Manchester United Thread

I dont think the cup is there for the taking. Its even harder this time round. All 6 British teams are in and big guns like Barca,Milan,Real,Lyon and Inter all qualified.I fear Lyon the most actually,I think they are the most well balanced team in Europe.

Denis Irwin was the best ever defender for Man U, greatest of all time, he had it all, finesse, speed, the footwork skills and just an all around monster. They didn't call him "The Bull" for nothing.

Man Shitty tommorrow. Hopefully we can wipe the floor with them and go 9points clear. That would be a hugh psychological blow to chelsea by putting heaps of pressure on them to win their games in hand.
With the likes of Ole and Park returning and smith scoring a sublime chip last night, we should be well equipped going into january having already secured the services of the lengendary Henrik Larsson.

I think another centre midfield recruit would be perfect to complete our team. A winger would be a bonus but we already have park who can play on both wings and ole can play on the right when needed. So we have cover in that department when those players return. Hargreaves would be the ideal option in january for a midfield recruit. His will to join us is strong. He is really determined to return to his family in England and join Manchester United. Soon Bayern Munich representatives Royal Hoeness and Rummenige will have no choice but to yield in to our desire to secure the services of a player who was born to play for United. Their stubborness cant hold much longer if he keeps declaring his will to join us publicly.

Better still, our lesser rivals Liverpool and Arsenal are failing to cope this season, their weaknesses are evident and the future is looking bright, the future is Manchester United.

I've got an uneasy feeling about tomorrow. I know that we've beaten a few of our bogey teams this year when in the previous couple, we just wouldnt've, but City are the big bastard of bogey teams for us. It will be interesting, but I'm just unsure of it.

hm...haven't been here for a while...hahaha

but boy, Man Utd is doing well...and all respect to Vidic!! playing GREAT....our whole defense line is great compared to last year or recent years since Stam left!!!

as for Man City tml...should be a great game...and i do agree that u never know what will happen in a derby....but i'm quite sure we will take the 3 points and be 9 ahead of Chelsea who (i want them to lose,) will beat Henry-less Arsenal....(oh, Wenger will put that 4-5-1 formation AGAIN...for sure)

Here is a good article I found and its a good read.

Those who admire Nemanja Vidic often say he bears a striking resemblance to the big-hitting Russian in Rocky IV and the Manchester United defender has compared the Premiership to 15 rounds in the ring.

"Every game is like a boxing match for me," Vidic recently revealed. So, it seems, is every training session.

Vidic has quite a reputation when it comes to leaving his mark on team-mates, even if he ends up hurting himself.

In June, his desire to exact revenge on Mateja Kezman during a Serbia and Montenegro squad practice match left him with an injury that ruled him out of the World Cup and Sir Alex Ferguson is said to wince at the sight of him attempting to slice Louis Saha in two. "Watch the tackling!" cries Ferguson, even if he does demand commitment from his players.

But there is more to Vidic than the Ivan Drago image. More inside the head than a slightly psychopathic desire to do to opponents what Dolph Lundgren’s Drago once did to Apollo Creed along with that sayinh 'if he dies he dies'.

Sadness and pain also drive a player who has firmly established himself alongside Rio Ferdinand at the centre of the United defence. Sadness born out of the loss of his closest friend and colleague at Red Star Belgrade who, in October 2001, collapsed and died from a heart attack in front of him during a training session.

Vladimir Dimitrijevic was a promising 20-year-old striker and the two were inseparable. "We dreamt the same dreams, wanted to touch the sky with Red Star, but unfortunately Vlada is not with us any more," said Vidic after captaining Red Star to a domestic double in 2004. "When I play, I think about my friend and I will do everything I can to save his memory."

Everything he does he is doing rather well at the moment, as Stuart Pearce has no doubt noted in preparation for Saturday’s Manchester derby at Old Trafford. Not only does Vidic stop the opposition from scoring but, as Benfica discovered on Wednesday, he scores goals too. "Defenders win you games," says Ferguson. "And he is a top defender."

To begin with, however, Vidic did not find it easy to adapt to life in Manchester. "When I first arrived at the club I hadn’t trained for more than 40 days," said Vidic, who moved from Spartak Moscow last January for around £7million. "The season in Russia had finished and I had a few injuries. I had a whole new environment to get used to, a new country, a new club, a new set of team-mates, and I needed time to adjust.

"It was very difficult at the start but everything has been getting better and better and I’m feeling happier and stronger every day. I’m slowly improving my form and I think that I can become a much better player at this club."

But there were other problems to overcome. "When I moved from Belgrade to Moscow it wasn’t such a big move in terms of the cultural differences," he said. "The way of life and the weather in those cities is not so different.

"When I arrived in England it was a very big difference. Things like driving on the other side of the road were very difficult for me to get used to. I started driving on my second day in Manchester and it was very confusing at first. I hit the kerb a few times.

"The food is also very different to the food in Serbia and Russia. People putting milk in tea was so strange, although now I have tried it I have to say that I don’t mind it."

The language barrier is something he turned into a challenge. He might have been in England for less than a year but he has an ongoing competition with Cristiano Ronaldo and takes great pride in speaking English with more authority than his Portuguese team-mate.

Vidic, who spoke only a few words of English when he arrived, said: "I’m taking lessons and I’ve got a lot better. I hope to be perfect in future."

Perfection, for Vidic, comes in the form of clean sheets and a growing understanding with centre back partner Rio Ferdinand. Ferguson has dared compare them to Gary Pallister and Steve Bruce, which Vidic sees as a huge compliment.

"Rio and I get along really well and we’re starting to play well together too," he said. "We haven’t conceded as many goals as last season and I find it very easy playing alongside Rio. He’s a great player with plenty of experience, but the most important thing is the excellent communication between us.

"English football is so demanding and I don’t think you can play unless you are 100 per cent fit. The game here is so quick and when you are playing every Saturday and Wednesday it can be very tough. It’s one of the best leagues in the world, but it’s also very physical.

"That’s why I say it’s like a boxing match. Nowhere else can you be as physical with opponents. I prepare for every match telling myself that I will be up against the best striker in the world because you always have to be ready for a battle."

Vidic is a modest man. The finest footballer in Serbia and one of the first people in Belgrade to own two mobile phones might have opted for a Hello magazine-style wedding, but instead chose a modest mountain restaurant near his home town to marry Ana, who is expecting their first child any day now.

Ferguson has gone out of his way to make sure the couple settle in Manchester and Vidic is quick to acknowledge as much. "When I first arrived there was a lot of pressure on me because the club had spent a lot of money and people didn’t know who I was, but the manager took all the pressure off and really helped me get settled in."

As City will no doubt discover, he is starting to repay his manager in full.

I believe we will somehow sign Owen Hargreaves in January. His latest 'pleading' to the media was the clearest yet of his intent.United however have also short listed Rio Antonio Mavuba as a possible alternative if we didnt get the England star.

2-0 HT. And who said Ronaldo can't cross? Thats three assists in his last three games so far. Where are all you miserable haters now?

Those last ten minutes were nerve racking. I thought they were going to get back in it after we changed to 4-5-1. They put us under tremendous pressure before Ronald put them to bed and back to their shithole. They played like a bunch of amatuers fouling every minute. Ben Thatcher has got to be one of the dirtiest players in the premiership. Corradi's dive was hilarious. Just hope the english press go on about it for the next three days and repeatdly show it every day while getting every football pundit to crucify him.

Ronaldo did brilliant today, 1 assist and a goal. I thought this was a good article from Andy Gray on Ronaldo's dive and stupid hysteria with the media and the witch hunt that is on him. http://www.football365.com/andy_gray/0,17033,8745_1758318,00.html

However 9points clear we are. Just have to sit back and watch how chelsea handle the pressure tomorrow. I'll try to keep the bile down as I say 'C'mon Arsenal'

4pm there is going to be a press conference with Fergie, Gill and Lippi. It was announced on Five live, but I'm not too sure what it is about.

Lippi is gonna coach a Europe XI team against us in a match for Charity.
Some kind of big UEFA celebration. Sounds nice to me.

fantastic, we're now technically 5 points ahead, but I would still be laughing next Christmas if Newcastle beat them midweek.

I was of course laughing when Flamini scored, and then when Lampard missed, I'm as happy as can be

Did anybody see the celebrations after the United goals? Hardly any of the team hugged each other or seemed happy that a goal was scored, this tells me one thing and one thing only, the morale within the United camp is at an all time low. It's clear they are not geling together as a unit and sooner or later this is going to backfire. It's like a bunch of bananas when it's first brought in to production for human consumption, sure they all look ripe and fresh in the beginning but eventually they get broken off and begin to fade. It's never a good sign when 90% of the United fans are relying on Arsenal to win their championship for them either. Even Ferguson admitted that, a mate of mine who works as pilot in a greater Manchester airport overheard Ferguson at the boarding gate getting ready for a small 2 day holiday saying "Oh, I dunno what happened to Arsenal this season but thank god we don't have to worry about them, they are just helping us out" and then he went on to talk about how Vidic could become a natural replacement for Rooney up front in the near future. Anyways, this stone has gathered a lot of moss, I'll put 20 quid on with every United supporter here that United won't win the League this season.

My mate owns a shop in London that sells frogs legs, snails and garlic and Mr Wenger goes there quite regular. He overheard a conversation that the whole arguement between Arsene and Pardew was all about Wenger becoming the next Hammers boss. I also hear that the rift between Arsene and Thierry is not true and when Wenger becomes West Ham boss Henry will be his main target along with Vieira. Dennis Bergkamp will be Wengers number 2 at Upton Lane also
