Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.
Congrats for reaching the final! It's going to be a great one against you again guys! I hope we see great football there and the best wins!
Actually, I don't think there's any favorite. Man Utd has an incredible history recently of performing and compete in the big matches, so i'd say it's 50/50 and will depend greatly on how both teams prepare the match tactically and who scores first, as usual in finals.
Quickness/Speed vs control may be a way to define it. Barcelona will try to hold long possessions as usual, so Man Utd must do a great pressure up. That worked the last time we met in a final until we scored, and I think it's the only way to play against us: trying to break our circulation and go straight to goal, crowding the midfield but using the wings a lot at the same time.
The position of Messi and Rooney are keys. If Messi has a good night, there's not much to do to stop him, other than kicking him. On the other side, Rooney is vastly superior to Busquets in practically everything, and if he is able to roam between our CBs and DMF, he can destroy us opening to the wingers (Nani and Valencia are the kind of player that really can hurt us).
So, if I were Fergusson, I would play without any striker and a 4-3-1-2, with wingers wide open and a solid midfield. It may seem very deffensive, but it isn't really, because once you recover the ball, the team always has the chance to play short or long and you prevent Alves and Abidal to go up. The 3 DMFs can change into a triangle, a line or free roam to pressure the ball. It's similar to what Mourinho has tried to do, but with an emphasis on the wings and prepared to play offensive if needed.
