Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I try not to buy the wonderkids as it ruins it really when you know how good they'll be and you go on the SI website and every fucker's bought them all!

I try and play realistically and sign players who would be likely to sign for the club i'm playing as.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Same, I turn first window off and wait until January. Dunno about 10 I've only played the demo but it seems quite good.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

FM2010 is the most detailed version yet.Players can be asked to play multiple type of roles in their position.Eg. Owen could be told to play the Poacher role while Rooney plays the 'trequartista' role ala Francesco Totti.Infact, every position has different options in their roles. This is the best thing by far in FM2010.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Cool. Better check it out. And I thought FM09 was good enough.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

@ Jumbo = Drool. Can you imagine putting a striker that can actually make runs in front of Berbatov?

Of course we'd run into the age old debate about sticking Roon out wide...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Rooney would hate it, but if he can swap positions with Berbatov or Villa every so often ala Gerrard and him during England games. Then maybe he won't mind the left role and still able to go in and make runs...

anywayz, its all fantasy talk as I highly doubt they will come this transfer window.

its what we're crying out for tho...

we look like a team that's won the championship for 3 years on the trot....

think i read that most teams have a three year cycle..

so surely we need a couple of quality players to put pressure on the more comfortable members of a very successful squad...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah Ryan, Berba seems so frustrated at times at the lack of movement ahead of him, someone like Villa would be immense. Even for the time being if we played Owen as the spearhead and Berba behind him with Rooney and Valencia wide that could work. Would be worth trying in the home match against Besiktas for example.

That's one thing I've noticed about us, especially compared to Arsenal, we're so static and there's little movement around the ball carrier. They have 2 or 3 options for a pass every time and its working great guns for them.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Just saw the starting line-up on Man U tv:

VDS

neville - brown - evans - fabio

nani - scholes - fletcher - valencia

macheda - owen

Didn't expect Macheda to start a CL game tbh. Lets see how it goes..

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Would have liked Obertan to get a start and Welbeck rather than Macheda. Otherwise pretty much what I expected.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Y'know for once I didn't want Nani to come off.

For about five-ten minutes before he did, it looked like the penny had dropped, there was a nice little bit of juggling and he was keeping the ball nicely, even whipped a decent ball in which Valencia almost got to.

The defence has had a shocker so far (so has Fletcher quite annoyingly), sorta put paid to any hope they might look solid before the Chelsea game. I don't trust Rio and Vida, but I don't trust these either. We're gonna get battered.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

What a game. Sometimes a draw can be as entertaining as a victory. The last 20 minutes were unbelievable. United probably could have won but credits to CSK for scoring very difficult goals.

Oh, and Obertan was awesome. He only played for 10 minutes but he seemed less shy and nervous than last time. He actually took on players and delivered some good passes. He seems to have a great understanding with Evra as well.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Is there any team better at dramatic last 20 minutes than Manchester United??

Was great to watch, no emphasis on tactics at all, just pure all out attack and we get the draw that puts us through.

How unlucky was Macheda's header that hit the post!?

Akinfeev looks class, every time I've watched him he's been really good. Football Manager got that one right thats for sure, he's been a beast on that for years!

Jonny Evans chase and slide tackle on Krasic at the end was just awesome. He really is going to be world class in a few years.

Obertan was impressive when he came on but I thought he relied on his connection with Evra was a bit too much at times and was choosing to pass to him instead of a better placed teammate, but that's cool he's still finding his feet.

Chelsea drew as well so they'll be going into the match feeling similar to us.

Drogba is going to rip us a new one. He must've scored about 10 goals in his last 8 games or something.

Other than our front two and the keeper, we really dont know who our best XI is, do we?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

It's not such a bad thing, really. It's nice to have as many options as possible, especially when you try to compete on all front.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah that's the thing, we're still looking to win 4 competitions (league/FA/Carling/CL). On the other hand Wimbledon-on-Mersey have only got the FA Cup, a Europa League qualification place and Pepe's Golden Glove Award to aim for.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Games like this, where tactics and logic are just thrown out of the window, are always fun to watch.

Not sure how Fletch didn't get a penalty.

Neville was great.

Rooney, Evra and Obertan all made an impact from the bench.

Obertan is great at taking the ball forward with pace and looks like he has a good footballing brain.

Defence looked dodgy at times though. Chelsea game will be interesting.

Front two? I don't think we really know that either to be honest.

Anyways, I really enjoyed watching Obertan when he came on, it was like the complete opposite to the Blackburn game. I think the stepovers won't help with the Ronaldo comparisons/expectations but hell he looked good doing them.

I hit the fucking roof when the third goal went in and it was a semi-meaningless group game with a reserve team out. I love United.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Rooney and Berba. Why would you pick anything different?

Because I don't think Berba will ever show up enough to make me think he should be starting?

Or because Rooney and Berba just don't work?

Either play Rooney and Owen, or play Berba and Owen.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Typical United eh :)) Thought the crowd didn't help our performance. Were flat for about the first hour and then woke up.

Owen isn't a World Class finisher, he may get into great positions with his movement but in tight games he'd waste to many chances. Saying that he's a great option of the bench.

I thought Nani did well, Most the time im alone on that opinion but SAF seems to not think so. It must be what he's doing without the ball IMO, Because replacing him with Macheda to play on the left wing doesn't sound good.

Obertan looked much better than the weekend. I think along with more confidence and more match sharpness he'll look even better hopefully.

I thought Neville was pretty crap defensively but when it came to putting in good crosses into the box he was on his game. Was a real threat and was playing RW in the last 10.

Overall pretty average hour with a Manchester United Special finish.

About the weekend and Drogba tearing us a new one. Im pretty confident actually. I think hes the type of CF Vidic LOVES marking compared to a Torres.

Either play Rooney and Owen, or play Berba and Owen.

One of the major problems with this situation is that if you take the gamble of playing Owen with lets say Berba and we lose, the manager is guaranteed to get a lot of stick for sticking a talent as big as Rooney on the bench. Same if Berba was on the bench. If Rooney and Berba play and we lose, people just look at it like we played all our aces and still lost, meaning we just werent good enough. Then you start pointing the finger at the players and not the manager.

For either Rooney/Owen or Berba/Owen to work, they're gonna need a string of games together to build an understanding. And lets face it, Owen is never gonna get that many starts or playing time while either Rooney or Berba warms the bench. Owen still has a long way to go before being considered a starter.
Unless you're going through a period of games in (atleast close to) the best form of your career, like Fletcher and Park have been in recent times, Sir Alex will always go with his most talented XI. If Rooney was out for over 2 months, and was gonna return to 100% fitness 3 days before a game against Chelsea or Arsenal, you can bet your ass he's gonna play regardless of how much match practice he has. I reckon this is partly why Tevez didnt always play many games in his second season with us. He just wasnt considered better than either Rooney or Berba, even if his game to game form was sometimes better than Berba's.

I was happy for Owen to get on the scoresheet but I reckon he'll need another 2-3 goals in consecutive games before the manager has a problem with his selection up front.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Strange game last night. Some good things to come out of a pretty awful 75 minutes:
Obertan might not suck.
Macheda has way too much composure and nous for an 18 year old. If only he had the enthusiasm, effort and pace of an 18 year old to match it. He already plays like a 35 year old Italian striker!
Evans is going to be really good once he's got his positioning sorted.
Valencia is starting to look like he belongs on the pitch.
We're totally going to by Akinfeyev

And some bad things:
Why did we only realise we were 3-1 behind in the last 10 minutes?
Can Nani be any more frustrating?
Gary Neville isn't a very good defender anymore
Fabio was rubbish.

Still, 2 off the top and through to the knockouts, still in Carling. Not much else to ask for at start of November...
