Manchester United Thread

So that's probably the end of the summer signings. I'm not too pessimistic about the season, as long as some key players avoid big injuries, we should put in a fight. I'd prefer to have a compact, focused squad over a massive one that is constantly rotated. Rio said a few weeks ago the transition period is over, lets see if he's right!

Dermot, what grass are you smoking?? Are you even sober when you post any of your entries?

Leave him, his comments are absolutely right. United have made a dreadful start to the season, if only they made a good start like Arsenal did ](*,) ;)

Look out for Rooney by the way his first league game back after his ban? Arsenal, I hope Rooneys feeling hungry, you can tell he always loves scoring against them

He must be thinking its Arsenal top of the table with 3 wins out of 3...... Just to add my few cents, I think Trezeguet is good, Ronaldo has shown me exactly why we paid so much money for him he has been excellent and has proved me and lots of other people wrong, Rooney... well I dont care what anyone says we are a far better team creatively with Wayne Rooney in our side, same with Scholesy, Against Charlton we were very good but you could tell we were lacking that little bit of extra punch up front that Rooney and Scholes provide us with.

I will be a little disappointed if we dont sign anyone having sold Ruud but if we carry on getting good performances and getting the 3 points thats all im worried about.

4. Which were the lucky wins? Was that the 4-1 or the 3-0?
i think the 2-1 win was quite lucky as Henderson missed our goal in an extremely close range
but other than that im happy with our performance:)

Wouldn't you prefer us to not sign anyone instead of making a rash last minute transfer that we'd regret?

There's still some time left, so we may be in for a suprise (as long as it isn't Trezeguet!)

I d rather we sign someone. There is enough decent players about that could be a good signing. Reo-coker, Mascherono, Tevez and even going for Defoe. I dont think any those moves would be rash. Only Trezeguet would be a stupid move. We are trying to bring up a young squad where youth gets a chance Not mercenaries who want a buck or two because their old club isnt where they once was.

He said wins as in plural, so gave him the 2-1, was curious what the other would be. Interestingly, Henderson was offside, so it wouldn't have counted. But yes, we could well have drawn with Watford. I'm really curious how teams are going to deal with them, they could definitely beat a fast, skillful team like Arsenal with the long ball strategy.

But how will they play against Chelsea? City rolled over and let Chelsea play and Lost 3-0, Boro made a good tactical switch and out played Chelsea at times and Deserved their 2-1 win, as for Blackburn... John Terry is a disgrace, first he destroys a Water Dispenser (Property of Middlesborough Football Club) then he falls down under the lightest of contact from Andre Ooijer for a Penalty! Chelsea were playing crap up until that point and Won because things went their way (as they did most of last season) Arsenal have looked very average against Villa and looked as if they had run out of ideas against City.

How will we get on against Spurs?

I wasn't saying that we shouldn't sign anyone, there are quite a few good signings out there.
It's just that many teams tend to go into panic mode and sign whoever they can on the last days of the transfer window ie Neill to Liverpool (not that he's a bad signing for them if it happens, but Liverpool already have several options on the wings)

It would be nice to add at least one more face, though if it is Trezeguet then I'd prefer it if we didn't bother. A one legged Cisse would be a better option!

How can you call a player a Mercenary, when he's quite willing to play for juventus even in Serie B.

If I could, i'd ban you for that comment.

Ouch

It wasn't meant in the literal sense, I was just making a point that I hope to not see him in a United shirt. Is that a crime?

Oh its too fun to ignore!
1. Ruud virtually never scored with his head, so I'm not sure where the massive ariel threat comment is from. What the hell is a banana shot? Unless referring to his penalty taking technique, he didn't do those either. Finally you're right he does get a lot of volleys, but those are from crosses into the goal mouth which he 'covers like a non-venomous anaconda' (why would you pick a relatively slow and ungainly snake, the emile heskey of slitherers if you will?)
2. SAF is looking for a natural replacement for Rooney: Of course! Rooney's clearly past it. We should look to cash in immediately, I mean, with him so easy to replace and all.
3. Losing posession 9/10 times/thunder shot off target: If you check you'll find United are actually the club with the most shots on goal, and wonderfully high posession figures too. But don't worry about the facts.
4. Which were the lucky wins? Was that the 4-1 or the 3-0?
5. 'Quick, compact, skillful striker' - oh you mean Rooney. Oh no you don't, you mean, what, Trezeguet? Compact? What?

Sorry that was just the single most ridiculous post I've ever seen on here, so had to find out if you're actually being serious....?

Listen, I was just putting forward what i see as an amateur coach. I've won medals at all levels up to Under-16's girls, boys and co-ed (mix of boys and girls on one team) here in the US. Okay so maybe I misjudged that Ruud had hardly ever scored with his head, nobody is perfect but i still 100% agree that in Sir Alex's mind Rooney is on the way out. Look at the way Rooney playacted at the World Cup, acting like a geriatric donkey with his own teammate C.ronaldo. What do you think is going through fergusons head when he sees that on TV? Ferguson has built his united teams on dignity and class and I know for a fact he hates unprofessionalism. I have an inside source in Manchester that told me Ferguson paid for psychiatric treatment for Wayne Rooney the year after he came from Everton and towards the end of last season he was at his wits end with him and the only reason he couldn't pawn him off was because he couldn't get a proper cash/player exchange deal from any of the big clubs. Now the Trezeguet swoop looks on the cards and he'll get him along with a bunch of cash to get a big man like Crouch to play alongside the gazelle speed and technical prowess of Trezeguet. I can sense he is looking at that team and saying the only way forward is tyo stop these ljunberg-esque bursts through the middle and switch to the aeriel ball from C.ronaldo etc onto someone who can knock it down for Trezeguet, a good muscular big body that is good in the air like a Peter Crouch, Theirry Henry, or Niall Quinn when he was with Sunderland. If it was Rooney and trezeguet in the box together they may as well not have wingers, why bother crossing? Their combined height wouldn't reach Crouchs chin. I bet you never thought of that before you start giving my opinions this total slating.

There is no chance in hell that ferguson will kick out Rooney.
This is the craziest thing i've ever heard.

And no matter how some people might not like rooney, he is a great player, and he is obsessed with winning and scoring goals. You will not find a player like him just like that.

If thats your view then fair enough Dermot, But I really think if Fergie wants someone to leave Man Utd then Wayne Rooney would be one of the last people to leave.

I think Fergie would reply with the first thing he says on this interview, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1r1av1Shn4

It doesnt look like it but does anyone think United will have any late transfer action ?, I think Senna at a push would be good but after the deadline for him has passed that looks out of the window. Im not at all bothered about this Trezeguet talk Id sooner play Rooney and Saha together

This post is very funny! it must be a joke. The fact that Ferguson wants rid of one of the most exciting and valuable players in the world is definately a joke. Also him being one of the most potentially world beating English players for a very long time.

The next thing about Crouch having a 'good muscular body' the bloke is about as muscular as a twiglet!

oh how I laughed!

I can't see us getting anyone. Maybe we started too well. I wouldn't be surprised if Smithy went to Sunderland for a 3 month loan though.

Okay, go ahead and have a big laugh at my expense, fine, but I can tell you what i think of the United squad.

VanderSar - just a bad, bad goalkeeper. Ferguson is wishing Schmeichel is still between the sticks. Look at his all time shots to saves ratio, it's down around the lower 60's, one of the worst in the premier league. His reflexes are just gone, too old, by next season he'll be gone

Ryan Giggs - No gas left in the tank WHATSOEVER. Ferguson has nightmares about this guy now. He hardly ever uses him cause he knows next season he'll need a zimmerframe to get out on the pitch.

Solskjaer - The 20 months he was out couldn't have been short enough, he was crap before the injury and ferguson may as well dig up his Granmother and put her in the midfield rather than play this guy now.

Carrick - The guys won nothing, absolutely nothing. His bones are as soft as a babies ankle, watch him snap with the same injuries that has plagued him all his career, Alex only got him cause he couldn't get his paws on Vieira.

O'Shea - Left Back? Centre back? Midfielder? What is this guy? AF may as well stick him in the goals next. O'Shea is a lump of lard. Full stop.

C.Ronaldo - All pace and all talk, has hardly any knowledge of the game, put this guy indoors and let him do his little tricks on the hardwood floor in a 5 aside. I cringe when I watch him play.

Rooney - My God, how predictable is this guy? If I was a defender I'd just tell myself to step in front of Rooney and he'll be stopped. He runs like a bull at the festival in Pamplona, Spain. Straightline speed, gather the ball for the thunder volley towards the net, it's not a game of chess and any defensive orientated coach could get his back men to stop this guy. Wait til the hype boils over and after a couple of seasons he'll be playing as a novelty act in MLS.

Park - Are you kidding me? Get this guy back on a boat to Taiwan quickly before its too late. This guy wouldn't make the ladies team, just because he had one mediocre world cup, he's just another Karel Poborsky, remember him? Honestly, what has this guy done for your team since he came?

Wes brown - the only thing intricate about this player is his cornrows, which don't suit him either. Crap defender, no strength, no speed, his legs are like 2 beer kegs strapped to his hip bones.

I could go on and on and on but I'm getting tired already, the only real upcoming talent you have is Liam Miller.

I'm getting to like this bloke. Although I think what he says is rubbish, I am an Arsenal supporter so I just can't muster up the energy to go against him.

But if you are not joking - I think you should stick to your amateur under 16's football you seem to be very good at that.

You are a funny fella.

this is the best comedy i have read in years.

a big man like henry to knock the ball down for trezeguet?

when does henry ever knock balls down for anyone? the ball gets played infont of him into space most of the time as arsenal do not cross the ball at all.

so all these man u playes are rubbish? and liam miller a good prospect? i need to take a break. hahahaha.

Wow....

I am no ManU fan but,

Giggs:Is still an amazing player, and he proved his importance in the last game. The fans seem to love him, and so does the team.

C.Ronaldo:Has incedible technique, speed and can score. His crossing is not the best, but nobody is perfect, you win some you lose some.

Rooney:Is a born winner, fast, strong, can dribble, shoot and score any way he wants.WTF people complain about Wayne Rooney now?You might hate the person, but he is a great player.

Park:Is a hard worker.I agree that he is nothing special, but sits on the bench without complaining about it, and works hard for the team.

Van der Sar is still a great goalkeeper.

I agree that O'shea and Wes Brown are nothing special, and that solskjaer will never be the same guy he was a couple years ago, but you need to chill, you make it look like everybody at manchester sucks.

Come on now, how can you expect to be taken seriously when you are trying to make out that Liam Miller is the only player worth anything at United. Your post are just meant to troll and wind us up. The first one was funny, but this is just stupid. its getting ridiculous so stop.

Okay fine, whatever, I'm not trying to wind up anybody I'm just giving my view of things at United, i am pretty neutral in my persepctive of all clubs and football but I believe that united in its current state is in turmoil even though 3 wins might have glossed things over a bit with a quick lick of paint. I'm not saying my team is any better or worse either.

Is everybody eager to have a go at Dermot now? Wow,I couldnt believe what I was reading!!? Dermot..YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING.Are you suffering from some sort of mental instability? Please, before you slant off United players,I suggest you learn about them more.Watch our last 3 games, relive how we finished 2nd in the premiership last season.I love New Yorkers, especially those who are really interested in football...but you're just a puppet,mate...and I pity you.

Hes right, I think relegation beckons for Man Utd :lmao:

After the terrible start they have made and with Rooney, Scholes, Heinze, Vidic to come back its only down hill from here
