Manchester United Thread

Your forgetting Tevez is a big fan of United.

So was/is Ronaldinho.

I think Tevez will just end up being another Torres.Every year rumored to sign with a big club, but nothing happens,

No he wasnt.

I don't see Tevez being more "proud" to play for ManU, than Ronaldinho would be, i remember him saying "he would be proud to wear the Manchester United shirt" before signing with barca.
What would make tevez go to ManU?Except Heinze i don't see anything that could make him go that way.

Tevez manager is in rome today, talking to the AS Roma staff.

I think milan would be the best move for tevez, crespo loves staying there, and i believe the enviroment there, would fit tevez better than manchester.

In my opinion manchester has no need for tevez anyway. It all depends on the fee, if tevez is cheap, every team would love to have him, but the way i see it, and with the tons of teams interested(lyon, milan, chelsea, ManU, and today ASRoma) he will be a very expensive option, that will possibly need time to click with the team in manchester and forget about his recent escapades(fights with teammates, fans, nightclub sessions etc).

Apparently, Ferguson was told from above to buy English players. I think we'd have seen Diarra or Senna, but it's looking like Carrick and maybe Hargreaves. I wonder why they had to be English. Maybe Gill knows something about a rule change or something and tipped Utd off.

Uli Hoeness stold the press that the van bommel-hargreaves rumors are "fairy tales", and that fcbayern will attack with both hargreaves and van bommel.

Van bommel was revealed today in munich, he will wear the no.17 shirt.

I thing Van Bommel will simply replace Ballack.

So, no Heargreaves for you! Come back, one year! :)
umm apparently van bommel let it slip and said soemthing like, "i want to be in attack and now that ballack is gone, and owen is going to united, i can do that..."

also heard we are getting trezegoal... that would be awesome

Cicinho and Robinho were the best players in Brazil's WC me thinks. They were also very involved in the good 2nd half of last years season for Madrid.

Considering the fact that an english player with half his talent would cost you twice as much, i'd say definetly get him!

Because when opposing teams "park their bus", you need everybody going forward. It's good to have options.

Edit: take us (Benfica) for example, we have Alcides and Nelson at RB.
Alcides is tall, slow, a good defender, doesn't go forward that much. Nelson is short, can't defend that well, but attacks very well, and can beat opponents in 1 on 1 situations. The decision to play one or the other usually relies on which team we're playing againt.

It's good to have options... ;)
ummm did you watch the cup? cichno sat on the bench... cafu and r carlos started on the outside...

i hope utd do not try to sign him. they now play fast attacking football and i don't think he would contribute to that. saha has changed the attack by making runs left, right and deep and asking for the ball over the top. i thought trezeguet was like ruud and held the ball up? does he run at the defenders and scare them with pace?

I fully agree.
Manchester is looking as exciting as they have not looked in the past years bacause:

- Saha, one of the most underrated excelence strikers in the PL is showing he should have got more chances, earlier on.

- Ronaldo is starting on demolition man mode.

Trezeguet will not bring much to Man Utd attack. Tevez would be the right choice. Saha supported by Tevez, Rooney and Ronaldo would be a very difficult setup to stop.

yeah mate, i think your on to something there.. i think some people have been saying tevez might not be able to adapt to the prem, i think he can given time.... rooney or saha can play the hold up striker position very well.. they can knock down balls and let ronny and tevez have at it... lets see if this happens

i'm still not quite sure about Tevez.....probably i'm still concerned with his lack of passing!!! but..i'm sure he might prove me wrong if he does come....

as for Hargreaves...when will this end man?? like enough of him...is he coming or not?? if he is...great...if not, save up the money and get someone next year or in January....Scholes can last for a good year or two i believe!

Scholes seems to be like Giggs. The older they get, the stronger they fight to maintain their own high standards. We dont really need Hargreaves unless we're gonna use 4-3-3 from time to time. Cuz otherwise he'll just be an alternative for Carrick.

I think we do because if carrick gets suspended or injured, its back to John O'Shite or Fletcther to do the defensive midfield job. Depth is the key. Hargreaves and Tevez would be beautiful and would complete the team.

Right, but if you find a brazilian anywhere in the world that wanted Cafu playing instead of Cicinho i'll buy you a beer.

I agree.Only reason Cafu was playing is because everybody wanted him to improve his WC record.Other than that i still can't see why Cafu was paying. They could have used Rivaldo as well, their fitness is on a very similar level.Couldn't have been worse than it was actually.

both you guys are nuts, r carlos was the weak link not cafu, cafu looked fine... i thought...

First of all, as a Benfica fan I must say that our groop is not easy but, considering the options, we can say that the draw wasn't bad at all. I don't see Manchester United as an easy team (no Benfica fan does) but I think that we have our chances considering our football style. Benfica has been playing very badly and we lost some players that could be very useful this Champions League playing on counter attack, like Geovanni. Anyway, I also agree that league form has nothing to do with the CL matches. In fact, it doesn't impress me at all the Manchester United start this season. Everytime Benfica, Sporting or Porto gets one of that smaller english teams it's pretty obvious most of them are often overated by the english. I respect Manchester United, they have plenty of players that can decide a game (Giggs, even at his age is always a threat), this time Evra can play and that's a big diference (O'Shea didn't go forward at all, giving our RB clear room to help the attack) and the atmosphere at Old Trafford is awesome and it's always difficult to play there. But I'm certainly not 'affraid' of Manchester because of their current league start.
Celtic has a very physical game and that's a big advantage against the typical portuguese player. Nakamura is an excelent play and can provide Hesselink some chances. Besides that, from what I recall, their defense is strong despite being a little slow.
Copenhagen will always be a question, they should be highly motivated to this CL campaign and I think the first match will be decisive for them. If they lose home against us (should be their easiest match) their morale should drop a lot and I can only see them getting points from Celtic.
So, this group is almost as last season, it should be very tight. I don't see a clear favourite on this one (not even Manchester United).

today Karagounis from benfica said in the papers that benfica stands an obvious easy chance of qualifying. So here is the proof of what I was saying. it's this stuff we hate about benfica around here. Some respect (and even sense of ridicule) would be welcomed.

Celtic is a very strong team, specially at home and Manchester United this year is super impressive. The problem is that benfica fans (and papers) take last years comedy game, in which even the most hated benfica player scored in a game with 2 goals out of 2 shots as a rule to follow.

One thing is true and I've written about it: portuguese have been having UK teams for breakfast in the last years with a ridiculous ease (both club and national team level). Let's see if it remains that way this year in benfica group. The fans (and players) surely sound (over) confident.

PS - About Airjoca saying benfica are playing good it's the perfect example of benfica's overconfidence. Benfica just won 3-0 against a austria wien that lost 7 first team players and that hasn't won a game in 8 this season! :). In pre-season games they took several defeats, including a 3-0 against AEK and other against Sporting CP so hardly "playing well in recent times".

Now, sorry for going offtopic on this one..
I shouldn't even bother to comment your posts..I know you from other forums and blogs and you are one of those guys that we usually laugh for being so incoherent. At least assume yourself as a Benfica hater (as in that post that was once retired;)) and don't try to look like a neutral and posting lies. It's obvious most of Benfica fans were happy with the draw, are you happy with yours? See it? But that doesn't mean we're arrogant. Confident? Sure. Why not? And that newspapers crap, you know as well as me that it's crap everyday for every team ( gostaste do Homem Bomba?).
Since you watched last season matches against Manchester United, maybe you can't tell me if they deserved to win in Old Trafford. Talking about deflected goals...both of them!!
About the match in Lisbon, since you recall it so well, maybe you should tell me what clear chances Man Utd had? Because their fans were the first to say that they couldn't create any. They scored on their first shot (?). Benfica had João Pereira chance, alone with the keeper. 'Last year comedy match'? Benfica started that match without 5 key players. Incluiding Manuel Fernandes, Simão, Miccoli... So yeah, I think that we've made a pretty good match considering our injury list.
I understand your frustration...I just needed to read your posts (my brother is a Sporting fan;)) after that lost a couple of years ago. 'Next season they'll be smashed in every european stadium and we should laugh a lot of it'. Seeing Benfica reach the quarter finals should have been very painful for you. I hate fans that hate more their rivals than love their team.

Looks like no Hargreaves move this season. A pity really, feel bad for him, hopeful that he'll be a professional about it. And that Bayern expand their board room to accomadate the swelling egos of their management.

To be honest I fear our 3 wins in 3 will be the undoing of us this year. Had we been in worse shape through these first few games we'd be scrambling all over hte transfer market, probably bringing in Senna or the like. As it stands I bet we'll get no one else. Which is fine for now, when its just the prem and its still early (lets face it neither fulham nor charlton looked as though anyone reminded them the season had started) but when its winter, we're fighting FA Cup, CL and prem without banned and injured players, I really think we're going to be a bit thin. If the youth are the cover (jones/rossi etc) then surely they should be getting some experience now so they'll be ready.

Trezeguet? Well given his general work rate I'm sure he'll be happy to sit on the bench a bit. Doesn't strike me as a United player, but then he does have that knack of scoring goals, and there are going ot be times this season where we need someone like that. I thought it was Ole, but as long as he's ridiculously cheap I'm alright with it. Is he marketable?

spot on mate, the days of us taking things for granted has long gone, whether its the prem or cl.

Personally cannot wait for the CL start, I would have been more optimistic had we got Senna or Hargreaves. Im just hoping we get a good start and a bit of luck....

he is a proven goal scorer and has a european pedigree, which is what we are seriously lacking as the CL approaches, I would have preffered they go back in for senna but its not gonna happen...

I still feel we need someone, just signing Kuzscak and Carrick isnt enough, we sold Ruud, I think we need another decent striker.
