Could not believe that, but it turned out to be true... (i'm sorry Beach).
Well it makes sense since his brother was already there (i thought Beach confounded him with his brother).

This is actually good for English football, just like Moyes' stint at Real Sociedad was good and also the fact that Wales' coach managed Real Sociedad.

IMO English footbal can learn a lot from foreign competitions especially La Liga and Serie A.

Serie A is still the Pinnacle of tactics, although the league itself is in decline a litle bit.
 
We'll see how Gary does, but just by making this move he's ahead of Giggs in any pecking order for the United job surely.
 
Even if he does a half decent job at Valencia he'd atleast have some proper managerial experience. Would love for him to take over the united job when it becomes available. Don't think Luis Enrique himself had a very successful stint as manager before being appointed barca boss.
 
I think for Liverpool's Klopp it will be (relatively) easier to win in Manchester City that at home against Crystal Palace (a very good away team).
Their system of gegenpress is more likely to succeed against a team that wants to win than against teams who come to Anfield to defend.

I also want to write something about Lukaku.
I see that (fans of) teams like Man Utd and Spurs are very keen about transferring Lukaku. Based on his (very impressive) stats that is totally justified.

What those stats mask is the fact that as an Everton forward, Lukaku will always have plenty of space. His strenghts are his speed and his strength in one on one duels.

His weak point is his (sometimes terrible) first touch.

Lukaku is a disaster with our national team, if i'm not wrong he hasn't scored for more than a year. The reason: against the Red Devils most teams come to defend and one of their main weapons is compressing space. Without space, Lukaku is virtually useless.

I wonder if Lukaku is a player that is suited for Manchester United, perhaps a litle bit more for Spurs...

IMO he should stay at Everton.

The Chelsea fans who are currently criticising Mourinho for getting rid of both De Bruyne and Lukaku don't take this into account.
 
@ Gerd: It really is an interesting 'problem' with football today. Breaking down any team of XI elite athletes is incredibly difficult. And teams have sussed that it's the way to get points against United in particular, so I'd say 9/10 teams come to us and just defend. It was even more notable in the CL.

Obviously one solution is to have/buy Neymar, Suarez and Messi - because with those three a team could have 15 behind the ball and still struggle. But for all other teams, what do you do?

It's kind of sad, I enjoy watching non-United matches a lot more this season, because both teams attempt to win the match, which leads to good football.

On Lukaku, I think he probably has another level to move up in terms of understanding and tactics, but agree there are bizarre patches when he barely looks a footballer. So strange. One thing he has against packed defenses is that he's massive - always a threat in the air at least.

Will be interesting. I don't think Kenwright has to sell anyone right now, so can't see any of that (exciting) Everton team leaving in January.
 
I think we need that 'Cantona signing' and everyone knows it, the guy we look to for a moment of magic which can change a game, im sure the likes of Memphis and Martial would grow so much in confidence in not having the kind of pressure they have currently to be the that.
 
Mid table sides are better than they've been for a long time. There are some really good players dotted around at 'unfashionable' clubs.
Top teams struggling to be consistant due to this and other reasons, eg. LVG's style at Utd, City and Arsenal suffering stupid injuries, and just total collapse at Chelsea
 
Have posted once before, but worth noting that having no attacking full backs in the squad is probably partly to blame for how boring we are. Evra/Rafael used to provide a good deal of chances, and Shaw looked our best player for the first month (f*ck you Moreno).

We'll definitely buy a full back in January, with Valencia out for the season too.

Injuries eh...who'd of thought it? At least we're not topping that table yet this year.

Could have and should still have had van persie, di maria, hernandez and januzaj in that squad but whose fault is that.
 
Hernandez who was just player of the month in the Bundesliga...

We sure couldn't use a striker scoring goals, of course. Wouldn't fit the philosphy.
 
I dunno I think we could have done with RVP but he hasn't really proven much in Turkey has he?

Di Maria didn't even wanna be here, good riddance on that one. Hernandez and Januzaj were awful decisions unless Hernandez asked for the move too, then cant really complain.
 
Nice, big, strong Winston Reid chose to complain about Schweinsteiger pushing him in the chest, oh I'm sorry, elbowing him in the face in the press.

Lo and behold, an FA action! It's so weird isn't it, when things are put into the press, the FA act.

For me, doesn't touch his face. But it is definitely a forearm push off. I think we should introduce red cards for each of those in a match, and the FA should have watch slow motion video footage of every corner and free kick from multiple angles to ascertain what happens when.

There'll be no players left.
