Manchester United Thread

:(( Shame as he's looked really good and might have squeezed some first team games in next season, hopefully it isn't as bad as it looks.

So whats the latest on the transfer front lads?

The Kagawa transfer just makes too much sense. It's like Ozil - everything seemed to line up, and then we didn't manage it.

If you listen to the press, the closest two are Nick Powell and Kagawa.

Hopefully we'll get some movement after the current round of internationals.

Bild writes that we have agreement with both Borussia and Kagawa. Transfer should be announced today and medicals tomorrow.

FERGIE GET CLYNE FOR FREE, FFS!

EDIT:
I've wondered and, as well, twitted to Giuseppe Rossi about his comeback to United... I've always loved him, because of the similarity of his name to mine :D Villarreal are now in Secunda Division, so the transfer would be not too expensive. The only 'but' in this case is the injury of Rossi...

It's true. If there's a time to come back, it could be now.

I'd love to see that! Rossi has unfinished business in Manchester.

He'd end up at City then. :P

I don't think it would make sense when it looks like were moving to a '1' upfront which will likely be occupied by Rooney and we have two potential stars behind him in Welbeck and Hernandez who will want game time also.

It does look like we are going for the 4-2-3-1 formation next season.
Its a pretty balanced formation but more on the defensive side and relying on quick counter attacks.
Holland and Germany will be using this formation at the Euros too I believe.

Besides myself...does anyone else feel Kagawa should get the number 9 instead of the number 7?

Agreed on number 7 - shouldn't be Kagawa imo. Not sure who the answer is, mind, would say Nani but I don't think he wants it.

So assuming we don't get another attacking player, perhaps Welbeck?

Yeah. 9 is usually (though not necessarily these days anymore) for the top scorer of a team, the poacher, the guy who's supposed to at least bang in the most goals.

I don't think 9 suits Kagawa at all. 10 or 7 is more like it.

The number doesn't play. I remember when Jose Manuel Jurado was playing for my second best team - Atleti, with number 9. That was because of the rule in Spanish League (numbers from 1 to 25, GKs - 1, 13, 25), but we can also see Hulk playing with no. 12, which is rather GKs' number or defenders. If we won't sign new striker I would like to see Danny or Chicha with no 9. No. 14 or 19 would be perfect for Shinji.
Available numbers are: 2, 7, 9 (if Berbs leaves), 13 (if Park leaves), 20 (if Fabio leaves on loan; I bet it's favourite option for Shinji), 26 - 99)

Some media suggest that Nani will leave this summer... Fuck me :o Definitely should stay and, if he wants to, we should give him no.7 and increase his salary... Damn, it will be painful to lose Luis this year...

That's the first sign of Rooney's tantrum showing up imo. If Nani looks across Manchester, I'd wager that (deep breath): Toure, Silva, Nasri, Tevez, Aguero, Dzeko, Balotelli, Lescott, and possibly even Milner are making more than Nani. So I can understand why he'd want some more money.

I think Nani will stay, but we'll need to increase his salary.

He's said in the past he doesn't want the number 7, but I guess he's the most suited to it.

I read about Nani wanting to leave too...its a 'wtf?' moment to be honest.
He needs to resume where he left off last season and improve on it.
I dont think we are able to increase his salary without offering a new contract.

Scrap my idea on Kagawa getting the #9...I think United's new number #9 should be given to Welbeck if Berba leaves...Chicarito dosent want it and prefers #14...like how Nani perfers number #17 instead of #7. Cleverley should be given the number #7 just because he idolises David Beckham.

I wouldn't mind seeing Cleverly as #7 at all.

Cleverley is a massive mystery to me. I have no idea how good he is. And I've probably seen him play almost 40 matches.

In the reserves he was always tidy, but not particularly impressive. At Wigan he was good, but not spectacular, and was often not in the game.

Then he had an absolutely storming summer tour, against admittedly limited opposition in friendlies. Then the Charity Shield happened, and he was phenomenal. 3 more matches and then brave Kevin Davies took him out, and that was it for the year.

I can't really pick moments that were impressive, touches, passes, shots etc, but I get the feeling he knows what he's doing and where to be on the pitch.

It's hard to tell if he's really good, or if he's seems really good because he actually has legs and can run - unlike our midfield generally.

You're right and I think you speak for most when you say, he's still somewhat of a mystery and none of us have any idea how good or not he really is.

For me as well, it is too early to say anything definite as I haven't seen the kid play 'enough' times to have a confident opinion on him, but I do get the feeling he certainly knows what he's doing, he IS talented and he can go on to become a very useful player.

Not gonna be a world-beater, but he can become a very good player. That's my opinion. But we'll find out over the next few years if he stays injury free I guess. I think he's definitely got potential.

Tom Cleverley kinda reminds me of a certain Darren Fletcher when he first started playing for the first team back then.A lad who carries the tag of 'the best from the reserves'.Of course the media and some people here and the redcafe are blowing stuff out of proportions but he is indeed talented, has good vision and rarely gives away the ball say compared to...Darron Gibson.Wont be a certain starter now but in another season or two, who knows.

Chelsea/Man City (Delete as necessary) have completed the signing of Luka Modric, after seeing off Manchester United for his signature.

Levy will want to sell imo. Got him in a nice long contract, he wasn't great this year and he'll go for a massive fee. Plus he clearly wants to leave.

If I were Gill though, I wouldn't really want to deal with Daniel.

Excellent, finally some news. £12m (potentially rising £5m more if we win everything - not going to happen) is a steal imo.

Don't entirely see where Fergie is going to play him in our first XI, but excited to have recruited a genuinely talented youngster who has proven something, unlike a lot of our recent signings. I'm guessing our first XI will be:

----------------De Gea-------------
---Rafael----Vidic---Evans---Evra--
-----------Carrick--Scholes--------
----Valencia----Kagawa------Nani---
----------------Rooney-------------

If we manage to replace Scholes with a player who hasn't retired already, that's a relatively young, strong, energetic team there.
