Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Valencia's been a great buy - you'd struggle to find a better winger in our league.

Carrick has 3 prem medals and a champions league medal which hinged quite largely on his performances. So erm, yes I'd spend £18m on that.

Anyway, credit to Newcastle defended well, if were a bit unambitious at home in the second half. Can't blame, they clearly set out their stall at half time to get a point, and they did.

Good refereeing in my opinion. Both players went over with minimal contact looking for it. Contact is allowed.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Valencia has been unimpressive for me when I've saw him in a Man U top, I liked him with Wigan, but not for me at Utd.

Carrick for me is utter gash, half decent passer of a ball, but jeez I know a guy in the Kilmarnock team I'd have before him in my team. As for league medals in back pockets, I know plenty of players with plenty and more and their ability doesn't justify it.

Guess as they say, opinions are like arseholes, we all have one.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I agree with both the penalty decisions tonight. Cant believe Nani wasn't booked though for 4 clear dives. And Fergie after the match saying the Hernandez one was a clear penalty but he didnt see the Lovenkrands one :APPLAUD:

I dont think we had much choice other than to sit back in the second half with a half fit Ameobi and only Ranger to replace him. We really need to invest the Carroll money in the summer.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

It was a fair result. We wasted too many chances, and Hernandez' weak first touch robbed him of a couple of great ones too.

Can't argue much here. Its still in our hands.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I'm still more worried about Chelsea. No one seems to have noticed them creeping up behind Arsenal and ourselves. They have an easy run in (I think 4 straight home games?) and could very well take maximum points. And we won't.

Squeaky eh?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

If it was us trailing Arsenal with the same points situation, no-one would be saying it's over. Different mentalities I guess, we'll see how they react to being given this slight chance.

Last night, we were generally just quite average, played OK in the 2nd half, but again we didn't find the top gear that has been so illusive. Said this a lot, but I still reckon we're lacking that drive from midfield, Anderson wasn't really sharp, but we need a player like him or Fletcher to provide that urgency in the middle.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I was really disappointed with Ando. He's obviously been out a long time, but lacked all of his usual drive and, more worryingly, his touch. Hoping it was just him getting back up to speed, but with Scholes, Hargreaves and Fletcher all missing for most of the rest of the season, we seriously need him to start performing.

Really should have won last night - performance wasn't as, well, serious as it should have been. And am I the only one that didn't even see Mickey Owen playing? Did he touch the ball?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Didn't know where to post this but its regarding the current home kit. I never picked it up this season, but I'v seen pictures with the black devil on the left arm, and some without it and continues the pattern like the right arm. Was there 2 versions of these sold?

If we were in Arsenals position this thread would be full of United fans saying we've got no hope.

Meh, Im greedy and wanted a win so we could wrap it up by the weekend. could still happen if Spurs win tonight but less likely.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Even a draw in the Arsenal/Spurs game would be good, so we still have hope. I think we're hitting the panic button too early here. That game hasnt happened yet.

Going back to our performances, I think Giggs needs to play more in the center where Anderson normally does. Giggs is great on the left but atleast we have options there. There's no one else like Giggs who can play through the middle and we really need that.
I honestly believe that once we get that defensive midfielder, everything will click into place. We seem to have the kind of players who like to express themselves without the worry of leaking goals. Players like Anderson, Gibson, Carrick and arguably even the likes of Rooney, Valencia and Nani play at their best when they know we're secure at the back and can enjoy themselves when attacking.
Every top team has a fighting defensive midfielder. Even if they arent technically skillful, they still know how to break or disrupt the opposing team's move. Some might even be pricks but they still do the job.
Guys like Essien, Diarra, Motta, Cambiasso, Gattuso, De Jong, Busquets, Viera, etc, the list goes on. We've never had a player like that since Keano left us. The only thing that comes even close is Hargreaves and the last time he was playing regularly, we won the Champion's League.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I agree Rune, but who is there in the market that we can get as that dmf??? I just don't see one that we can purchase this summer...I think we all know that we desperately need one, but who can it be, and how much will he cost?

Well, after the draw from Arsenal and the win by Chelsea....the title race got a little more interesting (and scary). Chelsea's remaining games really aren't that difficult, and i hope we don't...but if we lose points against Arsenal, they really can come back and leap frog over.....

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I was thinking - you'd have to give Chelsea some credit if they do pip us to the title. They'd of had to win something like 13 games in a row (or 12/13). That's crazy form for the end of the season.

I think it also just shows how hard is to balance 3 or 4 cup competitions.

Still, I desperately want us to win on Saturday. Almost our biggest game of the season now.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I can't see it myself, think you might have enough points, but guess you can never tell.

No need to worry abuot Arsenal now, if they needed to gain 1 point from 5 games against Blackpool, Blackburn, West Brom, Wigan and Wolves, they'd still fail.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Will be intriguing how we balance the Champions League ties with Arsenal and Chelsea.

I think worst case scenario we should be 1/2 points ahead with 2 games to go against Blackburn and Blackpool.

To be honest, I dont know either. But he doesnt have to be a great player, even someone dirty would do.
I almost dont even want him to be a good footballer. Just someone who's gonna be an asshole and disrupt the opposition. Someone the opposing fans are gonna hate. :P

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I don't see us giving a new contract to Hargreaves...sad, cause I always thought he was the player we needed, but he's constantly injured and his chances may have past by....

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Special player, we needed someone like that since Ronaldo left who nicks us games, seems to have gotten a bit sloppy on the ball in recent games but the goals keep coming.

Onto Europe, hopefully we don't take them lightly should have some fresh legs going into that with Rafael, Vidic, Carrick, Park, Giggs and Scholes.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I was on the verge of releasing a big rant on him until he scored. He was very sloppy for most of the game. Not making the right runs, slipping and landing on his backside, and then denying Nani a goal whilst on the floor, just lots of little things.
But the boy doesnt give up and made me eat my words. Lots of people have put in great performances this season but if we win the title and had to credit one man, it might have to be Chicharito. He's scored a lot of important match winners for us.
Plus the understanding between Rooney and Chicharito is looking bad for Berba. If we're to get a high profile keeper and midfielder, Berba might have to fund it.

And a quick shout out to Anderson for stepping up a gear. He did well. I love how he runs at the opposition and always looking to penetrate through the middle. He's still a little off on his passing but he's looking promising again.

And at an important time too. The remaining games are tough as hell. Schalke, Arsenal, Schalke, Chelsea. If we get through those, the remaining games wont even matter. We fail and the season falls apart...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah in general he's probably just tired. Long first season in a hectic league whilst playing more than he/we might've expected in other competitions as well.

I forgive him for the goals he gets though, invaluable. The joy on his face is infectious as well, love the bloke.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Don't forget if you live in the United Kingdom these two forthcoming programmes.

United a dramatization of the Busby Babes and the terrible effects of the Munich disaster and how Jimmy Murphy led the club back to it's feet in it's wake.

This is on today at 2000 BBC2. And next Thursday the 28th of April at 2100 is a profile of a truly great player in all respects Bobby Charlton 'Bobby Charlton Football Icon'.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Nice one, thanks. Really want to check out the Busby Babes one.
