Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Anderson's being constantly dropped not just because of his poor performances but because he went to Brazil isnt he?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

It is a little disappointing because we all know how good Anderson can be.
Hope he sorts out himself and did what Nani came up with.
I honestly think we can beat them at the San Siro and then finish them off at OT.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

But I think I remember you going through a bad spell the last time you beat us as well. The only positive I can think of is that it was Kaka who ripped us apart last time and he's not here anymore.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Last time we beat you we had a mediocre season but the team had a good spine, and we were impressive in CL... something we lack this year. If we played poorly, we never lost by more than 1 goal and it was almost impossible to break us down - this was because of Ancelotti's tactics. The team now is very 'lightweight' and when we are at 'top form' this season, we still struggle win comfortably. Our form now is good, but against a team that has matured and has a strong tactical shape, we will look like a 2nd tier CL team.

We will have the likes of Bonera, Abate and Antonini - at the time they weren't even considered Milan level players 3 years ago - as starters.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

We're unbeaten away in the CL since losing 3-0 in Milan in 2007.

But I can see us losing tonight although still going through overall.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Not buying it Stef :DD Remember THIS season they beat Real 2-1 and drew 1-1 with them, shows they still have it in them on the big nights.

Will be interesting how Rio copes with Borriello/Huntelaar with so little football recently. Rafael V Dinho is a bit suspect as well :ANX:

Think we'll go with
-----------VDS------------
Rafael-Ferdinand-Evans-Evra
------Fletcher--Carrick--
-----------Scholes------
---Nani---Rooney---Park-

Heres the first leg from 07, Posted the 2nd in the Milan Thread as its more appropriate ;))

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Hope for a good game. There's always been fairplay between the sides.

But like I said, I feel Milan have gone downhill since 3 years ago where as United have improved.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

well I just heard Beckham is very likely to start. Borriello and Seedorf are out so Huntelaar will play.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Man Utd's Wayne Rooney, after being asked about Milan's dominance in the first half: "Well, some people just weren't doing their jobs."

Interesting, is he within his rights to say something like that? Is it a case of him getting bigger than his boots, especially with all the praise from Fergie lately? Or taking responsibility for the team and acting like a leader?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Nah, you're reading too much into it.

If you'd seen some of our defending today, you'd know exactly what he meant.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

But should a player say something like that about his own teammates to the press? I'm not sure, I can see why he should and why he shouldn't.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

The only thing I can fault in Rooney's play was that he was a little greedy a few times but you can't really hold that against someone who ended up scoring 2 on the night. Some of the passing in the first half was dreadful and he has every right to be commenting on it. If Milan were a little luckier, they would have killed us off.

Good result to bring back home, would have been a formality at 3-1 but Milan made it a little interesting again. It might even work in our favour cuz theres always the chance that we could get complacent at 3-1 in the second leg, but that last goal from Seedorf almost insures everyone that we'll be taking the second leg very seriously. The only real negative is the sending off. Carrick is usually at his best when we're at home.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah he's just hitting form last few weeks too so it's a bit of a shitty one. We'll either have to bring Anderson back in to the fold or go 4-4-2, because I can't see us playing Gibson in a game of that importance.

Nani was awful tonight, back to his best! Shame really, think the atmosphere and the situation got on top of him a bit, he looked overwhelmed a bit and panicked a lot, his decision making was dire.

Park was quality in that free role, they couldn't pick him up and he helped smother Pirlo when we were defending. With Fletch hanging out to the left and cutting in, it worked really well, especially for the 3rd goal.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

My personal opinion is they shouldn't as there's a chance it can have a detrimental effect on the team.

If it was Fergie, he'd probably try and take the attention off the team and blame the ref or something while dealing with them in private, which is the right way to do things.
And Nani.
Yep. And Evans getting a rollicking by Fergie just before half time was hilarious.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I haven't heard the interview but general consensus seems to be that he was talking about the ref, not one of our players and followed up the comment about people not doing their jobs with one about getting a yellow card?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Why do our players always shit themselves when we play Milan?

First half we were fucking terrible, especially in an attacking sense.

Second half I actually didn't think we were that much better, but Milan being the pensioners that they are got knackered and did shit all for the last half hour or so.

Good to see Rooney get off the mark in Europe and break his record for goals in a season, but he spent more time having a go at Nani than actually playing.

Guess it's understandable though cause Nani was terrible, as were our full-backs. Whoever thought playing Rafael against the master of all tricks Ronaldinho was a good idea was...well I can't call them an idiot because that person was Fergie, but still it was stupid. And it seems like Pato is another bit of kryptonite for Evra, luckily he had no end product tonight.

Still, we've got the second leg to look forward to, three away goals, and hopefully a good atmosphere. I just hope to god we go at them Roma 7-1 style instead of sitting back, because I've got horrible deja-vu from the last time we played them.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Cracking game tonight! Rooney was godlike almost.. However I do worry considering we won 3-2 and the return leg is at OT We could still lose, but we have to dominate the game from the start at OT!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Has anyone got any stats on how many freekicks and penalties Ronaldo scored for us during his best season?
Looking back on goal scoring records, Rooney's on form to top what Ronaldo had achieved with us and he hasnt even scored a freekick this season or taken even half the amount of penalties that Ronaldo used to score.
I think the fact that Ronaldo would score most of his goals on his own rather than because of good team work is what made him stand out more but Rooney is starting to become a real predator in the box now. Give it another year and at this rate he'll definately be in the top 3 best strikers in the world, if not the best.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I was wondering something similar about how many headers he's scored this season? Seems to be loads, he's definitely improved that part of his game. I might look into it! :D

Just seen the interview now http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11667_5954560,00.html

He's clearly talking about the referee, not Nani or anyone else.

Shreeves asks him if he was frustrated with the poor service, he says "No, probably more with.." then stops and then laughs as he's trying to think of a way to say what he was frustrated at and says "some people aren't doing their job right". Shreeves thinks he means Nani as that's what he's gone into the interview trying to get Rooney to admit by hinting at it from the start but then Wayne says about getting frustrated and getting a booking and learning from it. Sky have got the wrong end of the stick trying to make something out of nothing.

Yeah, his first header was quality. As for the second, I was so sure he was gonna bring the ball down and then blast it into the roof of the net but again he showed his confidence in his heading ability and headed that one in too. So many typical striker goals that I'm starting to miss his volleys and long rangers. :P I hope he starts taking more freekicks as well cuz he definately has enough talent to master that too if he put more emphasis on it.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

That win got that ugly monkey off our back, sort of.
We were poor in the first half.Gave away possession too many times.
Gave away needless freekicks where Milan could have taken advantage of.
Jonny Evans was very poor last night,he was all over the place, maybe it was just the biggest game of his career so far.
I thought Rafael did a decent job on Ronaldinho but he should be blamed for that goal Seedorf scored. Was in possession and decides to dribble instead of booting it away and that exposed his position.
Funny how we looked the business after the 3rd goal and then back to our worst after conceding that 2nd goal.
We need to be more composed and concentrate better at OT in 3 weeks time.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Strange game and what a game! When Ronaldinho's deflected goal went in and the way we defended for the next 15 minutes you thought it was going to end up like 07.

Got that fluke equalizer and we then woke up and pretty much controlled it. Great goals by Rooney and it changed from a nightmare into a walk in the park :SS. became so easy Rafael decided he wanted to play upfront and it cost us a goal and it suddenly became a frantic match.

Good result, Could have been anything though. Milan could have won 4-0 and then we probably looked set to win 4-1 in the end its 3-2.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Rooney's starting to resemble Alan Shearer with some of these headers!! :D

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

As soon as he masters the freekicks as well, Real Madrid are gonna start putting bids in for him.
