We get pasted for buying foreign players, maybe everyone can see why now. Better value for money. £16m for Carrick :lol: £7m for Pennant:lol: £500,000 for Fabregas :lmao:
 
It seems everyone is in a major panic at the mo and I cannot see why, okay we havent made any signings, so what, there is still a month to go before the transfer window closes.

Liverpool have been buying players (although pennant and bellamy are hardly world class)

chelsea have a few (although more seem to be leaving than joining)

and arsenal have made jusy one (and thats after a poor domestic season).

Yes we have lost Ruud, which is a shame and leaves us with only Rooney, Smith, Saha and possibly Rossi/Ole (oh how will we cope), yes Ruud was a 30 goal a season man, but everyone forgets we won more trophies when the goals we're shared around the strikeforce.

Okay the MF is still a problem, Carrick will be a quality signing for us and we could do with another MF and a CF (there is still time).

Having Scholes, Heinze and Smith back is a major boost, Scholes had been looking a little bit "lost and uninterested" for the past two seasons, and I think that the threat to his career last season has put him back on track and if he's on form United are on form.

Also cant forget the youngsters coming thru, we have a few decent prospects, and with the Glazers ripping the arse out of the club we're gonna need them cos money is non existent at OT now.

yeah but how much for Walcott and Reyes....
 
Yeah fair point ... Wenger has said himself that he can spend large amounts on players but not all the time. Reyes for me has been a poor buy value wise. Walcott well lets wait and see.
 
Well no more Ruud, so the question now is how well we cope. Let's hope this season Fergie plays a simple 4-4-2, no more experiements, no more shifting people out of position, just the same squad week in, week out (injuries permitting). let them gel and its a quality team:

With Rossi, Richardson, Park, Silvestre and Foster benching it up? Not so bad.

Problem is going to be when Saha sneezes and tears his ACL, scholes gets a bump to the head and can't see, Ronaldo steps over to Madrid and Rooney injures himself attempting to better Zidane's headbutt, but against the goal post.

But you can't really plan a team around injuries can you?
 
Good call on Scholes, this could be a big season for him. Also we have martin (looked good against Celtic) and jones desperate for a chance in middle of the park.

One quarm about Carrick is his strength, for me he doesnt dominate the centre of the park, ala keane, viera, gatusso etc.

I would have liked to see Hargreaves become part of the RVN deal. Would have been good business.

Hence why we need Mascherano. Probably wont happen SAF probably think midfields sorted now.

Buy Mascherano & partner Varrick with him ala Pirlo n Gattuso.

Apparently Carrick was 14.5m! Not bad still got about 20m left for Mascherano.
 
I tell you, I'd feel pretty good about the summer if we ended up having Macherano and Carrick as the CMF of the future. How is Carrick's shooting? I know he doesn't score often, I've honsetly not seen much of him. Can he do Scholes' role?
 
I read somewhere we are in talks with Mascherano I was impressed with him during the world cup.

Carrick is no Scholes, plays a different style. He could complement him well tho in the center.

We could also do with a pacy, young, sharp box player (doent every team). Someone willing to sit on the bench. Abit of a weird shout but someone like Lita from Reading. All of our strikers seem to be target men (Smith, saha) or withdrawn (Rooney, Rossi) would like to see an and out and out stiker someone like defoe (1ft taller!) or robbie Keane to get on the end of balls. Torres would have been perfect.

Personally I think those types of MF are no longer required, Carrick is strong on the ball and a very good passer (people at spurs say he was the best they have had since Hoddle) its juut what we need cos Keano was much more than an enforcer if you look at the opta stats.

I reckon it'll be a three man MF of Scholes, Fletcher and Carrick with a front three of Saha Rooney and Ronaldo.

So with the likes of Smith, Vidic, Evra, Park on the bench with the possibilty of another two signings the sqaud will defo be improved, just hope we're abit luckier with injuries this year....

Keano wasnt exactly prolific infront of goal so im not worried about Carricks goal return tbh....

Defoe could be the one for us although I think Rossi is a similar sort of player.

Mascherano is also a good shout...

exactly. Carrick is more playmaker style midfielder and can get forward alot and has a good shot on him. The only player I can think of thats similar is Pirlo. Its a very good signing simply because he is english and wont find it difficult settling in. At tottenham he was always playing with another defensive midfielser like Davids. Mascherano would be the icing on the cake. I really hope SAF doesnt think the midfield is sorted with carrick only our genuine defensive midfielder.

Up front its not too bad. We have enough strikers that can get goals between them and enough to keep the competition high. Im glad we are not going out signing another striker. Whats the point when we have already spent 19million on smith and saha. Why not get our moneys worth out of them by playing them instead of having them on the bench. Plus with ruud gone Rossi will also get a chance.SAF said he will not loan him out if ruud is gone which is surely good. We are not chelsea where the youngsters dont get a sniff at first team football and we shoudl appreciate that.

BK... according to ManUnited the fee has NOT been agreed yet. They think they are going to get him for 10m? Fergie has said no chance. He is worth more than that.

well he is 30, wanted to leave and had only two years left on his contract. Apparently according to the sun, the glazers ordered Fergie to accept the bid, since fergie was holding out for 15million.
 
Considering his age we did okay out of the Ruud deal, we have had his best years and getting over half back that we paid for him, yes in an ideal world we would have got what Chelsea paid for Sheva but no one pays those prices anymore....

the £18mill for carrick is (like most deals) based on different things, I think the £10mill we orignally bid was more realistic though....

As i read this, i can only smile... If you just think about how much Barcelona and Madrid have been paying for top players this summer, it just seems ridiculous doesn't it?

Without knowing much about Carrick, i can almost guess that he aint a lot better than Katsouranis, Greek international that we signed for €2 Million...

Those players dont need to be world class. we have world class players in main positions bar striker. Benitez works on the policy of balance and hard work. Believe me, Bellamy and Pennant will do well here.
