Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

We're screwed. Just seen the slow mo of the Drogba/Evans incident. I expect nothing less than a 3 match ban for Evans, and the obligatory 4 match ban for Evra.

I just wish someone would force Dider Drogba to go to a hospital and watch someone suffer a real fit. Make him sit there the whole time, watching them struggle for their life. If I wasn't so obsessed with football, the fact that he plays could convince me to never watch it again. Sooner he breaks his knees the better.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

The Evans kick was honestly quite bad. not sure whether there was any intent though. but it sure looked bad..hmm ban for evra for which incident?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

TBH if it was anyone else I'd feel sorry for them after getting a double flying stud ninja kick, but the way Drugba over reacted as usual, just made me hope he'd landed on a loose live sprinkler wire the Muppet...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

evans move was indeed quite bad.... but his overall performance was still great.
it would be great if this kid would be sent somewhere on loan, to get the starting playtime experience he deserves..... he's just too promising to be a backup and waste his time like that.

I agree he does look class, definitely good enough for the premiership. I don't think he needs a loan, with Rio spending more time off the pitch than on it, I'm sure Evans will get at least 30/35 games this season. Which at his age should be fine for development.

My only concern is that he doesn't work that well with Vidic, as neither have true pace. It's the one thing United are really lacking in CBs at the moment with Rio out.

not just good enough for premiership... he's good enough to get a starter place in many serie a teams aswell. :))
u're right, rio's phisycal issues will give him the opportunity he deserves..... besides, last season too he had his fair share of playtime....but no matter how much playtime he'll get, he will still remain man utd's 3rd pick, while in a mid class club he could experience the psycological pressure that the starter role implies.
being the undebeated leader of a defensive line, having to deal with the responsability of being a club's 1st pick cb, implies a completely different kind of challenge, that is very important to face, for such a promising prospect.
however i can definitely understand why sir alex wouldn't get rid of him that easily ;)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

But you cant compare the pressure of a Chelsea/United tie at a mid table team. Unless he goes to a top European club, IMO he's better off here. And another thing is that if he ever did go to a top European club, what are the chances of him coming back?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Where in that article does it blame Wenger for the result last night Jonney?

Fact of the matter is, Fletch has a no nonsense approach to his game, and even if he wins the ball cleanly it still looks like a foul.

Aside from the CL Semi last season he was getting away with it, and now this year he gets stopped nearly every time. I do seem to remember Wenger claiming he was a thug and so on, so it's not a stretch to think it's playing on the referee's minds.

Also, anyone think Fergie's current relationship with the referees is having an effect on their decision making? At the very least we had an extra half a minute denied from us yesterday.

But apparently there has been PLENTY of games where you have had lots of stoppage times gone your way and the fact that fergie constantly bashing referee's doesn't help as you rightly said.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

That was one game.

The City game, where everyone kicked off and it was proven that the amount given was absolutely correct. Since then every single Premier League game seems to have a minimum of four minutes added time, so we've had no advantage whatsoever.

Still, they indicated a minimum of 5 minutes added time, and then Chelsea made a substitution which by the laws of the game is 30 seconds added,, yet the referee blew on 95.01 which is absolute bullshit.

Glad you've noticed him Ben. He really is outstanding, it's hard to believe he's only 21. I've been saying for a while just how good he is and how good he will be in the future so it's nice to see him getting some recognition from a non-United supporter. :)

He has had 3 spells on loan previously, twice at Sunderland when Roy Keane was there, once when they were in the Championship and won promotion and once when they were in the Premier League and also a spell at our feeder club Antwerp. Like was said, he will get games this season for various reasons and I'd be inclined to say on form he is our first choice CB now and I dont think there are many options for him now other than staying at United.

In England its not so much like Italy where clubs are more open to loaning their young players to potential rivals. We tend to either keep them in the reserves or loan them to a team in the lower leagues or a relegation fighting team in the Prem.

He was lucky not to get sent off yesterday and I'm pretty sure he meant it, you can tell from the close up replay, but Drogba's reputation and trademark over-reaction swayed the referees decision.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

If I had to guess Evans reacted impulsively to the fact that Drogba was just jumping into him, not going for the ball and so kicked out to stop him. The referee technically got the decision right, it was a foul on Evans, but also a red card for Evans' reaction to the foul, imo.

But fortunately the boy who cried *sshole was ignored. Loved the way Lampard wonders over, looks, see it's Drogba and just walks away.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Evra: "These last few days at United have been difficult. John O'Shea has promised me it will be hell at Croke Park. I have had the mickey taken out of me a lot. It's normal, as when England failed to make Euro 2008 I asked my English team-mates if they wanted a remote control to switch between games on TV. Now it's started once more. Darren Fletcher, who plays for Scotland, tells me we'll spend the summer together. The joking has to stop now. We have to qualify. It has become an obsession."

I love this guy.

I've seen that Berbatov was elected player of the month on the United website. Could it be he's finally getting some recognition? I wish he could have played against Chelsea. I missed my Berba-skills.

well it's kinda hard not to notice such a talented kid. every time i watched him playing (since his debut match against chelsea 2 years ago), he's never been anything less than great... of course i don't watch man utd every week, and sure i didn't watch all his matches with united.... nontheless either that's a hell of a coincidence or this guy has a great future.

on this concern, did u guys heard anything about the kjaer speculation? there are very serious rumours about a contact between the kid and sir alex himself (a dinner 2 days ago), and apparently sir alex sent a scout in palermo several times this season to follow him.

i'd find it hard to believe there's anything real behind theese rumours, as your starting cbs are everything but old, and even considering their injury issues, u still got decent backups in brown and o'shea, not to mention evans..... but usually italian press is very accurate in the "market speculation" department....

are there confirmations from england too?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Their are rumours but I think they depend on Rio's fitness. I think we'll see where we are in the Summer and re-evaluate the situation then.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

guys, could you post some hotels in manchester that are near old trafford or at least somewhere where you dont have to drive 2 hours to get to the stadium? I found holiday inn salford quays a few weeks ago but its fully booked now.

appreciate your help.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah there's minor rumours about Kjaer, I dont think many people know who he is here. I've only seen him once or twice but have heard he's got real potential. One newspaper had the story today about Sir Alex sitting next to him at that awards dinner.

Maybe we're worried about Vidic (or his wife) having his head turned by Barca and Rio's continuing injury problems? That's all I can think of.

I can see the stadium from work and I know there's a good few hotels within 10 or 15 minutes walk of it. I'll get back to you with some asap.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Just heard that Nani spilled the beans about Sir Alex Ferguson and how he deals with his players behind closed doors to a Portugese newspaper...4 words...HIS TIME IS UP.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

If what he said was true, then he's an idiot.

He obviously doesn't know that he needs to do MUCH more when he's on the pitch to justify a starting position.

For someone who's still young, he doesn't seem to have the hunger and determination that's required to succeed at this club.

It's what made Cristiano the player he is today.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

well it`s translated so go figure...I`m sure Nani was promise more ,but no one expect Giggs to step up so much. The fact he says Neville and Giggs get more hammering just means the expectation is high (No special treatments!).I`m sure most mancs read too much of it, I take it as the pressures of wearing a MUtd top during the dominance era .

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I think Nani has the talent but does he have the attitude?. People may say his time is up and all that but that's just bollocks. He'll be given time IMO (atleast the end of the season) but he's going to need to improve in a lot of area's.

Nani will get his chance soon. It's already been said that by Dec/Jan time Giggs will be moved back into the middle leaving Nani and Obertan to play for that position. Hopefully he'll prove it then or he'll just remain a Squad player. The only way I can see Nani leaving is if Obertan continues to outperform him and Ljajic comes and does the same.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Didn't Obertan play as a right winger before he joined us?

I'm sure whenever I saw him play in the past, he played on the right.

I think the fact Evra is also on the left side helps Obertan in terms of communication, which is probably one of the reasons he's been played there.

And where does Tosic fit in this?
