We were awful but like every other season we start like this. Were relying a lot on Rooney at the moment which is worrying. Its a waiting game lads just need to stay patient. Were in a transition period but still have a team capable of challenging for the league.

Have we ever hit the ground running at the start of the season? We always build momentum.
My personal excuse (other than matherto, damn you!!!) is that we've got enough injuries in the same department to blame the loss on. Once our defence is tight and up to speed, it'll give the rest of the team the freedom to do their thing. (maybe Berba will stop playing so deep too)
With the state of the defence right now, even Ronaldo wouldnt save us.

Fergies trust in veterans Giggs and Scholes is really starting to affect the team in a bad way now. The constant ball hogging and the 'i'll play where i want' attitude from Giggs today really affected the teams shape in a bad way. Id much rather see the likes of Gibson given more of a run.
Park didnt do too well today but playing the same team more or less consistently should help the players performance. For now the centre of midfield should only consist of Carrick and Fletcher barring injury or suspension. Theres no need to constantly change the team every game at this time of the season as theres only league matches.

I believe why Sir Alex sticks Giggs in the middle is because he believes Giggsy can control games.He certainly can but that will put another natural CM out of position and in last nite's game,Anderson.

If we continue playing like this,a flat 4 man midfield...I am pretty sure Sir Alex will have to realise this and chop and change in mid season or even sooner than that.

Next would be away again this time to Wigan.They looked impressive against Villa and we had big problems the last time we faced them.Another loss would certainly be a kick in the teeth because after Wigan...its Arsenal.

I cant remember who said this (whether it was Sir Alex or another player) but they said one of the reasons why Giggs "apparently" works well in CM is because opposing central players like CMs and CBs arent used to dealing with a winger like Giggs attacking them through the middle. It was something like that anyway.

I personally dont agree with the idea though. IMO he'd make a better left back than a central midfielder if you had to play him anywhere other than where he's currently playing.

I think its one of the midfielders who said that,Carrick or Fletcher in an interview.Personally I think Giggsy would excell in a free role position just behind the forwards...we would then have to play a 3 man midfield behind him...what do you think Rune?

If we had a player in that position, wouldnt you rather put Anderson there? I'd imagine that being more exciting to watch.
Plus that also puts us back into 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 which I thought we were trying to put behind us after the Ronaldo transfer.

Maybe, if he produced a bit of magic like a 40 yeard strike or a freekick of some sort. But if we're asking for a bit of luck, we dont need Ronaldo to provide it.

Fergie needs to pull his finger out. If he thinks Anderson can make it at United, he needs to play him. Same with Nani and to a lesser extent Berbatov.

Can we start a media campaign against Fergie the Rotator? Or does that just work with Rafa? I know we had 3 games in 6 days, but I really believe we need some consistency in our line up if we want to do well this year.

Anderson is a very good player, full of energy, quick, comftable on the ball.

Isnt his best position supposed to be behind the striker?
I remember him playing a game there near the end of last season where he looked quite dangerous.

Yeah, he used to be an AMF before we bought him. The new 'Ronaldinho' as always gets touted about.

Now he's just strangely wasted wherever. Great skill, good eye and real ambition for the killer pass - but inconsistent and cannot, CANNOT shoot.

Still, his right nut has more use to the team than Park against inferior opposition, making yesterday's substituion that little bit more baffling.

Think Anderson could much more of an Essien type player with his energy. Just don't see him being played as a supporting striker.

Yep agree with Abhi, Hes being converted into that box to box CM like Robson. I don't know why you lot are getting your knickers into a twist? Giggs has been immense for us in the middle.

Not always, he has the good odd games (usually when playing with Fletcher or Carrick) but last night he was useless. When we lost to Fulham last season he was dire too and against Liverpool the game before.

He wasn't that bad last night. I thought Park and Carrick were the main culprits with Anderson being a bit shit for 60 minutes. Fulham we had 10 men and Liverpool he made a mistake fair enough.

Theirs a reason he won the PFA Player of the Year and even if some may joke it being out of sympathy he was actually more consistent than ever last season and was one of our better performers.

Funny though that how quickly people jump on people's back whether its Giggs or saying SAF no longer cares.

Sack Fergie, Sell Giggs :))

No ones saying that hes suddenly a bad player. He can be very useful as a sub but not as a starter. Personally in my opinion i think one of the reasons wht the players you mentioned didnt perform as well as they can is because of the likes of Giggs who constantly wants the ball all the time and plays where the hell he wants.
He will always be my favourite player but at this moment in time neither he or Scholes should be starters.

Giggs shouldnt be a starter unless Carrick,Fletcher,Anderson and Hargreaves isnt.These 4 are our main CMs for this season.For the moment Scholes should be in place of Hargo in that quartet for obvious reasons.

Giggsy could be our impact player...like that pass he provided for Rooney to score at Wembley,thats pure artistry.I want Giggs to be our Bergkamp at this stage now.

Edit: Just read rumours that we are interested in Wes Sneijder and Miguel Veloso today.Any one of them would do but both would be class.

YG - Dont get me wrong I still love him,(and I never said sack Fergie) I just think in some ways he damages the shape of the team when he plays like he did on Wednesday and he is much better used as an impact sub. Some games (like the Liverpool one) he just gives the ball away over and over again and it's very frustrating to watch.

It's all well and good drifting if you're causing problems for the opposition and/or providing penetrative through balls (like the assist for Rooney in the CC :) ) but quite often he doesn't do that and we suffer as a team from it.

Fair enough I agree with what you lot are saying but he isn't a regular and is very much the meaning of a squad player. Its a squad game these days and you need players coming in and out doing the job. I think he's better with a Fletcher than someone as static as Carrick.

If anyones got their place cemented in that midfield then its Fletcher. He must start the majority of games.
Looking back at last season how many games did Ronaldo miss? Not many and look at what he achieved. This why im against this constant rotation every game. We need a settled team and pattern where players can understand each other.

I had a feeling there'd be an upset at the Turf, first game back in the big time for 33 years,I live quite close and have lots of Burnley mates and there's been a buzz about this game since the fixtures were announced.The atmosphere on the night was amazing, I've been to away grounds with 2 and 3 times the capacity of Turf Moor and never heard anything like that.We dominated but lacked that little something extra. How shite were we up front??? Rooney's shooting was woeful, it's like he's been told he needs to score more and seems to be shooting in desperation. The funny thing is at work and locally all the Rovers fans seemed a lot more pissed of at the result than we were.
anyhows Wigan away today, any team news?

Yeah Rooney's shooting was bad but he was still one of our better players that night which says something!

Team news, Vidic is expected to return and Valencia is due to start as he was only a sub on Wednesday. I'd imagine Fletcher will to as he missed out and he's key for us.

I dunno what's happening with Nani... he wasn't even on the bench against Burnley after taking another knock on his shoulder in the match against Brum, but he's not been listed as injured by any of the news outlets.

I expect a tight game, not many goals but hopefully we'll sneak it.

Vida and Gaz will be back for us.I'd imagine Sir Alex sticking Fletcher and Carrick back into centre midfield today with Nani and Valencia on the wings.Rooney and Berba upfront from the start.

It will be another tough away game for us.The critics have their guns lined up and aim at us for this one.

I will not hope for too much but a scrappy 1 goal victory for us would suffice.
