And good players find space and create chances, they don't give away the ball at every opportunity or cross the ball to Milan players every chance they get.

Wingers are supposed to use thier speed and take on players, then cross the ball to the strikers head not turn thier back and start running towards thier own goal...

Giggs is too old and/or really unfit.

Ok so Giggs and Scholes didnt have one of their better days but how the fuck can you say hes past it the way hes played all season. Just get over it. 0-0 was a fair result but credit to Milan, they were always looking for the away goal and got it. I said before that i fancy us to perform better away from home and we willdo.

alright, perhaps i was a little harsh on our overall performance, i dont think you can hide the fact that you were, too, a little disappointed with the fact that we let a draw slip away from us through one play. i never said the match was shite or anything like that, i think i just let my frustration with our keeper get the best of me, and that is wrong considering we couldve had 2-3 goals if we just had the finishing. i will never in my life say scholes and giggs under-performed, and once again they showed up tonight, however i think they could've offered more.

hutch, that quote put a smile on my face, hopefully we'll be hearing that again come the away leg

IF United manage to get it back to 1-0 it goes to extra time then onto penalties. Which to be honest is close to a loss, given that we have Carroll in goal, and they have the best penalty stopper in the world.

in the CL it was deportivo la coruna.

milan have never beaten an english team away, until now.

it was such a great game to watch, so open. when fortunes shot was going towards the goal, i was already screaming goal!! i was impressed with milans passing game, it was very neat and fluid.

such a pity to lose to a fumble, such a cheap goal to give away.

i would definately like to see a new keeper come in, as the pundits were saying 'peter cech was saving those types of shots in the barca match, the ball would stick to him'.

Great football match last night. Milan came and played some lovely passing football (as I expected) but fucking Roy Carrol. We need a World Class keeper, its about time. Last time we had a world-class keeper was too long ago. I didnt rate Barthez, Howard looked good in his first season, but nothing amazing. Come the summer, sign a Keeper Fergie. You know you want to.

That quote was classic but that was at a time when our team were in a league of their own. I'm not saying we can't do it but it's just unlikely seeing how they did so well without Sheva and Stam.

IMO, the biggest problem (apart from the obvious...) was that we couldn't handle their formation. It was very effective and hard for our defence to control.

it was a good game to watch last night

seen someone saying liverpool will be the only english club left in the competition, i seriously doubt it as i think chelsea have a great chance 2-1 isn't a bad result, liverpool will be ok as long as they put in a decent performance but i've seen most of our games this season and know that we're equally capable of throwing our advantage away, arsenal could struggle and i feel they might go out but you never know if they play as well as everyone knows they can play

united are capable of going to milan and beating them, if it was any other english side that lost 1-0 to them last night i'd have said that was it but you know that united will go there and have a real go at them (hurts me to say something good about united but it's true)

united need to take their chances though, it's nothing personal but i don't think van nistlerooy is clinical enough, he has a great scoring record in europe but if you break it down he's only scored 4 goals against quality opposition like bayern, juve and real madrid and around 12 goals against the likes of deportivo, leverkusen, lyon etc, over 50% of his goals have come against teams where united go out and steam roller them creating chance after chance, i don't think he's scored many european goals in the knockout stages when united really need a goal and i think this could be a deciding factor in milan, if sheva gets a couple of half chances he will score, van nistlerooy on the otherhand may need 3 or 4 decent chances before he hits the net

After all has been said and done,we cant change anything.Milan were better than us last nite.We should have scored but we didnt.They scored when they shouldnt have.Simple as that.Carroll is still shite to me and nothing will make me change my opinion.Giggs,Rooney and Scholes didnt performed when we badly needed them last nite.Life goes on and until the final whistle is blown at the san siro,we will never know if we will proceed on or not.C'Mon United.

I've said this before and I'll say it again. Its true that Carroll is shit but buying a new keeper now is a bad idea cuz even though we don't like Roy, we still have a great defensive record. If we change keepers, we'll lose momentum. The safest thing to do is keep him till the end of the season and then buy someone in the summer. Even if we had bought someone like Buffon or Casillas in january, we still would have conceeded goals cuz every keeper will need time to adjust. We can cry all we want but we'll have to stick with Roy.

IMO, Ruud is better than Sheva at pulling something out of nothing for you when he's anywhere near the box.

Well, first ive gotta say how good Milan we're last nite, i'd waited along time to see them and as they say, "be careful what you wish for"....

They ooozed class, the passing and possesion was 1st class, the experience at this level showed, even Kaka at 24 is well used to CL football, compared to our youngsters, Rooney and Ronaldo who looked off last nite.

We did have a couple of good chances, especially Scholsey who rushed his shot, which is unlike him. Giggs obviously wasnt fully fit which is why it was strange for Fergie to bring Ronaldo off.

I feel we have a chance of scoring over there, especially if Ruud can get two weeks match fitness under his belt.

Anyway, well done Milan, the best team ive seen at OT for about 10 years, gave us a lesson last nite, dont expect the same in a fortnites time though.......

Best football match ive seen in a while - tense, quality, fair, and balanced. Wish i taped it. Thank god for UEFA action i have the whole thing online....

Did you see how often players were hugging or shaking hands? Apart from some cases with kaladze and Heinze, but none the less it was a very even game. In the tunnel before alll the players were hugging, and Seedorf and Ruud were joking to each other in Dutch. It was a quality game with a great atmosphere.

yes it seemend there is alot more respect for milan then for arsenal.. Heinze was the best player on the pitch... he is turning into a complete and utter stud... taking ronaldo out was the worst move of the season by sir alex, he was the only united player that was threatning milan, he was using and abusing seedorf like a traffic cone, his pace on the almost fortune goal was unreal... he looked pissed when he had to come off, and he should have been

Yeah there was a nice respect between the teams which is always good. If stam played i think we would have had a better chance as he is not as fast and agiel as cafu. Carrol was unlucky he is a good confident keeper and as Fergie said the perfect number2, but he isnt world class and thats what a team like United need.

0-0 would of been alot fairer result but it wasnt to be. Its just frustrating every year in CL at OT someone has to make a mistake,if it wasnt carroll it would have been brown or silvestre i mean there is always someone to play for us who is a calamity.

But I noticed that Milan were pretty defensive even before they got the first goal, as if they were playing at home. I'm guessing they'll be parking the bus as Jose would say next match.

I dont think Milan or Italian teams are that defensive as people like to make out. They just have a more patient style of play which we seem to have adopted this year effectively.

Well its abit hard to play offensive with your star striker injured and 2 offensive wingbacks as opposed to 3 solid defenders. If we fielded Tomasson and a 2 man attack, it was too risky because we have no other strikers.

We attempted to avoid any goals at all costs, and wanted to score.

Yeah I know that, but I wasn't talking about all Italian teams, just Wedenesday's game. In fact, last season the more goals were scored in the Calcio than in the Premiership or La Liga. Italy is also home to one the highest scoring teams I've seen these past two seasons, AS Roma. Just look at the leagues top scorers.

Reds Sign Young German Stopper

Manchester United have completed the signing of 16-year-old goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler from FC Cologne.

Zieler arrived at Carrington on Friday afternoon with his parents to sign scholarship forms with the Reds.

Les Kershaw is Academy Director at Manchester United, and he explained to this website the process for bringing Zieler to the club.

"We have a scout based in Germany called Peter Braund," explains Kershaw. "Peter watched him play and recommended the boy to the club.

"He was then watched by our goalkeeping coaches and FC Cologne allowed him to come here for a period of assessment.

"We liked what we saw," Kershaw told ManUtd.com. "We've done a compensation deal with Cologne and he will join us this summer, on 1 July.

"It's a scholarship scheme - the scheme offered to all 16-year-old boys who come to the club."

The signing of the highly-rated teenager from Bundesliga club FC Cologne is further evidence of the United's policy of throwing the net further afield to attract young talent.

Why dont they ever take the easy way out and just sign a great goalie right away? A 16 year old is no good until hes atleast 19. The problem is now, not in 3 years.

I didnt see it that way at all, they closed us down when we had the ball and did it really effectivley, they also broke well but we're composed in attack sometimes having the ball in our half knocking the ball around for fun, they always had an extra man...

did you watch the same game??
