So either we clearly didn't learn a thing from 2009 or it just doesn't matter what you learn against Barcelona.

Or both?

Either way that was an embarrassment yet again.

Valencia was particularly awful, as were Giggs, Hernandez and Evra.

Carrick for once had a decent game against such an opposition though which was at least something to take, though he couldn't do much on his own against their midfield.

Problem is, even with massive spending, I don't see who we buy that could go out there and change things against Barca. We could spend £300 million and they'd still have all the ball and pick you apart at will so what's the point?

with Mascherano as CB i saw you winning this, especialy first 10 - 15 minutes i realy thought it´s yours...you started amazing, Barca was a bit shocked, but then it felt appart and the midfield of Barca vs. yours non existing was decisive..

i think you should start with more man in midfield and with just one striker up front, supported with Nani - Valencia or simply without Giggs in midfield..

tonight it was just about the tactics and giving Barca space.. but then again, nobody can match Barca currently in possesion football and tricks, nobody.

I think MUTD were excellent in the 1st half. I think Barca`s keep away made Mutd slow down and everyone was saying Barca are burnt out they seem to hold up and release at key moments. 1st time I see Mutd not use the wings as they normally do. The difference in shots at target and possession says it all.

Where is berba ?

well to say the true I know this that 10 first min gonna be of United and I dont thought that gonna win .... WHY ? if u remember was same as 2 seasons ago they play just 10 first min and was one replay of that match I think !

Far from embarrassment, I doubt any team could've handled Barca tonight.

I think we should have gone with 3 in central midfield but we probably would've still been outplayed to such an extent. Barca thoroughly deserved the win.

I was disappointed with Evra though. Seem to lose Pedro for the first and was slow closing down Messi for the second.

Unlucky, I just felt some of your midfielders (Carrick and Giggs) didn't really perform. Rooney kept having to drop back to pick up the ball, because those two didn't really do their jobs, and it left Hernandez isolated upfront. Thought Vidic had a good game especially with Evra looking so dodgy.

You cant blame anyone but Xavi for the first goal. If Pedro was unmarked for a few seconds then you can blame the defence. But time between Pedro peeling off the defender and the killer pass was like half a second. There's no way you can stop that unless you knew the pass was coming beforehand, which you couldnt have known seeing how Pedro didnt look like a realistic option until a split second before the pass. Dropping the blame on Evra would be unfair.

As for the whole game, I think we pretty much learnt you cant play a team like them with 4-4-2, and also that we're still lacking a proper defensive midfielder.

Maybe our standards as a team had dropped because of the lackluster competition domestically. Its fair to say we won the league because the competition let us off on so many occasions. In previous years we walked into the final very comfortably and with the confidence we gained from knowing we were arguably the best team in Europe. This time around, would you say we entered the final as even the 2nd best team in Europe? I personally wouldnt say so.
Still very proud of the fact that this was our 3rd final in 4 years. So things are definately looking good for the future. And we're about to enter the "Post-Fergie's Fledgling era" which has me excited.

You have a great team, you have been simply unlucky to find us in front in our best moment. When Messi is in form, you can't stop him. And if Xavi and Iniesta begin to keep the ball then you know you're in danger. For the first 15 minutes united played very well, but the moment Barcelona adjusted the midfield then the match was unbalanced. I think Xavi and Messi showed their intelligence turning the match trend.

Rooney scored a great goal (and in my oppinion it's not Giggs offside when players are so close, it's impossible to see live so no one should moan about it), and it speaks volumes of how great Rooney and Giggs are. It was a merit of Barcelona to limit United to 3 shots on goal, but there was danger everytime you reached the area. Not many teams have accomplished this during the season. That's why we are the best deffense in Europe, because we defend with the ball.

I would like to cheer up United fans as this was a great final and United is doing legendary seasons. Even if you lost tonight, your team is writing history and is clearly the big rival to beat alongside Madrid. I would love to meet you again in another final, because your fans have been classy, your coach has been absolutely classy also (congratulations to Fergusson for his press round, this is how big guys are suposed to loose) and your players have been noble in and out of the pitch, trying to play good football. Great referee too, it helped to see a great spectacle.

I know it's a sad night, but you must cheer up, stand up and come again next year. You will, for sure. You deserve it.

I dont think any of the United fans feel embarrassed by the performance. I think we all accepted that you lot were the superior side before the match even began. But for me personally, I dont like to just forget this match and move on. There were still some lessons to learn for us.

I though Rio could've done better with Messi's goal, he was too buy turning to the other defenders and giving orders instead of getting into a better spot.

Nothing we could have done more than that. Barca were simply on another level. No team in the world would have done any better.

We were slightly unlucky in how clinical Barca were, normally they tease you a bit more by missing great chances, but they were sensational last night.

No other team could have won the CL this season imo, barring untimely injuries. They were astonishingly good.

19, CL final and a reminder to Fergie that we need alot of work to reach the highest level. Good season? Hell yes.

Wow, we got mullered!!

Barca are the best team in the World and showed on the biggest stage last night.

But we had a great season, made history, got to a Champs League Final.

Looking forward to going back to wembley for the season opener!!

It doesn't bother me since I think some of our fans would do the same if the shoe was on the other foot.

Only problem is misfit seems to enjoy doing this a bit more often than the average fan.

I'm sure if one of us had done this to such an extent as misfit has in the 'Pool thread, we'd probably have been banned or put on other's ignore list by now.

It's the problem you end up with if you leave your CBs having to push up to deal with Messi, rather than having someone sit in between the lines and restrict the space you leave him.

I think it's nice we've given them something to celebrate, better than nothing right? :P


In regards to Barcelona, I actually think there are teams better equipped to challenge them than us, (Chelsea for example, with their energy and power)but then we'd have to be confident of beating Chelsea, that's the beauty of football.

Let's hope your prayers for a marquee midfield signing are answered. I've no doubt we'll be spending more than the money on De Gea anyway, you can sense it.

You have to just hold your hands up really, were not playing just a normal great side IMO, They are 2-3 levels beyond us and everyone else.

We could spend 500M and they could still beat us 5-0, ask Real. It's unfortunate for SAF who finally gets the balance right to win the CL and the Barcelona Machine shows up.

Well, crap, didn't Sir Alex listen to whatever advice Mourinho game him? MIDFIELD damnit!

You lot needed Fletcher, Anderson and maybe Park in midfield trying to hold Barcelonas midfield. Those 3 players would be fast and strong enough to try. And then Rooney Nani and maybe Valencia upfront for the counters.
