Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Into the final week.
Good win today and signs of certain things, Nani is becoming a big player for us, Berbatov is a good player but I think he'll be sold.

Our defence has been fucked this year for large periods and our attack has been dependent on Rooney for large periods. I hope the former is a less of a problem for next year but we do lack a match winner with currently Rooney and Nani being the only candidates.

BTW did I hear a Viva Ronaldo a couple of times today? or am I hearing things. definitely was in that tune

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

If he was 5-10 years younger im sure he would persuade him back but he'll be long gone by the time Ronaldo decides to leave Real.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I dunno. It all depends on how well he or Madrid does in the future. If Madrid lose out on the title, and their next season was just as bad as this one, I get a feeling talk would start of him coming back.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Well, I had been all big on the 'keep Berba because someone that talented has to come good' bandwagon, but just saw these comments from a certain David Silva: "If it came calling, especially if it was a club like Manchester United, it would be very hard to resist.

"I am happy at Valencia but every player has his price and if they get an offer they think is good business anything is possible."

Not sure if Berba would directly fund it, but:

-------------VDS-------------
-Rafael--Rio---Vida--Evra----
--------Fletch-Hargo---------
---Valencia--Silva---Nani----
-----------Rooney------------

That's a pretty tantalising, balanced side there...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I dont really watch Valencia much. What kind of role does Silva play? The Anderson/Park role through the middle? Cuz that's what we need at the moment. Cuz when Rooney's the lone striker, we need another serious threat in the center and we dont have that anymore. About 5 years ago that would have been Scholes but that's one player I think we'll never replace. Scholes is more unique compared to Giggs, Keano, Gary, etc IMO.

Another thing worth discussing is that central midfield area. Right now we just have Carrick, Hargo and Fletcher. How much longer are we gonna stick with those three before some young reinforcements are brought in? At first I thought of Gibson but is he really the same kind of player?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Silva is a good player with massive potential, He plays the "1" behind David Villa in Valencia's "4-4-1-1" formation and isn't much known for his tracking back so I doubt he'd be good enough defensively in central midfield. He's a bit Berbatov like that he can go missing for a while and then pop up with some great bit of skill but he's very in and out of games.

He can play LW also (I think that's were he'll start for Spain in the WC?) and he'd be a younger version of the current Giggs drifting in.

EDIT

We need a GK and either a David Silva or Ozil who can play CAM and LW. Were sorted otherwise.

About the 1 signing, Eden Hazard.

:))

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I was half watching their match last night and although Silva scored, I thought Mata was much better, plus he'd probably be cheaper.

In other news, Rooney has come out and said he couldn't have scored as many this season without Valencia which is nice to hear and of course, he's right. Those 2 link up a lot and it's been one of the biggest positives of the season.

Also, we've taken a French/Algerian keeper on trial from Slavia Sofia. We were linked with him a few months ago he's meant to be pretty good (best keeper in the Bulgarian league) so would probably do for a backup keeper.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I don't see the need for a LW but saying that if we could get either a CAM whose versatile enough to play their or a CF who is versatile enough to play wide left in a 4-3-3 then their the best option.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

We need a LW cuz Nani and Valencia are both RWs. We dont have a true LW other than Giggs.
I know this sounds like a risk but what do people think of the idea of playing Nani behind Rooney? It sounds like something that could either work really well or go horribly wrong.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I don't think Nani has the size to play in the middle...Its a lot more physical in the middle than on the flanks and the way Nani plays, he's a lot better cutting in from the sides.

With that said, Silva would fit the Scholes position perfectly as that's where he's playing right now in Valencia...But he is sometimes a no-show, which is quite frustrating...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah, on hindsight I'd still prefer Berba in that role. Better stats than Silva this season, is a United player and offers a 'big man' presence on goal kicks.

I think I'm the last of the 'give Berba a chance' fanclub!

Glazer family reject £1.5bn offer for Manchester United from unidentified Arab investor. Full story to follow #MUFC

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

It was last year apparently.

Few journo's getting their stories mixed up on twitter by the looks of it.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Bugger, if they rejected that kind of sum, how are the Red Knights supposed to get away with a £1bn bid...?

Oh and if Tosic were given a chance, I'm sure he could show that he's a useful backup. Has a good brain on him that lad. Look out for him at the World Cup, have been very impressed when I've seen him both in our reserves and a few Cologne matches. Great set piece delivery too.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Tosic isn't a left winger though, he's not got the pace to run past people.

More like an Iniesta or someone who can be creative and nimble near the box.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He could potentially be a good player but I think he'll be sold, especially with the 25 squad cap (which were already over by 2).

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

That 25 person cap is a weird one. What happens with injuries? Surely there are points in the season when you can bring in players (January at the very least?) I can't work it out.

If we had to let go of 3 'first' teamers, I would (hope) it would be Wesley, Foster and, sadly, Tosic. So I see what you mean.

We're going to have a massive squad this year (off top of head: VDS, Foster, Tomas, Neville, Brown, Rafael, Fabio, Smalling, Evans, Vidic, Rio, Evra, O'Shea, Fletcher, Hargreaves, Carrick, Scholes, Giggs, Gibson, Cleverly, Anderson, Nani, Tosic, Park, Valencia, Obertan, Rooney, Diouf, Hernandez, Owen, Berbatov, Macheda, Welbeck.

That's 33 (30 minus the mentioned) and I've probably forgotten a few. Yipes.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

It's the same as the CL format so you register up to 25 players, anyone who is 21 or younger by 1st August doesn't need to be included and you can bring people in and take others out in January after the transfer window opens (think its 3 in, 3 out max in the CL).

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Is it safe to provide MUST with money?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Thanks :)

EDIT: Question, If the bid doesn't go through, what happens to my money?

I'm asking because I've never been with a campaign before. Don't know how it works.

Anyway, I've sent 'em some. Hope it all works and get the Glazers out.
