Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

A summer of De Gea, Young and Modric would be absolutely ridiculous. Would take that any day.

I remember Young when he was at Watford, and I couldn't get why O'Neil paid so much for him, but I think he's been way better than I'd expected at Villa. Doesn't always look bothered, but if anyone can sort that out it's Fergie.

Plus he's young, English and plays on the left. He's quite similar to Nani though, so not sure why we'd go for him over an actual left-footed replacement.

One more positive thing, he can actually take a free kick. Which is new for us.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Why not? I think that he's a quality player... But I haven't watched many games with him, maybe someone could enlighten me.

He's quite good, but he's nowhere near good enough for top level football. He'll produce good (but not excellent) stuff against the run of the mill teams in the Prem, but against the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, City, Liverpool and the best of Europe he might as well be on the bench.

Oh and I don't like him as a person either, seems like the sulking, big headed type.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Modric might be realy true rumour, he´s an alternative version of Sneijder, a great playmaker you guys need after Scholes retires..

But obviously i hope you won´t get him.. ;)

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Problem is Modric will cost £40m or something cause Spurs will fleece us good and proper.

I love the bloke though (despite him looking out of his depth against Madrid), he's an absolute joy to watch. Take him in a heartbeat.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

It doesn't bother me since I think some of our fans would do the same if the shoe was on the other foot.

Only problem is misfit seems to enjoy doing this a bit more often than the average fan.

I'm sure if one of us had done this to such an extent as misfit has in the 'Pool thread, we'd probably have been banned or put on other's ignore list by now.

lighten up suzy, all in good fun

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I was gutted as many of you are here in this thread I am sure. However, we have to move on and learn from this. Winning or losing is a part of football but watching your favorite team being outplayed and outclassed in almost every area is certainly excruciating and demoralizing.Bring on some great transfer news now.Cheers.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I guess we have to wait and see what this summer brings. We'll get a chance to test the new squad vs barca soon this summer in US anyways.

cant help but say that no matter how great this season was, to me, this season was still disappointing

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Speaking off youth players for a change we do have 2 top talents in the likes of Pogba and Morrison who if both develop their potential will become integral to our first team. We just need a Scholes replacement like Banega or Modric for now.

I still hope we don't buy Young but we'll see I just feel we should start to shape Nani in now as permanent fixture in the side, I do think he only needs to add more goals to his game now, he should be targeting 20+ a season.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Moving on to team matters and the expected arrival of Ashley Young it would leave Nani somewhat left out in the cold even though he probably has been our most effective player for a seasond and half. I was thinking maybe he could be moved into an attacking midfield role with his shooting and dribbling abilities.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Not at all but what it will do is basically mean just like in midfield we just rotate all the time on the wings and it could hinder Nani from pushing on further, I think its sensible for the league but a bit short sighted for the European Cup.

EDIT

I think were going past the balance IMO of having 22 good players and 3 top players, we should really be targeting a set 7-8 players who are top class with another 12-13 good players with the youth filling the rest of the spots.

WOW! emotional n very honest statement :WORSHIP:

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Paul Scholes officially retires and joins the coaching staff!!!

Great great player that will be sorely missed. Great that he decided to join the coaching staff to pass on his experiences and skills to the younger ones. One of the best English midfielders in the history of the game!

Now I wonder who will be his replacement....

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Wow, the day finally arrives...sad but I think it's time. I'd hate to think that there's a bunch of 'new' football fans that know him more for his tackling ability than his genius.

Could write a long eulogy but just too much to say. One of the classiest, technical and brilliant footballers I've ever seen. Scorer of some of the best goals that we'll ever witness (volley against Villa...droool), player of some of the smartest, most incisive passes and generally the conductor on the pitch. United have been so lucky to have him for so long, and we'll never find a little genius like that again, I fear.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Hard to imagine we'll never see him play football for us again, barring the testimonial of course...

The Barca players were queuing up to swap shirts with him after the final, that says a lot about his abilities.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Thank You, Paul Aaron Scholes.

17 wonderful, trophy laden years.

Simply irreplaceable.GGMU.

Just curious, who got to swap kits with Scholesy at Wembley?

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Iniesta.

Master stroke to get him coaching for us by the way, not that it wasn't an obvious thing to do. But I couldn't wish for a better person to be coaching our young midfielders.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I'm slightly disappointed he didn't spend a year with Oldham. He would have destroyed opponents, both with his passing and with his studs :)

But yes, will be a wonderful tekkers influence on the young ones. If he can imbue even a fraction of his vision and reading of the game into Msrs Pogba and Morrison, we could be in good shape in a year or two...

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

i didn´t expect this.. especialy after i read they wanted to give him one more year.. he retires before Giggs and he´s few years younger than him..

well i think the coaching role was to good not to take..

good luck in future, except against LFC :P

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I'm slightly disappointed he didn't spend a year with Oldham.

Contrary to popular belief he was never an Oldham fan, always United so I doubt it ever crossed his mind to leave us.

Massively sad day but in truth it was probably right, he tailed off terribly after a good first month this season and prolonging his career either on the bench or getting sent off for kicking people wouldn't have been a fitting way to end it.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

:(( You knew it was coming but it still feels like crap. What a COMPLETE midfielder, It really won't be the same for him not to be in the squad.

YouTube - The class of Scholes

Major changes in the coming weeks and months.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

he was/is a great player. Rubbish at tackling but that was part of the fun watching him

never heard anything bad about him off the pitch, seem to just want to play football and i admire that

funny how Barca manager was asked which player he would want from utd and he said scholes. i could actually see scholes being able to play in that team, not all the time though but he is technically good enough to play their passing style

Wasn't it Bury he wanted to join?

Sounds like it was all a myth. I swear I remember reading somewhere that he wanted to play at Oldham one day. Oh well, guess it won't be happening!

Can't imagine him being all that vocal training the young'uns. More like just saying, look: do this, before pinging the ball 40 yards into the corner flag.

yep. there are some players u just wouldn't ever wanna see retire. and i'm not even a united fan!
however mate, defining scholes "complete" is quite the understatement. he's been one of the very best midfielders of his generation. legendary player. :WORSHIP:

will man utd organize a goodbye match? he sure as hell deserves it. and i'm sure lots of icons of european football would wanna play to give their tribute to paul. :))
