Manchester United Thread

Got a lot of respect for Owen, I consider him a model pro and it's a shame his time here was blighted by injuries.

Some people will criticize him spending so much time on Horse racing, but quite frankly, considering how some other footballers spend their free time, i'd much prefer they did something like that.

Wish him well.

Number 7 is available again. I love Valencia, but he's not a United #7. Nani has said he doesn't want it.

So, we need a new one. Kagawa? (is it true 7 is unlucky in Japan?)
Love the thought of getting a true playmaker to come in and don the Jersey. If we're honest, Owen was a pretty terrible smudge on that history - recent in particular (Cantona, Becks, Ronnie)

Also, it's the Manchester Senior Cup final (for reserve teams, or sorry, for our reserve team against City's ELITE DEVELOPMENT SQUAD) tonight at Eastlands - want craziness? Of the starting 22, only 9 are English - 7 at United and only 2 for City.

That says something to me about the Premier League - when the reserve teams are interationals. Wow.

about Dortmund and the two players we are linked to, lewandoski has got talent, if Master League is anything to prove by! so does Kagawa. However I quite like Perisic as well. He's a side midfielder so hes an alternative if Hazard does go to City.

Barrios just left so Lewandowski is definitely going nowhere. Not this summer. Neither is the much sought after BVB manager, Jurgen Klopp.

Klopp, Gotze, Lewandowski and co. want to make a better run at CL just like City next year.

Kagawa is the only one leaving and that because he wasn't renewing his contract.

Yeah, Dortmund have said Lewandowski is 100% not leaving - that's not why Fergie and Phelan were there. It was definitely for Kagawa, given he has confirmed he met with United.

I think we'll sign a few players, but other than Kagawa none will be 'major' signings. We just can't afford it right now.

I hope you're in good Kompany. I can imagine this is a difficult time for United fans. Don't take it to Hart. Yaya gotta keep your head up. It wont be De Jong before you're smiling again. Look for the Silva lining. It may sound a bit Clichy but you'll be okay.

lol you came in here to gloat about city..

but you support lfc...

who finished where?

and are looking for a new manager...

think your needed somewhere else lad...

Utd won senior cup 2-0 @ eastlands/etihad.

Good result for the reserves after city beat them earlier this season..

not sure if any of the reserves are gonna be given a shot in the 1st team, but pogba played which is maybe a good sign but who knows wtf is going on there...

It was a really good performance from the Ressies too. Will Keane scored as always, and Pogba/ Tunnicliffe/ Petrucci ran the show.

Of the youth, I think Will Keane will go out on loan hopefully in the prem, maybe in the championship for at least the first 6 months of next season. He's close to making the step up, but needs week in/ week out experience.

Tunnicliffe still looks a bit raw to me, not sure if he's ever going to have the skill to match his energy and athleticism. He'll probably stay, and get on the fringes of the first team.

Petrucci is the mystery man for me. Some serious class, but he is 20 now and this is the first whole season he's managed to stay fit for. I'm not convinced we'll loan him out, he might be the 'Pogba' of next season - hyped up by Fergie as our midfield hope, then stuck on the bench making 5 minute appearances here and there.

I believe Petrucci was kept in the reserves to prove his fitness as he was out for a long time with injuries. He is a rare player these days...A playmaker. He might get promoted into the first team along with the likes of Will Keane and Ryan Tunnicliffe perhaps.

I was pretty excited by him when he arrived from Rome with a bit of a tag, saw a few of his early games and was impressed but he's had a long line of injuries which means his development is probably lacking, we'll see if he's in the first team squad next season or next, if not I doubt he'll make the step up being 23 without wanting first team football and on a reserve like contract.

Berbatov has called it a day at United, feel bad how that all turned out. I think he's a great talent and you'd think someone with his playing style would exude confidence but that wasn't the case at all and he struggled to come to terms with the expectations.

Real shame and I wish him all the best, even if some may say their glad he's gone and all that I do think he did play his part here especially last season he was vital to number 19 which shouldn't be forgotten.

Thank You Berba:))

Yeah very good player and he DID play his part. Wasn't a regular but overall he did contribute to United in the years he was here and had a part to play even if that part was a lot less than he would've liked.

Back to Leverkusen maybe?

They just sold Derdiyok to Hoffenheim.

I rate berbs...

why we didnt see more of him baffles me...

chicharito and wellbeck were so so this season...

He'll do well where ever he goes...

Thanks for the memories berbs, you smoove mo'fo!!!

I've said before the only reason that I can think of why Fergie refused to play Berbatov was to try and win the league without using his most expensive signing - instead trusting bargain buys and youth development. It fits into the narrative he's been trying to throw together. Because Berbatov is so much better than Chicarito (this season) it's embarassing, and he's also a better play right now than Welbeck.

Wish him the best, has been a wonderful credit to himself and United.

in SAF's mind though he's been competing with only Rooney to get into the team. Welbeck and Hernandez have the pace to get in behind and competing against each other.

Yeah, I think the move towards a more fluid forward line, similar to 2006/07, counted against Berba.

A shame because he's been such a class act for us, on and off the pitch.

Does anyone think were bringing in a Centre Midfielder then? :ANX:

being linked with all different positions but that one still doesn't seem to be coming, we can't rely on the same bunch again can we especially now that Pogba's officially off to Juve.

A what now? Fergie no longer believes in central midfield. The position does not exist in his mind...

...still very disappointed with Pogba. Can't help but feel this is more about his agent getting some money, because Juve don't need a CM anymore than United do, and to move country again, to a new language again...I don't understand. Fair play to the lad, it's his decision, but what a blow for United fans.

At the beginning of the season Fergie said we didn't need a midfielder because Pogba and Morisson were so close to the first team. That went well.

According to a number of sources in the UK, we've had our first bid for Kagawa rejected by Dortmund. Somewhat surprised if true, given that the player himself is over in Japan, but who knows.

Can't see us going for Hazard and Kagawa, given the players we already have.

Just seen this, looks legit and were not far off what they want so hopefully this goes through sometime next week :ANX:
