Manchester United Thread

On a side note, anyone else think Hernandez has been a let down the season just gone? Maybe it's just a high expectation cause of his first year but I don't think he was half as good last year than previous!

Well he had no rest at all due to the Gold Cup, after having no rest the previous summer because of the World Cup, then got injured in pre-season with that head injury.

Welbeck took his place and then he never really got a consistent run.

Plus the second season is always harder.

He's had a good rest this summer and will be raring to go, let's hope it means he's back to his normal self. Have faith in Chicharito.

Honestly I believe Evra's poor form has been hugely exaggerated because before he got to this stage...he has been nothing but consistent and a key player for us.

It would have been good for him if he wasnt selected for Les Bleus for Euro2012...He would have time to perhaps take a break and fully concentrate for next season. Now I dont know...hopes he comes back a stronger player and plays perhaps a swansong season for United.

I am liking this link with Joao Moutinho.
He is perhaps the best midfield player in current Portugal side.
Nothing short of tenacity and tactical astuteness...he can play it simple and also produce the killer pass.
Sign him up Fergie!

Nah Evra has been truly dogshite for a long while now.

A hell of a lot of goals/chances we concede come down his side of the pitch because he gets forward and then leaves a gaping hole in his spot because he can't be arsed to get back.

Or he is back but he's tucked in to become a third, useless centre back for some inexplicable reason and hasn't closed down the guy about to cross the ball.

His form has been noticeably down since the 2011 Champs League final, after he let Villa float in behind him completely unmarked for the 2nd or 3rd goal, at least that's how I remember it.

Very surprised Fabio has gone to QPR, given that Macheda wasn't given a chance there. That being said, I think Fabio is talented enough that it'll be hard not to pick him.

No idea what connection we have with QPR. Hughes seems to hate us these days, and is a prickly character at the best of times. Did Macheda manage a start in his whole time there? Seems a waste to me, would much rather have sent him somewhere closer to Manchester.

Maybe the club think he needs separation from Rafael, who knows.

Still think we've got a lot of business to get through this summer. Need to offload Berbatov somewhere, Bebe will go away so we don't have him at OT and Macheda is likely to be off too. It's July now and not heard if Pogba is sorted, but word is he's already in Juventus, getting ready to warm their presumably nicer bench.

I'm relegated to accepting we'll be keeping Park on, especially given the tour this summer that his face is all over. And there's not been a word on Fletcher in a while, but seeing him on the sideline of the reserves he's certainly looking pretty Skeletor.

I just can't believe we're not in the market for a midfielder, and with Fabio leaving we MUST have a left back in mind. Fryers is nowhere near ready, Evans is useless there and Evra can, one day, get injured.

Park isn't going anywhere, that's for sure.

Never say never in football but that seems unlikely.

United to need a good CM though and a couple other spots like left back, I agree.

We'll get a LB im sure off that now that Fabio's officially gone, We need a midfielder, out of the names mentioned Moutinho is the only one Im in favor of and even I doubt theirs an interest considering we could have got him much cheaper last Summer.

Moutinho is quality, but it strikes me as reactionary from the press - had he not had a couple good matches he wouldn't have been linked.

I know faith in Fergie and that but man, if we go another year without having filled the midfield I'm going to seriously wonder about his abilities to build a squad within whatever constraints the Glazers have him under (not motivate it, obviously he's still the man at that).

Like most Porto players he will have a HUGE clause in his contract, it's clever business by Porto ensurin they don't lose their top talents on the cheap.

Yeah, couple updates from Fergie for those who didn't see em:

1. Pogba's gone
2. Tony V asked for the number 7
3. Zeki Fryers and his agent seem to be hiding from United (what is wrong with these jumped up little sh*ts?)
4. No word on Fletch
5. Maybe some more transfer activity

So I'm glad we're not looking at other wingers, but we definitely need a LB and a midfielder.

Can anyone think of any players that can play both?

Yes, I can recall a couple of players like that:
- Miguel Veloso
- David Alaba
- Arturo Vidal
- Jan Vertonghen
I would love to see Veloso in our team. He is a great player and moreover he's Nani's best friend :)

P.S. To visualise our new numbers on shirts:

Interesting, we're going to sell $100m worth of shares on the NYSE.

Not sure exactly what that will do - depends on what the Glazers use the capital raised for. Hopefully they won't be able to use the money elsewhere...

Probably use the money to pay the interest on the debt they put on the club -.-

Wow, all kinds of stuff coming out of the IPO filing - most interestingly that they finally acknowledge we can no longer compete for signings or pay the best wages. Wonder what Fergie and Gill will have to say about that.

What I find most curious is that I wonder if the Glazer's modelling and plan were all done pre-takeover of Manchester City. I don't see how they could have predicted the sheer scale of City's spending on all other clubs' ability to buy players and keep the best players happy with wages. What a coup that could be for City's sugar daddies and fans: not only did their spending buy them a league title, but it could also have been the solid gold straw that broke their neighbours backs.

What a strange sport we choose to watch and love.

Amazing: 2009 - 2011:
Player sales: £153m
Player purchases: £125m
(Net of -£28m)
Expenditure on Interest: £245m

Looks like we should be battening down the hatches, things are only going to get worse.

Now that Fabio is off on loan to QPR...We do not have a proper left-back backup to Evra.
Baines is being scaled but a bit too heavy on the price side and lacked quality.
What about that Nathaniel Clyne kid? I thought he was a dead-cert to sign with us? What the latest update on him?

Clyne along with Krasic and Yilmaz is probably joining WHU. Clyne said he would like to stay in London. He can end up in Aston Villa as well to get into the first team. Media said that Sampdoria is also interested in him. Surprisingly, he's to get for free as his contract expired. Such a great player without a club. I would love to see him in our shirt with no. 2 on the back. He can play on both sides of the pitch, although he's more capable to play on RB than LB. Moreover, I'm surprised that neither Clyne nor Zaha are in Olympic GB team... Poor selection imo.

Well...thats why he isnt recently linked to us again. Thanks CR for your update.

I just remembered about that kid we got from Citeh, Frederic Veseli.
Maybe he can provide us with some sort of cover for LB?

There are rumours that we don't have Veseli anymore.

He only signed a six month contract and there has been no news that he's been renewed. Though similarly none that he's gone either.

IMO he's typical central defender... What about Zeki Fryers? Will he get a chance or will he end up in Spurs? He played very well as far as I remember in Carling Cup, but either did Berbs in central defender role... Damn, I really don't know what to think of Zeki... I really would like to see Clyne or Baines in our shirt. Any other speculation about the other left backs?

The word on Zeki Fryers is that he has gone with his agent to try and get a bigger contract or leave...the situation is a bit like Pogba's. Sir Alex didnt really wanna address the situation on his latest press conference. He said he havent heard from Zeki or his agent in a while now.

Some rumours from RedCafe saying that there might be a deal ongoing about swapping Anderson with Alex Witsel from Benfica.Sounds like a good deal to me.Witsel is a monster of a player in CM...exactly the kind of presence and energy we need in the middle now, cunt or no cunt.

Not very convinced by Witsel so I wouldn't be too much in a rush, Anderson's definitely a strange one, he can be majestic on occasions and terrible on others.

reminds me a bit like Rooney but obviously not at that level.

Surely that deal includes money and not just a straight swap even if it was true. In my opinion Witsel is easily superior to Anderson.

And would Anderson go to Benfica having been a key Porto player? These things do happen so it's not too strange but we'll see.
