Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Rooney has been a class apart again the past few games, so I don't think anyone will be starting ahead of him.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I fear Berbatov just signed his own transfer with that miss. Say what you want, but he showed nothing after that to demonstrate that he's a United player. Hernandez created more with 10 men against an ultra defensive city in 10 minutes.

Saddens me, but Berba is a luxury player. And our squad is too thin to carry him.

Yes we can't afford to carry our and the league's top scorer despite relying on him heavily in the first half of the season.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Look I want to love Berba too, but I just don't think he's the right CF for us. Any quality striker is going to score goals for us, it's the way we play.

We needed a big performance from him yesterday and yet again he didn't put one in. Why do you think it's been 2 years since he scored in Europe? He just doesn't get it done on the biggest stage for us. I can't explain it, but its been 3 years now. If he's going to be replaced by £6m 22 year old new to European football, I think that says it all.

I wish it had worked out, I do, but for both the player and us, I think he'll be moved on.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Come on boys. Beat Newcastle, beat Everton and we're more or less there. That's all I really care about tbh. I want 19, everything else is a bonus. I'm pretty sure Fergie feels the same way.

We've got a fired up Rooney, Rio and Vida playing at the same time (!) and hopefully Anderson can push his way back into the team alongside Carrick. I'd of bitten my own hand off for a 6 point lead with 6 to go at the start of the season, so no point being too down!

Any wha twould be more City than to beat us on the way to a final and lose it ?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

So what your saying is, you want us to get rid of Berbatov because he doesn't do it on the "big" occasions even though he's rarely picked for these games because of Rooney and Hernandez.

Lets say Berbatov is a flat track bully, hes got 21 goals this season with about 6 games to go. a very good season for a goal scorer that is, forgetting about the genuine world class ability he has as a footballer. do you think you can find someone that has his quality, can score 20+ goals a season and then be left out when the big nights come? No thought not.

Were lucky to have him.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I was hoping Bolton would win (with Utd a reluctant 2nd), but now the FA Cup has become a match between the two most undeserving teams in the league imo, City by being nothing more then a yo-yo-team with some money and Stoke for being an American Football team. I guess Stoke just edge it for the win as it would be comedy gold for City to lose it.

I'd want Berba to stay as much as anyone right now, he's really won me over. But lets be fair here, how many of those goals came from the same game? A more interesing stat would be how many different games Berba has scored in. Its no use playing 10 games where Berba scores 9 in 3 games and nothing in the remaining 7.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yep, a quick check of my fantasy league says;

He's scored in 11 matches against;
1*Newcastle (3-0)
1*West Ham (3-0)
1*Everton (3-3)
3*Liverpool (3-2) (match 5 of season)
5*Blackburn (7-1) (match 15)
2*Sunderland (2-0)
1*Birmingham (1-1)
3*Birmingham (5-0) (match 20)
2*Blackburn (3-2)
1*Bolton (1-0) (match 30)
1*Fulham (2-0)

So he has scored 11 against Blackburn and Birmingham, another 3 against a midtable/relegation side (which was Liverpool at that point in the season). The list of teams really does read like a who's who of mediocraty.

He's not good enough in the current system to be 1st choice imo, but he definitly has the quality needed to win a team the league. One of the problems Liverpool have had for some time is that if the 1st choice are out the back-up just doesn't have the skill to break a defense down and score. Berbatov does have that. So aslong as he is happy to continue to share time with Hernandez it's worth keeping him.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Ronaldo's goals have always been spread out a lot better. He rarely gets 3 or more goals per game. He's always getting single goals or braces.
In 07/08 when he got 42 goals for us, he scored one hatrick all season.

EDIT
Just checked his 08/09 stats. He didnt score a single hatrick that year.
Berba on the other hand has 2 hatricks and a 5 goal game to his name this year. Not that he should be discouraged but 11 goals from 3 games is incredibly inefficiant.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

As I said, I think Berbatov is a footballing genius, and his quality is absolutely undisputable. And as a 3rd striker, I think he's wonderful, a real asset to the team. If he's willing, I'm sure Fergie is more than happy to keep him around as part of a 4 man striker rotation.

But.

If there was a match tomorrow we had to win and I could pick any two strikers in the premier league to play in it for us, he wouldn't be there. If you had to list the best strikers in the league, I'd go with: Rooney, Van Persie, Tevez, Drogba and Bent.

And Berbatov is so good, at so many levels, that it really just depresses me that he isn't in that list. He has height, decent pace, a touch from the gods, he's two-footed can finish in any number of ways and before his time with us was pretty handy with his head. And yet, he still underwhelms. It can't just be work ethic. My personal belief is that he just doesn't read the game very well.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

think its absolutely insane not having nani(as much of a tit he is)in the pfa player list while fat charlie adam is there.hands down, nani should get it this season.but no,jesus incarnate gareth bale or rather sly sports will win it.bale has had a few good games(barring inter,i cant even recall)but he's lucky the media is still going on about the footballer of the century performance he put in a defeat at the san siro.absolute joke.....

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Whatever - it just shows that footballers aren't very bright, and are just as easily swayed by the media as the general public. I'm not too surprised.

I hope the PFA player of the year manages more than one assist next year though. For a winger, that's pretty crap.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Doesn't help that they have to vote in Jan/Feb. But it happens every year, Giggs won it for playing 15 matches (or something like that). Although he deserves every accolade he gets, it was still a pointless award.

Anyone think Nani isn't on it because he just pisses off too many players with his moaning and diving? Skill and effectiveness-wise he has been the best player for the whole season for me.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

But that never stopped Ronaldo so why Nani?

Beachryan if you'd rather have Bent than Berbatov then your mad. Also you just pointed out he's not our "main" Striker yet you than think he MUST be in their alongside players who are?

We really can wrap up the league this week, 6 points from Newcastle and Everton and were standing on the finish line.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Obviously we'll have to agree to disagree on the Berb. I'm more than happy to keep him around as a 'free' 3rd striker, but feel like such a talented player should be playing every week somewhere else. And he'll never be our first choice up front.

In a 4-5-1 I'd take Bent over Berba every time. Which, unfortunately, is what Fergie plays every other match.

Agree on the next two matches. If we can win tomorrow night it'll seriously put pressure on Arsenal, and help us bounce back from Saturday. Can't help but feel Fergie needs to rotate a bit - we looked mighty tired over the weekend and will have only had 2 days proper rest.

Presuming Rafael is fit, that'll be a big help to our energy levels, and a midfield with Ando starting should spice things up a bit. And returning, fired up Rooney.

I'm kind of hoping Newcastle don't feel like they have much to play for.. ;)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Congratulations for Manchester united in winning the league!

well done lads. nice one

Plain obvious why fellow pros don't vote for him. He tries to con somebody every week so he has no chance of anybody voting for him. People are sick of the diving. Talented player but a piss poor excuse of man. Hate cheats. Period.

Well to be fair Nani is an ironman. Remember when he had a dislocated shoulder or something? He came back in under a week or something insane like that, cartwheels and everything. Maybe he's just tired of getting kicked all the time like Ronaldo was.

Doesn't explain how Gerrard, Rooney, Ronaldo, Drogba et al all used to get in it on a regular basis though does it?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Meh, as long as he does the business on the pitch for us and leads us to team honours, I'm sure it won't bother him missing out of individual honours. As gerd would say, they're worthless! ;)

I personally can't see another reason, as he has easily been the best player this season. Maybe it's not just the diving, but the petulance (not letting Carra apoligise for example) that is maybe more obvious to the players then us.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I'm sure I read that the players are asked to vote from January? That'd explain things like Nani not being included as well as Leighton Baines while Bale gets the award for ... what exactly?

It's a farcical award and it lost all credibility when Giggs got it last season.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Because people weren't as sick of the diving back then but now it's getting too much and people have had enough.
I hope Bale doesn't go down that route as he clearly tried it on v Real last week!
Fucking hate cheats. Bang out of order. Not nice to say but they deserve a kicking so no tears were shed from me when Nani got hurt the other week.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Alrighty, away to Newcastle, 13 points to go. We're clearly a bit knackered at the moment so it won't be smooth (never is) but gotta hope Fergie can rally the troops. No Scholes, no Fletcher and a dejected Carrick - bit worried bout the middle. Especially against Tiote, who is excellent.

Will be interesting that Ireland is going to play tonight. I've always rated him and he has a lot to prove to Newcastle supporters - and he might be lined up against Darren Gibson. So yeah.

Hoping to see Rafael, Fabio, Anderson, Nani and Hernandez all starting to freshen things up, alongside Rooney.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

It could happen but I only think it would if we need funds or other area's. Also replacing 20+ goals next season would be difficult.
