Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

One thing you can bet on, if not injured and fit, Park WILL start the final. Probably ahead of either Nani or Valencia.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I'd prefer it if Valencia played in the final if it was between him and Nani.

Nani is capable of the more sublime but Valencia is a machine and his energy and tracking back will be invaluable.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I think Park will start on the left, he'll be very useful in tracking Alves' forward runs.

As for the right wing, I'd probably go for Nani on the basis that left back is the weakest area of Barca's defence and we could really attack that side with Nani. I think he's got a bit more of a cutting edge going forward than Valencia on that side.

Depends, if Puyol keeps playing left back or not.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah, it's very likely we'll see both Fletch and Park on the pitch. They'll be useful to try and break Barca's play.

Still, 4-5-1 didn't work out too well last time. I'd like us to take a gamble and start with (a fresh) Hernandez upfront. He and Tony V are our best player to stretch defenses and will force them to always look behind their back. Plus Puyol and Pique aren't the fastest of defenders.

I just hope we won't play it defensevely by relying on counter attacks. It'd be suicide against Barcelona.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Congrats for reaching the final! It's going to be a great one against you again guys! I hope we see great football there and the best wins!

Actually, I don't think there's any favorite. Man Utd has an incredible history recently of performing and compete in the big matches, so i'd say it's 50/50 and will depend greatly on how both teams prepare the match tactically and who scores first, as usual in finals.

Quickness/Speed vs control may be a way to define it. Barcelona will try to hold long possessions as usual, so Man Utd must do a great pressure up. That worked the last time we met in a final until we scored, and I think it's the only way to play against us: trying to break our circulation and go straight to goal, crowding the midfield but using the wings a lot at the same time.

The position of Messi and Rooney are keys. If Messi has a good night, there's not much to do to stop him, other than kicking him. On the other side, Rooney is vastly superior to Busquets in practically everything, and if he is able to roam between our CBs and DMF, he can destroy us opening to the wingers (Nani and Valencia are the kind of player that really can hurt us).

So, if I were Fergusson, I would play without any striker and a 4-3-1-2, with wingers wide open and a solid midfield. It may seem very deffensive, but it isn't really, because once you recover the ball, the team always has the chance to play short or long and you prevent Alves and Abidal to go up. The 3 DMFs can change into a triangle, a line or free roam to pressure the ball. It's similar to what Mourinho has tried to do, but with an emphasis on the wings and prepared to play offensive if needed.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if SAF took a shot and decided to play both Hernandez and Rooney. Rooney has basically played as an advanced midfielder in some of the game he's been in. It'd still be a 4-5-1, even with him playing.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

It´s CL final, you have to play the best you have..

I also think the lineup would be with Rooney as fake AM and Chicharito up front..

hope Barca win though..the same reason as Madrid fans will cheer for you :D

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

So, title decider tomorrow then. Cripes. Wouldn't have believed you if you'd said in August we could win the league by beating Chelsea at home in May, so I guess we can't be too worried about our little 'blip' in form.

I wonder if Fergie will keep with the formation that worked in the CL, or surprise Ancelotti. Chelsea are obviously riding high a bit at the moment, but if want to win the league we can't let them beat us at OT. It's pretty much that simple.

Just hope Fergie doesn't go uber defensive and try to nullify the game, if he does that I fear for us on set pieces, and the thought, nightmare, of John Terry scoring the winning goal is seriously distressing.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I think its very obvious we'll be going for the kill, we very rarely concede 2 at home so if we can get the first goal we should be in control.

The players should be fresh with most of them getting a rest on Wednesday so no excuses really.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I predict a draw 1:1.. Chelsea is on form and you don´t loose at OT..

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I can't see a draw to be honest, which is slightly worrying but I think someone will win.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Hopefully Manchester United take the title as I really cannot stand the Chelsea model.

In the CL final I can see Park being tasked to track Messi all match.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

WOOOOOHOOOOOOO! :DD

99% CHAMPIONS! 2 weeks for the nerves to calm down whilst enjoying Number 19 before Champions League Final week comes around.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Park HAS to start against Barca. It was a superb performance, probably the best I've seen from him in a United shirt. He was literally everywhere, especially in the first 20 minutes where it felt like Park v Chelsea. He's the ideal player to break Barca's play and could make a big difference for us.

And let's not forget about Giggs, who carried his form from the Champions League, and Valencia who, to put it simply, had Cole in his pocket the whole game.

I got really nervous after they scored one but it was well deserved that United won. What a season this could turn out to be.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

The only problem for me was how wasteful we were, could EASILY have smashed them for 4-5 today. can't afford to waste chances like that especially against Barcelona as we'll only get 1 or 2.

Great match this one!

Park and Van der Sar were simply amazing today, Hernandez aswell, a real "fox in the box".

Well done Red Devils!

I must agree with You, todays performance was great, we smashed Chelsea, but our effectiveness was very poor. Our players are real heroes, Van Der Sar just perfect, Park Ji Sung and his steel lungs, immortal Ryan Giggs, mr. Stay Calm Rooney and Chicharito, one of the greatest transfers. All team played great, and i'm very happy, that we have almost our nineteen title :)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Wooooohooooooo! I'm obviously pleased about the result, but more about the performance. We were excellent today, all over the pitch (cept finishing!).

1 more point. I hope we start Berbatov against Blackburn to give him a chance to 'atone' for this time last year.

It's not quite a formality, but we're so close now. Just need to focus and get the job done.

Will be interesting to see what happens to Chelsea. On paper that is still the best team in the league, but they just couldn't keep it going. Big off season for Torres in particular, hopefully he comes back to something like his best form next season. Magnificient player on his day.

Oh and throw Mickey Owen in for the last two matches in the 92nd minute. Would be nice for him to complete his domestic medal set :)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Park and Valencia showed exactly why Nani will sit on the bench against Barca despite huge improvements as a player this season.

Park is a f'n freak!! I would love to have him in my team!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

as much as i hate to say it,congrats on winning the title this year.outstanding performance from the likes of park, valencia, giggs, rooney.chelsea never even had a shout.next year is gonna be our year though(this time it most definitely is).

PS:Dont bother turning up at wembley.Barcas gonna school you lot.......

Should be the other way around, Premiership title this season is down to him

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Congrats, "number 19" is heading your way and it was inevitable really. Funny season to do it though, you've hardly blown the league apart but then no team has been good really. Even so, you've done it while not having your greatest team and that deserves credit.

Going to be better next season I reckon. Chelsea will likely replace Carlo and we'll get stronger, City will likely change things up ... and Arsenal will probably just be Arsenal.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Isn't next season the last one before the UEFA financial fair play rule comes into effect? If so, I'd expect some very big spendings from Chelsea and City this summer before it's too late.

So yeah, things could be a whole lot different next season.
