Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Ryan Giggs makes football look like such a simple game

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

GET IN! :DD

Hernandez, Park, Rooney, Vidic, Carrick and Giggs. were all brilliant.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Rooney is starting to get that swagger back...such a pity he'll be missing on Saturday. Then again, maybe that whole incident helped him get said swagger.

Giggs is a machine.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I think we can safely say Park has a much better first touch than you, ryan.

He's clearly been working on it while injured ;)

I've never said he's not useful in matches like last night, but there are still moments where I just don't think he's good enough to be a Man United wing-forward. Just my opinion.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He's like the Darren Fletcher of the wing position, he's good but no one knows why.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Park Ji Sung dosent have exceptional ball skills but what he has is energy...bags of it.He wasnt called '3 Lung Park' for nothing.Another trait that Park has is his tactical obedience. He simply will get the job done upon instructions.I bet his instructions were to disrupt chelsea's play from the middle and disrupt he did, using his energy to great effect. He just scores when he feels like it though. ;)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Ryan Giggs may just be the best thing ever invented. In all honestly he has a case at being called the greatest footballer ever as well, considering the talent he has, the consistency, the desire, the trophies/medals/accolades he has to show for it.

We were magnificent, it was an immensely satisfying performance. Their goal was a blip but we fought back straight away with the perfect response.

Carrick and Park were both excellent, the defence was very good and then you consider Rooney and Giggs, playing at the top of their game.

Rooney was very much like the original Wayne, running at people, constantly pinging balls around the park, shooting from distance whenever he likes, it was lovely to watch.

And then you've got Giggs. There is no possible fitting description for just what a player that man is. There will never be anyone like him ever again, he will go down in history as one of the best and fully deserves it.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

City Next, Hopefully Tevez being out is Karma's way of making the Rooney ban void.

Can't wait for Schalke either! German side in the semis and Raul who seems to always score against us :ANX:

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah there's a definite sense of Leverkusen 2001 about the semi.

I hope it's nothing like it but you can't help but draw comparisons.

German teams always get luck against us as well, or we just play shockingly bad against them.

Dortmund in 97, Bayern in 00, Stuttgart away in 03/04, Bayern last season are others to look at. Only 99 was positive, but then 99 was meant to be.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He needs to retire. Wasn't offering anything on the pitch either. And hasn't this season imo. He's like Fergie's little guilty pleasure, but he may turn into his Achilles' heal.

Credit to City, that was always going to be a tough match for them, mentally, but they were solid after the first 30 minutes.

Still, I'd be pretty embarrassed if I was their fans - they're celebrating like they've won the Champions League. Guys, £1bn is a lot of money to spend on getting through a domestic cup semi final. If they'd tried that hard they could be competing for the Europa League ffs.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

ffs Scholes, I don't wanna make anyone a scapegoat, but that seriously f'ed up our options.

The challenge will be rightly condemned, freaking idiot...

Also with Berbatov alone up front, Nani and Valencia really needed to do more to get forward and beyond their defence. Else, we should of just played Hernandez from the start.

seriously, he could break his leg with that..

Please, it wasn't nearly as bad as Carraghers. Both players raised their feet, but Scholes chose to follow through. It's a red card offense, but not a leg breaker by any stretch.

I'll once again reference the point that, as to my knowledge, Scholes has never actually injured anyone.

And the reference to the mod point is that some posters expect mods to be, I'm dunno, a little less melodramatic perhaps.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Not a leg breaker? Really?

What was Ferdinand doing after the whistle? Sounds like he made an idiot of himself?

Apparently Balotelli got in his face with the City badge, and Rio pushed him.

Was just a lil handbags, no punches thrown or anything.

Therefore I'm 100% confident of video evidence being submitted and the FA banning whoever they can from United.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

The whole game was a tactical mess-up from Fergie.
Starting Berba upfront on his own has never looked convincing in the past and was never going to in such a big game.
Leaving a defensive type winger in Park on and taking a real attacking threat in Valencia off when we're chasing a game and just when Berbatov gets some support upfront in Hernandez he is taken off.
I know its 'ifs' and 'buts' but Fergie should now know how his players are more comfortable in playing.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

First of all, the formation wasnt the problem. Rooney's out of the game. With Chicharito and Berba as the only real options up front, you cant have both playing at once and nothing on the bench (Owen hasnt played in ages). So 4-5-1/4-3-3 was the only option we had.
The problem with Sir Alex is that he plays players that he thinks he owes games to, and not players who people would consider to be the best tactical or technical option. Sir Alex's selection mentality is to always look towards the bigger picture rather than approach the next match like his last. Have you noticed how whenever a player is in the press talking about not being selected enough or considering their options, Sir Alex throws them straight into the starting line up for the next game?
Another more relevant example is if a player like Park has a little run of good games and we came up against a team that tactically required him to sit the match out, Sir Alex will still play him even if there are better tactical options.

Two major changes for me would've been Anderson and Fabio starting ahead of Park and O'Shea. With no Giggs and Rooney, Anderson was needed to push the ball forward and start off the attacking moves. And Fabio would've been up against David Silva, who isnt exactly a power house of any sort. Fabio's superior mobility would've been vital to keep up with him.

Sir Alex has always been at his best because of his man management, motivational skills, etc. But he's always been average as a tactician. And to be honest with you guys, with the level of competition domestically and in Europe rising, this needs to be sorted out.

Obviously we need a new keeper and a midfielder, but the next thing on my list would be a new number 2 to assist Sir Alex. I still believe things havent been right for us tactically since Carlos Queiroz left, which was the year we last won the Champion's League. There was just something special about our attacking movement that wasnt there even the year after when we still had Ronaldo, Tevez, etc but no Queiroz.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Speaking of Hernandez, I think Fergie is insane not to start him over Berbatov and Rooney now. I've said it before but he's a class player and easily the bargain of the season.
