Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Been a good season lads, that boy from Portugal left, Carlito left for City and with that we bought a good (unproven at the top level) player from Wigan.

It's been a season for "Growth" for us rather than transition as the side isn't that old and on the most part we've got good signs for the future which had question marks at the start of the season.

Rooney has elevated his game to were it needed to be, Nani has proven he's a very good player and showing flashes of brilliance (which will only become more consistent next season). Other than them two Valencia has proved to be a great signing with the likes of Fletcher, Vidic(when he was fit), Evra were top notch.

The likes of Macheda, Rafael and Gibson have had a season to further improve and will feature even more next year hopefully and the old guard of Scholes, Giggs and Neville have all shared good patches of form throughout the season.

Hopefully (if their still here) Berbatov, Anderson and Hargreaves can show their worth next season.

Overall next year if we bring in 1 or 2 players we can continue to challenge Chelsea and Arsenal.

:))

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Its all good. We've definately overachieved this season and Chelsea deserved the title.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I wouldn't say we have overachieved. I'd have said that if we'd have won the league and been in Madrid later this month but I'd say we did as expected.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Well we've done better than most people expected but I don't think we've overachieved. We've been unlucky at times and had a few refereeing decisions been correctly called in the matches against Chelsea we'd be champions now, that's how close it is.

Chelsea are worthy champions and fair play to them, everyone is saying they've been brilliant and we've been poor but it can't be both with only one point between us! We can take heart that despite having major injury problems in defence on top of losing Ronaldo, we still took it to the last day and I get the feeling SAF is gonna make a couple of big calls this summer and we'll come back really strong next year.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I dont mean in terms of silverware. I mean, we played better and got further in all the competitions than I had expected.

The Seasons Over!

Get your shopping list's out lads!

The back five our sorted no doubt with cover for all of them. (atleast for know VDS is fine)

Will be a interesting Summer, no doubt.

"You have to be aware of that and spot the moment when it is time to freshen up one or two players.

"It is not a desire to do it, but you need to do it because the demands and pressures on players can, over time, be quite exacting."

I think Carrick is written all over that, Possibly Berbatov and a more shock would be Rio.

We need to replace Scholes but if we sold Carrick we'd be left with Fletcher, Anderson, Scholes, Giggs, Hargreaves, Gibson.

We'd need a Defour, Banega or we might go for an advanced player like Silva but the following year you'd be left with 5 (Giggs and Scholes) which means we'd need another possibly if were looking at 3 in the middle.

(or we might just keep Carrick and not bring anyone in till next Summer which im not sure about).

"
If we can bring in two big-name players in it would give us a good chance of getting the League back if Chelsea do win it.

"If you look at the team in 1999 that won the Treble we had four forwards, all capable of scoring goals.

"Now there is me, (Dimitar) Berbatov and Michael Owen. There is Federico Macheda too, but if we can get one more top forward in it would give us the right balance.
"

Interesting comments from Wayne, I doubt theirs a chance we'll bring in another forward unless Berba's on the way out. (if we do) then we need someone of top quality but versatile enough (and happy to be) comfortable out wide in a front 3 and being able to partner Wayne in a 4-4-2.

Theirs a few out their such as Jovetic, Balotelli, and Suarez who can do that (and are happy outwide and not "wasted").

If we did that then we'd be happy chaps with our (4-4-2)

--------------------VDS-(Foster)-------------
----O'Shea/Rafael----Ferdinand----(Smalling)---Vidic--(Evans)---Evra--(Fabio)
Valencia-(Obertan)--Signing A (Scholes/Ando/Gibo/Giggs)-Fletcher (Hargo)--Nani-(Giggs/Park)
-----------------Rooney-(Owen/Macheda)--------Signing B-(Chicho)

and the 4-3-3

--------------------VDS-(Foster)-------------
----O'Shea/Rafael----Ferdinand----(Smalling)---Vidic--(Evans)---Evra--(Fabio)
--------Fletcher-(Hargo)----Signing A-(Scholes)--Anderson-(Giggs/Gibo)----
---Valencia/Nani-----Rooney-(Signing B/Macheda------Signing B-(Nani/Obertan)---

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Apparently Foster will sign for Birmingham in the coming days for £4m rising to £6m with addons. So that's one down, then I think Big Bad Wesley Brown could also be on the way out, he was dire this season and we need to reduce our headcount for the over 21 year olds and with Smalling signing and Evans proving he's more than capable of filling in we don't really need him unless we suffer another injury crisis like we had this season again.

I think we'll sign one of Modric, Milner, Hamsik, or Gourcuff (no CL), probably Milner for an inflated fee.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I hope it's not Milner. He's a bit like Fletcher imo - plenty of drive and determination but doesn't quite have the talent/technique to back it up. The two of them in the middle would starve us of creativity. (but do have good engines).

Sad to see Carrick go, really class player, if only he could sort his head out. But I agree. Think it'll be Carrick, Brown, Foster and Tosic out. Hopefully we can raise some decent cash for em.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

We won't sign Hamsik as he's a goalscoring midfielder and SAF has recently said Gibson can provide us that whilst happy to remain a squad player unless he really kicks on.

Gourcuff we haven't been linked with but would be :..., Milner would be a disappointment as he really isn't United quality IMO. Modric is a no-go since Spurs got the CL.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I've got a feeling Carrick will play a part for England at the World Cup now GazBaz is injured and do well and come back rejuvenated. Apart from this season he's been brilliant for us, so I think it'd be harsh to get rid of him although SAF does seem to have lost faith in him.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Why are so many of you saying we'll get rid of Carrick? He just needs a bit of consistancy cuz on his day, he's brilliant. He's one of those players where if he's having a great game, the team has a great game. Nani needed time and so does Carrick. Give him the Nani treatment and if he still doesnt improve, then get rid of him. Cuz for what we paid, he's not worth selling considering how much you'd get for him.
As for future signings, I look around at our attacking options upfront and see Rooney, Owen, Berba, Kiko, Diouf, Wellbeck, and now Hernandez (who according to wikipedia has scored 21 in 28 this season). Now when you got players of that quality, there's no point looking into buying better strikers when you arent scoring enough. I'd personally look into seeing what we could do to improve the service those guys are getting. I find it hard to believe that someone like Owen or Berba (minus this season's performances) would struggle to score if we had top quality service coming in. Maybe something like what Ronaldo used to proved before he became a forward. If we can invest money in someone like Silva, Gourcuff, etc who can play in that role behind our striker as our third midfielder (4-3-3), I'm sure the strikers we already have will start scoring a lot more.
I think our main priorty will have to be that position and a GK, and maybe a true left winger. Unless we're gonna get a David Villa or something, there's no need for a new striker.

As for sales, the only one I could think of was Brown but then I thought, Gary is nearing the end of his career and Brown would probably be the only backup for Rafael, so there's no need to sell Brown unless we have another right back.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

If we're gonna get someone like that then I wanna see Giovinco. I'm too used to seeing great skill and tricks thanks to Ronaldo and it would be nice if we got in another player who can do it. Plus I can imagine him and Rooney linking up well.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

What's with those new gossips about Evra ready to leave United? That in my opinion would be as big a blow as when we lost Ronaldo last year. He's an irreplaceable part of the squad and probably one the best left back I've ever seen, along with Roberto Carlos (I really liked this guy).

I'm hoping it's just bullshit. He really seemed to love United.

Oh and if we were to play fantasy football, I'd try to snatch Gourcuff from Bordeaux who won't be playing in the CL. He could do well behind our two strikers (in a role similar to Lampard at Chelsea).

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I don't know if he would be as effective as he is now in a deeper position. That's where he played at Milan and just ended up ignoring his defensive duties and offering limited support to the midfield.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I thought Evra loved United. Maybe another campaign by Real to start rumors to unsettle the player and buy him away. I agree that if he's gone, that'd be as big of a hit (if not bigger) as Ronaldo's departure. He was one of the best defenders for us for many seasons...one of the unsung heroes for sure!!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Forlan is class. It's a shame it never quite happened for him at United.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

His adjustment for that first goal was really top drawer. Great player, pity indeed.

I expected us to move quite quickly, pre world cup. Wonder if we'll do what we did a few years ago and make all 3 signings out of the blue one morning (Hargo, Nani, Ando)

That'd be nice. At the moment I have no idea who we're getting.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Were in May, I'd say early June we'll see what situation were in. Rumours about Mikel Arteta, think he's a good player personally but has been injured quite a bit in his career.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Milos Krasic seems to be mentioned quite a bit this week too... He was great against us in the CL.

Mind you, if we believed half of the rumours we'd have a squad of 70!
