He can be as good as Ronaldo, albeit different.

To be honest, its almost bothering me how effective he is when on the ball. It seems like he plays some part in every goal we score and it makes you wonder what would happen without him.
I hope we could kill off our next opponent in 60 mins and see how we do for the remaining 30 without him cuz we're relying on him way too much imo.

:) dont think he would do that but it would be class if he did... matherto I think we can beat Chelsea on our day.. I think we are a better TEAM by far :) They have some good individuals but mostly diving cheating scumbags (cough cough Drogba, Joe Cole, Ashley Cole... wait most of the squad!) and crap players like Lampard who scores mostly lucky deflections....

Dj

I think Chelsea are actually a more effective unit than United. We're much more fun, and the palyers look like they actually enjoy playing with each other. But you will only get 1/2 chances a half against Chelsea, and they will get at least a couple too. They're ruthless, close down like maniacs (what we're rubbish at) and have great players. Head to head I'd say we'd win 1 of 3 with our best team out there. So..which one will it be?

Great news that Christiano has signed a new 5 year deal...

courtesy of United We Stand...

Cristiano Ronaldo has agreed terms to a new five year contract at Manchester United that keeps him at the club until at least June 2012. The deal is expected to make him the best paid player at the club.

That should quell the constant and often unsubstantiated tabloid rumours linking him with Real Madrid.

Sir Alex Ferguson said: "It is fantastic news, it emphasises the pointthat Cristiano is happy here and that he is at the right club. He has a great relationship with the team, staff and the fans and he will go on to be one of Manchester United's great players"

Cristiano said: "I am delighted. I spoke with Sir Alex and David Gill about my future and everyone knew that I wanted to stay. I am very happy at the club and I want to win trophies and hopefully we will do that this season"

Do any of you know if theres ANY CHANCE AT ALL that I can get tickets for United-Milan? I live in London by the way.

I know this will sound stupid mate but phone around the Travel Agents - they usually do packages that leave from London.

Depends if you HAVE to sit in the away fans or if you could put up with the Mancs? :)

Thats a very good point.

While probably not as comparable, under Houllier Gerrard was much like the way Ronaldo is playing for you now, for a whole season he dragged our buts game to game (bear with me Ronaldo hasnt done that all season but in the run in definetely) trouble was he ran so many games we began to rely on him. If he was kak, the rest of the team couldnt handle it - only up until after benitez's first season did we shake the one man tag. The players used to play with the adage that if Gerrard wasnt up to it, neither where they.

Its funny when you look back at some of the goals we scored, you can see that whenever he didnt make the assist, he's usually the one that plays the ball into the player that did. Sometimes he goes down the center and then passes to a winger for the cross, in other situations, its usually Ronaldo taking the shot and then someone scoring from the rebound. He's always doing something if not everything.
