Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I know we will have the cash if Gigi Buffon is available at the end of next season.

Mate, Buffon will end his career at Juve, he has stated that numerous times already.
We rejected bids in the area of EUR 90 mill, I doubt you lot will top that.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I'd take Neuer over Buffon anyway. Buffon was the world's best, Neuer is becoming one of hte worlds best, and has many, many years ahead of him. If he wants to come of course.

I think Foster will get the nod at least until January.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I would not write off Buffon so quickly Ryan, he's just 31 so still some years in front of him...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

In theory, Buffon still has 5-6 years left in him atleast so he's worth every penny. But yeah, like you said, he'll never leave. If he did, he would have been at Real Madrid years ago.

As for Foster, I dont really know what we should do with him. So far he hasnt been consistant enough to even call himself a top 5 Premiership keeper but on the other hand, we know what he's capable of and still has a long way to go before he reaches his peak.
Its a question of whether we can afford to patiently wait during his development at the risk of letting in goals. Cuz as of right now, I'd go with Kuszczak.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I know keepers last longer than most, and EVDS did well for us despite being bought even older, but I dunno, personally I'd just love to get someone that would be around and grow with the team, whose core is still very young.

And I'm not saying Buffon will fade, I'm sure he'll remain top stuff for at least 4 more years, just that I'd rather we looked elsewhere. Nothing against Gigi (legend!)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Just had a look at our squad on Sky Sports and we apparently have 5 keepers in our squad.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

If we win anything this year it'll be the league, but I don't think we're strong enough to challenge in Europe this time around.

Need players like Valencia, Nani and Anderson to develop just a little more for that to happen. Maybe in a couple of years we'll be back to the top again, but I'd say we'll go out in the quarters of the CL.

About the keepers, I thought Buffon was a year or two younger than VDS? I'd want something more long term and Neuer would be excellent, but I reckon he'll stay in Germany.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I think we'll miss Ronaldo's "X" factor in Europe definitely but saying that were still more than good enough to go all the way, Unlikely? Yes but were still up their with Barcelona, Chelsea and 'Pool.

About us getting overrun in midfield? Well our midfield hasn't changed but against the top sides in Europe we'll play 4-3-3/4-5-1. The same system which has got us to 2 consecutive finals. I think in Europe Valencia will replace Rooney and Rooney will Replace Ronaldo. Either that or Rooney stays where he is and Berbatov goes uptop.

----Fletcher--Carrick------
Park------Anderson-----Valencia
---------Roooney--------------

or Rooney stays where he was and Berbatov takes the CF role.

About Goalkeepers well I think we'll have enough time to judge Foster in the coming weeks. Can be a big risk spending 25M+ on a young goalkeeper who may not turn out to be able to handle the pressure of a big club.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Today's starting line-up:

------------------Foster---------------
----------------------------------------
-
Fabio-----O'Shea----Evans----Evra--
----------------------------------------

-Valencia--Fletcher---Scholes---Nani--
----------------------------------------
-----------Berbatov---Rooney--

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Well it's been frustrating really, we've been playing needless 1-2 passes in and around the box, instead of just shooting, but at least we've got the goal so we've probably won.

I hope we come out all guns blazing in the second half and it ends 5-0 or something though.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I hope it ends 3-0 and a home win for my predicts :D

Oh, Rooney's no Shola Ameobi.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I'm not impressed at the way we are playing to be honest.Yes we have control but we are lacking that edge needed in crucial last thirds of the pitch. On with the second half now with Giggsy on for Nanny.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

We looked far too rusty but still should have won by more.

I'm surprised Berba didn't get a penalty, was a clear stamp on his foot.

And Owen missed a sitter! :P

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

We were dissapointing, no pace in our attack whatsoever.

Nani and Valencia didn't go past anyone when they had the ball, I think Fabio was the only one who successfully took someone on.

Rooney was great though which is a plus, he looks sharp and reacted very quickly for his goal.

How the bloody hell Owen missed that chance though is beyond me, you'dve put your house on him scoring and now you'd be homeless.

I hope it's not gonna be a Forlan situation and he doesn't score for ages, cause that monkey on his back will just get heavier and heavier.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I didnt think we were that bad, they had 8 men behind the ball most of the time sometimes 9 and it's not easy to break teams down when they play like that (ask Rafa ;))) . We dominated the game and it was just a case of not making enough clear cut chances. Rooney had a couple of close chances, Berba had one headed off the line, there was Owen's chance at the end and Nani had one well saved so if they'd have gone in we'd be talking about 3 4 or 5-0 which is a different story altogether.

Also we kept a clean sheet with only one out of our first choice defence and keeper available so that's a positive (worrying to see Evans go off too).

Remember, the only reason Liverpool didn't win the league last season was because The Greatest Strike Partnership In The World (Ever!)™ were often injured so we've got a ready made excuse if we don't win it as The Greatest Central Defensive Partnership In The World never seem to play anymore, let alone our first choice right back (who is that now? :P)

Owen scored in preseason so I hope it won't play on his mind too much. Also he's only had one chance in the last two games so it's not like it's been months without scoring and loads of missed chances, he'll be reet.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Good result, but otherwise very rusty today. Berbatov and Rooney linked well though, Wayne was carrying the attack though which is slightly worrying, Was awesome all game. With Ronaldo gone we need to shoot more often, out of 60% shots per game would probably come from him.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Roon looks up for it, and I thought Berbatov looked decent too. The biggest area we're going to struggle in is actually getting the Bulgarian involved. He's very useful with and around the ball, but our midfield didn't give him a sniff in the second half. And he quite visibly stops trying when no one passes to him.

Thought we did well to win despite havign played Scholes for the 90. I love you ginger ninja, but please please please only come on as an impact sub.

I thought that too. He looked good on the ball but we didnt know how to use him. To be honest with you, I thought the Owen/Rooney partnership looked more dangerous when he came on cuz Owen's always looking to get into scoring positions (even if his finishing has been dreadful in the last couple of games). Some might give him stick for missing that chance in the dying minutes of the game but I was more pleased with the fact that he got himself in that scoring position cuz the last person who was able to do that for us was Saha. If Owen gets more minutes on the pitch with Rooney or Berba around him, he's definately gonna get more chances. And I have a feeling if he scores one of them, he's not gonna stop scoring.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

More injury woes for us...Jonny Evans will be out with the same ankle problem he has been having for quite some time now.Rio Ferdinand will also be out for at least 3 games with a thigh muscle injury.

Slightly better news...Vida is back training and will be back at the weekend for Wigan.Gaz Neville has resumed training but our hopes are not pinned on him anymore.

Wes Brown, who just recently came back fit will have to start alongside Jonny O'Shea in the middle against Burnley in midweek.

We are Woundchester United now it seems...damn it.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yep, I think the defence should be fine for Wednesday.
Fabio--O'Shea-Brown--Evra will be fine. Just praying Vidic and Rio make it in time for Arsenal or at least one of them with Evans will be fine. Our squad needs a bit of patience to be honest. We have tones of young lads that need their chance to improve so we're going to have to stick with it.

Rooney was carrying most of the attack on Sunday which isn't good news if he gets injured or has a off day. Berbatov did well though But needs to shoot more often when given room to.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Berbatov simply doesn't play as a forward, even when he's playing further up the pitch.

He never looks like he's gonna shoot.

I know! Just wished he would be a bit more greedy and try shooting more.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Thing is when he's carrying the ball forward looking to make a killer pass or play a one two, everyone backs off and stands still instead of moving and he ends up turning round and rolling it back to one of the midfielders and the attack dies. It looks like its his fault (everyone says he slows us down) but if there's noone on his wavelength making runs then what's he meant to do?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Agreed, He's got a fantastic football brain and along with Wayne will create something special. Other than Roon theirs not many on the same wavelength as him. I think thats the reason he's a bit one dimensional at the moment since he hasn't scared defenders to pressure him from the off since he doesn't shoot from range. If he did he would probably attract more defenders making it easier to play the killer ball.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I think it might be one of those things where the rest of the team need to believe in Berba a little more. Its like with Ronaldo and even Cantona back in the day, whenever they got on the ball, everyone around him knew what he was capable of so they'd make the right attacking runs and get into positions where he can feed passes to. I dont think some players realise that Berba can actually assist you a lot better than they think he can.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Quotes from Vida's agent on Goal.com (I know) saying he wants to move to Barca. That would be the same agent that said a month ago that 'NO no no no no' there is no transfer being discussed.

If we lost Tevez, Ronaldo and Vidic in the same offseason and still finished in the top 4, surely Fergie would deserve credit :(
